Full Version: Question about a Hutch Hollywood on ebay

I was looking at the pictures of this web page and I have a question. Aren't the rear stays supposed to be a little bit below the top tube. This looks to me like a pro racer that has been painted and re stickered. I am not trying to start anything. I have bought something from this guy before and it was great. I was just wondering.

I have seen people paint pro racers and call them Hollywoods before. I know the geometry is not the same on the bikes but that would be hard to tell by the pictures.

I don't know much about Hutch frames but the two frames pictured are definatly different models. There is a great Hutch website from one of the members here that can help you. I will try to find the link and post it here, if someone doesnt do it before I find it.

OK. Heres the scoop. I have no idea.LOL.

Anyway. Shortly after Production of the Hollywood Hutch changed the geometry of the pro racer to that of the Hollywood. So there for all pro racer Made after the Hollywood are Hollywood's. But not all Pro racer's are Hollywood's and It doesn't make a Hollywood a Pro Racer. Confused??? I was when I first heard it.LOL

the seatstay positions were just production run changes.

when miranda joined hutch he had them tweak the geometry of the pro racer a bit to his liking. this design became both the hollywood and the "new" pro racer.

if it was originally purple/pink/baby blue, it was a hollywood. all the other colors were badged as pro racers. color was the only difference during that era.

all the previous versions of the pro racer used different geometries, so those were not the same as a hollywood.

It is confusing. But it's come up on VBMX before. Some Hollywoods had the alternate seatstay location in regards to the top tube, others---later?---did not. Making it hard to determine the authenticity of that particular style frame.

Even worse, serials don't mean squat!

I was bidding on it (Outbid)

However, I don't think I will bid again, I am pretty certain this is NOT a NOS frameset. First off the decals are the wrong colors in certain spots, also the decals on it are not in the right spots. Finally it is missing certain decals like the NORA decal. It definetly at least has an aftermarket decal set.

Your thoughts????

I've seen at least 3 or 4 NOS Hutch frames of different sizes that had decal misplacement or screwups. My theory was that they may have gotten put on the back shelves at the bike shops because of those imperfections, thus saving them to be NOS. I recall a LiL Holeshot on eBay last year with an upside-down downtube decal. So I wouldn't judge a frame only by its decals.

I don't know enough about the frame to say anything. I will say that I bought both a headset lock and a seatpost clamp from him and both showed up NOS as stated. He has a bunch of Hutch stuff all the time.

thanks for all the replies. As always tons of knowledge on this site.

I have a NOS blue Hollywood and the decals are all different. You are correct, I probably shouldn't judge by decals, but something looks weird, beautiful frameset, don't get me wrong. Also I am not implying anything about or towards the seller, I see this getting up there in the dollars and I hope we figure this out before auction ends...

He has negative feedback in the VBMX section for calling things NOS. And has the same type of feedback on his ebay acct. . I think his reputation is the tell tale on being new.

I just looked at the listing again and realized who is selling it. I have talked to him in person, and in fact, he a very cool guy. However, I raised the question back in March about the authenticity of the NOS 2n1's that he was listing.

I mean no disrespect to him, but anytime there is a high volume of NOS Hutch parts to hit the market in all colors in sizes, it definitely raises my suspiscion...even if someone tells me that they were able to buy a load of NOS goods from a former part-owner of Hutch inventory, or whatever the story was.
