I've got a couple acres and I'm thinking about building a practice track. Last year I bought a heavy-duty pnuematic 2-man gate with lights & voice. If anyone's done something similar, can you share some suggestions or pics?

No but sure sounds like fun.....

To ad a realistic feel your practice track you should have some drama. You could probably find all you need in the racing forum.

In all seriousness, this thread may work out better in racing.

In all jocularity, the first thing you'll need is to find someone who's cheating but is able to get away with it because they're buddies with someone else or something.

Then get your track sanctioned. Hilarity ahoy!

JOCULARITY?

Did someone say drama? I could jack this thread all up if it was in racing.

Jocularity: Look it up!

How many of these do you want to see? I've got lots of them.

4-man gate, Steve Spencer built.

I want to see more of Franze getting waxed by Bernie U!

old-school bikes only on an old-school track. Drama enough?

I was actually just hoping for some tech tips like moving the earth, forming the jumps, tamping it down, keeping it rut-free, maaayyybe spraying some glue, etc. Sounds like basic stuff, but if it was easy everyone would go out and whip up their own track.

A 4-man gate would be cool though.

Wow I've got a golf course in my backyard but I'd trade it in a minute for that!

John, go pose this question in the racing section - you'll get a lot more hits from people who actually ride their bikes!!! (I kid, I kid). But serious, you should ask over there.

Dirt: 40 - 60 percent clay, low sand. Lips depend on how fast you're planning on hitting them, where faster = less lippy. You'll never have enough dirt, and your turns will seem to eat dirt during the construction phase.

For a two-man track you could probably build with a skid-steer (a Bobcat) but the more earth you can move, the faster and easier it'll all go.

Roll with bigger = better. A roller if you can afford to rent one, a vehicle if you can't.

Coating the track, which I assume you mean by glue, is way past basic. A coat of that stuff is good for about eight months; follow manufacturers recomendations.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted it. Thanks

Thanks, Elvis.
