Shawn and I raced out back, but he won

thanks for the pic pipe. BTW, you can still ride those ramps huh?
bmx-bandit
Yeah, I never really stopped. That park was sweet. I was very stoked, to be riding there. I surprised, the GT didn't hit a few ramps.
B. Apold
I was saving myself for the no foot touch race. I was robb'd.... heeeheee

Not sure if you noticed but I have indoor stadium tyres on the GT and I keep the pressure really low so they won't crack from to much pressure/sitting around. One ramp with those and I'd rim out REAL bad.

All is well here in Rogers for my family, how ever there are a lot of others that are not doing so well. There were close to 60 houses completely demolished from 100 mph winds and what looks like bouncing tornado's. Please keep these family's in your prayers!

Mike Peterson pulled off another AWESOME event here in Minnesota. I was honered to attend and rub elbows with so many hard core enthusiasts, MN is truly saturated with major BMX history. We BBQ'd, rode ramps, shoveled BS, had a bunnyhop contest, had a no foot down contest, shoveled more BS, had a raffle, voted on bike, watched giant movies on the wall, rocked to da music, had an awesome raffle and yet still had more BS to sling. I took 60+ pics which I will link a few here, click the link at the end for all photo's! Let's enjoy...

looks like you boys had fun
B. Apold
We did.

That storm was a heavy hitter, those families have been in our thoughts all day.

Look at little Isabella, she is CRASHED. I have had a great time with her today, just chilling and hanging with the fam. Sheri had a great time at the event!

We're just scratching the surface of BMX in MN people. The BBQ could not have been what it was without the people that made and make the scene strong!!!

Thanks everybody! Send any pics you want posted to mikkopeters @ yahoo.com and they'll be up on minnesotafaction.com!!!!

little isabella sure is a cutie mike
mikkopeters
Thanks mom, she is a little angel!

I wish my ramp pics had turned out better, here's a nice shot King of Pipeline (Jerry)

mikkopeters
That pic was taken after KOP drank a couple Full Throttles. He claimed he was going to try to go "at least a million miles an hour" when Pete snapped the shutter.
bmx-bandit
Wow that pic of me right there is amazing. Even bunnyhopping a foot is almost too much for me, as you can see. Shezz,, I can't believe that face i'm making..

I want to say how much I enjoyed the whole day ! I was not planning on attending untill 10:00 that morning. My wife thought I should check it out .
And boy was I stoked that I did !!!
It was so rad to see other older guys who have as much passion about this stuff as I do. Thanks Mikko for putting on this event I can hardly wait for the next one .

Too bad about jsaw closing. I have a good relationship with the owners of Showcase skatepark in Rogers and that place would be off the hook for next yaer . It is The BEST park in my opinion. They got a foam pit and many ramps including a half pipe !
We should check into that , I can asist if ya want.

If you choose an outdoor venue next year I am willing to bring my portable show ramp . Its 5ft tall 8ft wide and killer!

thanks again everyone ,,, I had a BLAST !!!

I also had a wonderful time. That venue turned out to be perfect. So now i'm happy it was supposed to rain, LOL.. Everyone I met there was very cool. Just a great day, thanks for doing this Mike. And of course, Paul, the man behind the bunnyhop comp, always, made do with that he could. It was a good time.

All I have to say is, "Word!"
Paul Springer
Hey Rich,

I had no idea we were amongst a star. Great website, I was extremely impressed with your flatland riding, truly amazing. Showcase here in Rogers would be an awesome place to hold an event, I totally agree. It was great meeting you and I look forward to seeing more of your mad skillz. Great website, everyone needs to check it out, quite a resume!

Hey Jerry, did someone put a tack on your seat?
suntour
There are A LOT of people that do or have done the shows with me over the years if it was'nt for the talented pool of riders that have came from Minnesota, none of what I have had the pleasure of doing would of taken place!
The credit must be given to Minnesota and the riders here!!! CHEERS !
B. Apold
WOW! that site is cool. Ya, the riding you trick guys do is amazing.
bmxmom
i love that chef paul rode the ramp with his apron on
mikkopeters
Paul was rocking the grill! When I saw him riding with the apron on I busted up laughing... classic. A tradition is born.
Thanks again Paul!!!!
DitchWeed
Mikko, the day was killer...Im already looking forward to 2007's. Although...I havent been able to sleep for a week due to ingesting copious amounts of FULL THROTTLE!!!
bmx-bandit
It was great to have some flatland riders on hand. The rubber ride, still brings the crowd to they're feet.
mikkopeters
Suntour and Steine (sp) were both cool guys that tear it up! It was cool to tap my wife on the shoulder in time for her to catch Suntour riding a no footed wheelie into the bike area.
2007 is going to be dialed in! Already working on it!!!

STRIKE, if you leave early next year, Ditch and I are putting the hurt on you. Fer sher.

Kickturns will be back in effect too plus a few other games, footdown was so rad!!!!
DitchWeed
Yeah STRIKE left WAYYY too early, I know ya had to work dude, but no camera or even a bike?! Whats up with that?

Footdown was way rad!!!

