Just trying to confirm if my TA is pre or post "Made in USA"

serial is K01074

from what I have read here it is a Japanese made one but it seems to be a little unclear as to whether it is pre USA

thanks

Wow, so was his early 1983? Or 1982? Does anyone know how long they made T/A's in Japan? I have a US made T/A with 9/83 on the BB, so I'm guessing the Japanese ones had to be before this?

my 83 is number 0006821

I guess my other one is early 83 Japanese and is build number 1074

I got mine in 85 and the serial # began with K. It went left to right on the BB where some of the older ones in town read front to back, and did not have a K. Also mine has SKYWAY stamped next to the serial #, where the older ones I saw did not.

The only reason I remember this, is because mine got stolen when I was a kid, and there were only 3 Skyway TA in my whole town. You would bet I checked the other two every time I saw them. I was 8 years old in 1985.

Not sure if this helps or confuses.

Great photo Justin...One happy kid!!

OK now that is confusing.

This might make it clearer. I figure mine is pre USA because:

a. the serial is Ko1o74
b. no USA stamp
c. the skyway stamp is the early Tuff II Gen 1 style.

I'll post pics later.

here is the comparison.

Mine looks like the one on top that you have labeled japanese. Just because it was bought new in 85 does not mean it had not been sitting at the bike shop for a few years.

My pit frame was a japanese frame also. One of the ways you can tell the difference is you will notice the seat mast was about 1/2'' shorter. I also have my old ride from back in the day. It is US made and serial 000062 see how much longer the seat mast is.
