Hey Mark Conley (and anyone else that might remember me from the Brooklyn Park area in the late 70's & very early 80's). Dave C. told me about this site. Very cool. I really miss the BMX days - they kept us off the street (not really).

I scanned some pictures I had, find them at this link (click for bigger images). Some are racing, some are just being a corn-ball.
http://www.gwrra-txh.net/viktor/bmx/bmx_pics.htm

I've thought about racing again since it seems old folks like us are beginning to do it more. I've never left the bike completely. Mountain biking, road biking, avid triathlete in the mid 90's. Now I pretty much ride my Cannondale 29'er all the time.

I hope all are well. I look forward to visiting often.

HOLY CRAPOLI!!! Welcome Vik! Just got an email from you, and just found out you joined! Great to hear from you!

Awesome MC!

As for the new member here, I'm just glad we finally have someone who can definitively sort out the Tim Krone photos from the Viktor Daneleus ones..... lol. Aside from the blue jeans vs leathers evidence, I'm thinking the two of you account for one of the most frequent cases of mistaken identity in all of our photo collections to date! wink.gif

Am I messed up in the head, or did you guys have the same guy paint your helmets? If my memory serves me correctly, it was often difficult to tell you two apart at a glance bitd, leave alone 25 years later in photos.

I'm certain there are quite a few historical vaguearities that are certain to be dispelled by our newest member here!
B. Apold
WOW! Victor Danelelous, awesome you found the site.... You were another house hold name in the MN bmx world... great photos.

I like the photo of you, DC and Sheely... You turned A pro correct?

Is that a 26" bike?

Yep, it's the same frame I used for slalom - it's been raced as a BMX before (although it had 4 speeds then). It'll be running a single for now, but I have Profile 3 speed wheel being built for it as well.

Shawn, yes its a vhs tape to cd's player.

Scott, VHS to DVD? CD's probably won't hold enough info to be of much use.

I'll gather up the tapes and hand them off to you at the Condo (if I can't trust you with them, who can I trust smile.gif)

Viktor!

Great to see you here, and that you're still riding bikes. Good to see more pics, I'm just wondering why Dave and I seem so surprised in this photo - we have that "Dude, what happened!" look on our faces...

Cool bike, but not sure how that's gonna work at Rehbien's... I'd like to try it though. I like real hard suspension. I actually ripped mine apart (MTB) and made a dual spring setup to stiff'n it up. Its a middle of the road shock, so maybe the upper lines have two springs.. I don't pay attention.. LOL!

The fork I had built for this was made by a fellow OS'r who rides BMX on his suspended bikes, so it has a dial down to 75mm - where it get's really stiff. I know some people have concerns about the bigger bikes, but I find that I can actually turn tighter with the bike due to the fact that the front end sticks better and the geometry tightens up when the suspension is compressed.

Keeping things stiff is the key, you can end up on your head if your fork twists under had cornering.
John Sandberg
Viktor! Holy time-warp. Glad you're hear and that you've brought such cool pictures to share.

Texas is a long way from Brooklyn Park. Hope you're doing well and no longer riding that Yamaha Seca.

I'd forgotten about your return to BMX for those indoor races.

This place is so much fun.

Now I really have to get in touch with Tim Krone...
Shawn Sheely MN-1
Sandbox... old man. Sorry I missed your B-day, we were out of town.

Let's carpool up to the barn before the Condo.

I'm planning on doing some racing this year (I have high hopes of having the time to do so) - but I'm planning on doing two enduros (Millville?), two Super-D's (you should get in on one of those), two MTB races (Redwing and Spirit) and two Crits (State Champ and Northfield).

It would be fun to do a race together this summer - even if it's just busting out a weeknight crit at Dakota.

btw - I saw Sperger at the Cyclecross States two weeks ago, looks like he's riding quite a bit. You should have seen his head snap when I yelled out "Dig it Burger!" while he was hammering up the hill.

