So I take the daughter to the local park early Sunday morning....

She is on the big playscape with two other youngsters. The father of the kids approaches me and says, "Cool shirt. Are you a member of that website?" (I had a t-shirt on from OS). We start to talk and we realize that we raced in southeast Michigan during the same years (him: 80-86...me: 80-84). He tells me that he still has a couple of his old bikes. Asks me if I have ever heard of RRS. I say, "Oh yea! Great bikes!". He goes on to tell me that he rode for TrackMaster (makers of RRS bikes) in the early 1980's. He has a rare (1-of-3) TrackMaster 24" Cruiser.

"how cool! Got any pics?". The pictures he sent me are below. Check out the wild stuff!

    [*]RRS-style forks AND frame dropouts!
[*]SQUARE seat mast and post!
    [*]Ovalized tubing
[*]One of those wacky Eccentric Bottom Brackets
    [/list]
This thing is just too cool. Check out his pics and be sure to read his comments below (minus his name unless he wants it known). He is a member at VBMX, but mainly lurks. I will make him aware of this thread and maybe he will chime in with more history.

    Comments from the owner:
I'm about 95 percent sure this frame was built late in 82. It was orginally Wally Borcyczka'a bike. Richard O'Brien got the second one, and I was supposed to get the third and last one built. It was supposed to be delivered for Christmas but never showed up.

They did make a 20 inch version as well. This frame does not have a serial #. The only stickers it had was the Trackmaster diamond on the head tube and "trackmaster" in separte letters on the sides of the post. I don't remember this having a marketing name! My first 20 inch trackmaster was a "revenger" which was a Robinson with modified trackmaster decals. I've seen one just like it on vintagebmx's site. My last trackmaster 20 was a another looptail without gussets and braceing behind the bottom bracket. My dad had the head tube angle designed with a wicked angle. Iy steered so sharp it was almost dangerous! The funny thing is these bikes never sold well on their own even though they made frames for so many other companies.

BITD other riders used to haze me cuz I rode a "trashmaster". Ahh the old days... We'll defintinatly meet up next time I'm up. I don't make it up much these days since I starting having a family so I might be a
while. But next time I'm in town I'll bring it and show it to you. I'd like to see your bikes too.

That Frame is mine. I feel bad now that I haven't presented it earlier to the board. I used to race all over SE Mich from 80-85 then moved to Ohio in 86. I used to hate this bike when I raced it, it was to big for me. I started racing it when I was 11 and finished with it when I was 13, its pretty much sat in a mostly dry basement since. I live in Pittsburgh now, took it home and I'm gonna clean it up and make it rideable again. I'm kinda bummed now that the cantilever brakes bosses were ground off.

That is a killer piece of history right there.

I know where a couple NOS 20's are. Maybe I'll have to rattle some doors.

Something just clicked in my head and I'm remebering the 20 inch version of this was a "Phantom".

Pete...I totally forgot that you lived out of state.

I should have taken you up on the offer to see the bike in person when I had the chance, but like I said, I had that BBQ at my moms house to attend. Next time for sure!

WOW , what an awesome bike/story !! is this what happens when the fab guys do some after hours building ?? I always thought this fork design would be very simple yet also very strong ! wish someone would do a newschool fork like these.

For what its worth my buddy Gordy at Freewheeler Bike Shop here in Grand Rapids has one of these cruiser frame & fork sets hanging in his shop. I dont know what number it is but I believe Kevin Hickey owned it and a 20" BITD.
Its used but in nice shape. Gordy has alot of old school stuff, some things he just doesnt want to sell but if someone is looking he might part with it if the price is right?

I remember that bike being Wally's.I think I remember him having it set up black and chrome with the checkered headtube sticker.Chris Blackmore had a red painted one also. Kevin Mcneal had to flex the crap out of that bottom bracket. He was a beast for that lightweight techno.