Mikko, Ive already been working on the local shops down here for free prize swag for the 2007 BBQ. They've all been receptive, too!!! Already got some vintage giveaway stuff possibly lined up!!!

2007 Black and Blue BBQ III - Food, Folks, and Freecoasters...LOL
DitchWeed
And by the way Mikko...If I didnt say it at the BBQ, THANK YOU for putting this on!!!

And I just noticed, Im at 200 posts...only appropriate that it be on this thread!!!

Next year is not going to get here fast enough.
mikkopeters
Ditch, I knew you were a cool f'er when I met you.

PaulyMN and I are devising a happy hour (evening) w/ video somewhere before the holidays. It would be casual, nothing too intense but cool. Drink some beers, have some pizza, yell at the screen...
mikkopeters
Congrats on the 200 posts. 1000 took me 4.5 years.

I know Rick Kast and I were almost in shock when a friend of ours that we both haven't seen in about 20 years showed up at the event.

Alot of great stories and memories were shared..

Alot of great stories and memories were shared.. Mike Conway of the Rochester racing scene was there.
DitchWeed
Mikko, Id totally be down for a happy hour/vintage vid-fest....Ive got some OS Roch vids and the first KOV in Le Seuer (rafter-plants anyone?) lying around somewhere.

By the way...how about a scooter class next year? I have a couple Vintage ones Ive been eyeing in my neighborhood.

Also, your Ratt bike's gonna have competition next year...if mine doesnt disintegrate by then, that is.....
STRIKE
Let's see some pics of the award winning bikes! I wasn't there so I need to know who won what.

Yo fellas, I am going to have the site updated like super fast, but until then:

Best 70's: Paul "Retro BMX's Schwinn Scrambler It's the silver bike on the right for you non Schwinn guys out there. Nice win Paul!!!

Best 80's:
Jeff Tollefsons (RL) bad *** Rockford build, Jason Jenson's Torker. That's Rad Brad Apolds noggin about the numberplate. Rock on, BA.

Best Cruiser: Jay Wendt's GT Cruiser. This guy pulled up an HOUR before voting closed and walked out with an award. Sick.

Best Rat Byke: Mike (mikkopeters) Peterson. This, my friends, is the future of BMX. That's my bike Peg right behind "the future of BMX". I love Peg, she loves me.

Best Freestyle: King of the Airline's Haro Retro

For those of you wondering what the awards looked like, this is one of them. Bad to the frigging bone. Each one has been sized 1/4 of an inch smaller (so they wouldn't be mistaken for the real deal by someone on ebay) than the original Haro Flo and these are made of steel.

The awards were the most fun, I had a good time handing them out. Thanks to Carolyn (JT's wife) for helping out!!!

*All pics by Paul "karate kid" Springer.
Ted Carl
Ahhh...Dan-yo-san!....
mikkopeters
TC- sorry I offered the Azusa up for a spin and then promptly forgot to pump the tires up to regulation pressure...
mikkopeters
And there were some other kick arse awards offered up for the highest bunnyhop (38.5 inches) and footdown contests. These were offered up by WDS:
bmx-bandit
It was great also to see freestyle legend Krt Schmidt make it out. He even brought the bike and rode the park for awhile. If only all those new school guys knew who he was, they would drop they're bikes and bow down in respect. This dude was one of the best in the 90's.....

B. Apold
Pauli, nice shot of me (Torker). LOL! I was doing something when you took that. heeehee, probably drool'n over the Jensen bike. BTW, what was Jason Jenson thinking when he ran that back tire? Talk about a square brick.
Ohhh, how bout that front black Comp II ? probably one of THE hardest to find parts out there.

Ya, the minute I saw Jay with 24" I knew he'd raise some eye browes. Jay also has an 82-83 20" like mine that he swaps the parts from the 24" on to that. Makes my bike look like a rat bike. LOL!
Ted Carl
Funny how one letter makes all the difference between Haro, and Haru, on this site....

Heres another avitar for you there Haru......

Actually, I like em both....
B. Apold
Ted, make an Avatar with Chris Farley and Patrick Swasey (sp?) episode. LOL!
bmx-bandit
I was very stoked on winning best freestyle bike...
B. Apold
If you would finish that Tahoe you might have one of the coolest 20" bikes too. thats real cool!
mikkopeters
You could enter the Tahoe in the Rat Byke class.
Brad, your GT was the she-it. There were some cool bikes there- like the TC Schwinn collection- but that thing was rad, when you were riding in the footdown pit I thought you may have lost your way or your mind. Har har...

Who knows of a bar or restauraunt in the south metro that would be willing to accomodate a few BMXers, a screen and projector? Or who has a big heated garage?

B. Apold
Mikko, how bout TGIF's? They support OS bmx bikes on the wall. har-har

Getting back to my bike (GT). Its a bmx bike, and should be riden, which is probably why I haven't gone the extra mile in trick'n it out. TC's bikes are the bomb and are true show bikes. Those should be not riden ( to a point) at least not in the foot race. heehee . My bike needs to be re-chromed and it needs decent rims and hubs, but other than that its okay. Once I find some Hutch pro bars ( cough-cough) I'll be happy-ier.
