Yeah, looks like a little slow going, in the competition of links,LOL..
Last night in Faribault, the race had a pretty good turn out. Mark Conley's son, raced cruiser against some smaller dudes.. I noticed he also jumps the big doubles in the first straight.. Something I still haven't done.. So it was a good last race.
Cruiser class looks like it's getting alot tougher. For us guys that arent' in shape.

Mikko started another MN thread already, so since there are post on there already lets bail out of this one. I'm not coming back to this one unless Mikko kills his NEW mn thread... Geeeeeez!

Well Helll KOP! I’m supporting the Minnesota Godfather of threads! Lets giddy up!
I say this qualifies as the original thead!
Lets do a Re-Do of some Sandypants visuals here fot starters....
He's looking sad for some reason...
John was a disturbed child if I remember correctly...
Again, a very disturbing drawing of his...
Burger, trying to Mack on on Robin...Anybody know her where abouts? Anyone? Anyone?....
My favorite pic of the booger...
2nd Fav....
Most Fav! You know...Boecker is the only one to have a shirt just like DC's! Got some cool pics of DC with with his 1st BMX trophy after 20+ years. Think he slid into St. Michael though on a night the Braaaaaad A. was a no show!
This would be Boeck's in the remake of that same dammmmnnn jersey 20++++ years later!

This isn't old school, but it's MN BMX...
One of my fav pics from this summer- me and Manning at Brainerd last July. That weekend was so much fun, hard to believe that summer is going away again already. But it will be back again.

I have been waiting to hit the road to 218, car is packed, dogs are whining by the door... just waiting on mom and baby to pull into the driveway...

Geez - so many Minnesota threads.
Wouldn't it be less confusing if you called them all "Bruce"...

I had one of those snap-in JT face guards like DC's. My Dad and I drilled the snaps in place. I took it out on the track at a practice and got half way around and realized I couldn't see. Then we re-drilled the holes and and tipped it down and it looked so stupid. LOL!!!, then it was back to the Jofa. I wish they would make full faced helmets in clear or at least the face guard portion... Now that's a good idea.

You know what, that is a good idea. A really good idea.. clear in the front. That's why I don't have one.. I need to see... There was a guy with a open face with a old school snap mouth gaurd last night.
I got some good pics to post if I ever get home on my own computer. Can't wait till next week..

Everytime I see Driscoll's name I crack up. Etched in my mind forever is Theo screeming " Come-on Driscoll" down the first straight at the Hawkeye Nationals... My Dad almost p*ssed himself.

You know what Jerry, my cousin's best friend is a pro moto-x racer from So Cal, (Kyle Lewis) and he's sponsered by Fly or Aria or one of the big helmet co. I'm going to inquire. He's just the guy to bring it to the big guns there and manufacture one....seriously, Kyle's a go getter done guy.

The little one did though, must have been "Everyone gets a free trophy for the 1st 100 entries" deal.

So Mark, you just got that trophy for entering, you didn't actually win it?
Do you still have your trophy's?
That Rondo trophy is really cool. I'm going through the process now of getting my trophy collection narrowed down. I'm keeping some of my first ones, and the tallest ones. I throw a few in the garbage every week. I got about 20 more to throw away and i'll be good.

the size of 1980's BMX trophys is so hilarious. Way way overkill on the height and not enough quality in the peices. So many of the trophys were particle board with woodgrain sticker over the tp and a goofy hollw plastic tube for pillars. Almost like Hollywood props of a trophy. You could stage bar fights and smash them over each others head with no injury probably. Maybe some of you even did? Lets hear some good argue/fight stories from the 80's....the dark stuff.

Our Beagles BMX Team was dominant up North.

In Duluth we had "The Track" behind my house.

One day some kids come running over to me stating that some guys are down at "The Track" in racing gear lookin' for one of the team members? By the time I got there, they were gone?
Well some of the dudes, not from Duluth, didn't like how one of our riders was winning over their friend. The next race was a Saturday/Sunday combo so most of us stayed overnight there. That Saturday night my buddy got jumped by these guys which were older than him, not cool! Wish I would have been there but found out about it Sunday.
The guys that jumped him I raced and it fueled me even more to win! No more fists flew after that, thank goodness.
It's racin' and no ABA officials had any problems, just elbow to elbow racin' but some guys couldn't take it.
Seven years later my buddy was going to college with his main competitor. They became great friends and all the negativity was through his acquaintences at the time.
Here's an example of them racin'The guy in white goin' over the bars was the rider my buddy, in the lead, was having a problem with.
You have some main rivals in your age class and had this one guy at every race.
Looking at the first corner if you have gate 6, 7, or 8 you need to get a great start and make it to the inside!

I would look like this but would have my leg sticking out more to block as done by many Pro's in BMXA.

What's funny is that his Mom would come up to me and yell in my face that her son will run over my leg the next time I stick it out
I was taken back by that and she continued to ramble on until pulled away. This nearly happened at every race and not once did my leg ever get ran over, by anyone.
At the Virginia track I won my moto then "clunk" I get hit in the helmet with a rock? Dude through a rock at me in disgust but the Mom wasn't there...hmm?
Well 23 years later he showed up at Brainerd and the first thing he stated was an apology for how his Mom acted at the track and we just laughed about it. Guess she still acts that way and is even worse!
Some parents got into it but most of the time everything was cool.

Once upon a time at the old Rydjors shop back in about 1982 we kids began getting on Pat, the co-owners nerves after a while he finally got a wild look into his eye, grabbed the 6 foot crank straightening bar and told us all to meet him in the parking lot. As we gathered around him I saw a look in his face that was a little too real...he swung the bar around in circles as we taunted him like villagers wanting blood from Frankensteins monster. We laughed and went away.....probably for the best we left.

Since nobody is posting-here goes...my earliest bmx memory of strife. In about 1976 at the original railroad docks BMX track in Austin,14yr old John Stevens(Scott Boeckers uncle) was running around near the start line with his face as red as the FMF letters of the day. He was peaved about somehow getting snapped in the face by the rubber band start. That's old school-rubber band starting lines. but I am sure my 8 year old brain didn't file it away for the ages all that well. I am sure Mr Conley was there -maybe even had a hand in it? WHO knows? They WERE rivals.

Here is a pic of me in 1979 I believe at Shorewood pickin up some hardware, man I wish I still had that uniform. Photo courtesy of Ted Carl

Here is a pic of me at Brooklyn Park out front, I believe Jeff T said he is in the number two spot. My buddy Dave Punt is in the four spot.

Here is Bill & Jean Cecil of the famous BJ's Bike & Ski. Photo courtesy of Jayson Lindsay.

Here is a pic by the pool in I think 1981 when I was not thinking straight, I was getting into freestyle. Here is another bike that I would kill to still own.

I have made it back to the city after a great weekend up north. Nothing like it, unplug for a while, shrug off city life and hang out with the family.
Cool to see the pics, that old thread was awesome. Lot's o' MN BMX history in there.
This pic is from Marks site- this lil' dude is awesome. Check the brake lever, it's bigger than his hand.

My favorite part is the mighty Boecker and his famous quote down in Fairbault, "Brad Apold Sucks". That still makes me chuckle.

Thanks Mark. Watching those clips makes me antsy for fall racing.
I had a great summer. I can't believe that in March, I had no clue I would be involved with BMX again. Now, I've been to some Faction rides, went to Rockford, started racing again, and meet some really great people this summer. Thank you everyone for such a fun time this year.