He rode well, and his Mom was there. Burger.

Yes you can. I still can't imagine suspension of any kind of a bmx bike. There's just not enough time. tongue.gif But leave it to Shawn. Russ did okay on his didn't he? I forgot about that one.
John Sandberg
Shawn-

That sounds like a nice, rounded race schedule for the upcoming year, and that we'll see each other a few times. Racing is the greatest.

My, ahem, program will consist of Thurs. night Buck races, Cable Classic (will be my first), 1-2 harescrambles, a couple weekday pit bike races at Elko and...maybe...a stab at the Baja 500 on a dirt bike.

I went to the Baja 1000 a couple weeks ago for work, got to ride passenger in a side-by-side ATV for four race hours. That event is magnificent on a scale that is impossible to describe.

Oh, and I'm racing the I-500 snowmobile race again this winter.

Plus, the minute Cal says he wants to race something (BMX or moto), I'm right there with him, screaming obscenities like a hockey dad and demanding fair treatment from the biased track workers.

I'm hoping for some big time sponsorship from Action Graphics (Walton) and All The Racing (Conley) for all the above. And MN Faction gear from Mikko. Last year they just paid for bikes/motorcycles, entries and travel. This year I'm going for a six-figure salary and once-a-week body massage. I'm hopeful.

Its great to see you vbmx, you need to make sure you hit the Condo Classic, check my signature for details.

I might come out to watch the Condo Classic. Sounds like a good time.

Rollergirls bout on Saturday, guaranteed to be crazy ........or something.

Pooo, we have a neighborhood holiday party to attend otherwise I would be there on sniffers row with a PBR in hand.

Viktor
Hey all. Shawn, thanks for posting the picture from Colorado. That looks like the day we went up Pikes Peak.

The picture of the dude reading BMX Plus is not me, that's Rick Theisen. He raced a few years and went to school with me and DC.

I'm looking for a 24" as we speak and am about 90% sure I'll be at the Condo race in January. It's so very cool to see and hear from all the guys that rode way back then.

By the way, I live in San Antonio, Texas now. Been here since 1986, for the most part.

Note the head shot picture I'm using. It's from a Star and Tribune Sunday issue, April 1980.
Jeff Manning
Its good to see you on here Viktor!

What comes to mind when I see your name is Chicago Ill. 1979, Schwinn summer tour..

Pounding on DC's hotel door and he answer's just wearing a bath towel and you yank it off him, leaving him completely naked. Thats the same weekend Sandberg got happy with the Cheese Curls laugh.gif

I remember Williams a bit. For one, he was the only black guy that raced, as far as I remember. Also, he wasn't really that fast or anything. But wasn't he from Albert Lea or something. That JMC cruiser was sweet. Also that other guy by him, from Albert Lea... Jeff Weberg.. that guy was cool. I got to be good friends with him towards the end. I even went to his house to ride, and he came to Waseca to ride. I bought his quarter pipe.

Are you refering to Leon Williams who rode for JMC?

KOP, your correct, it is Garrett Williams we were talking about.

There were allot of "A.L." riders I wish would come around. Weeb's, Craig A, Sean Biggs, Steve Speers, and a bunch of other great guys... My mind escapes me right now
King of Pipeline
Steve Speers.. I would pay big money.. alteast a few hundred to see what that guy looks like now a days... Me and him went at it a few times. Almost fighting in Mankato once. I really couln't beat the guy, we were both pretty slow..
But in the last corner I rubbed his tire and he slid out, and I past him and qualified....I remember he came over and said something to me with some other guy... I was kind of scared.. But later, in the years we actually kind of got along, cause we both didn't care that much at the point, which place we got...

Also, his sister was one of the only babes to show up at Albert Lea,,, but we won't get into that....

It stopped snowing.. I've been working doing snow removel, to make an extra buck.. Looks like I got another back breaking tomorrow...
Viktor
Okay, I jumped...
I got my bike today at lunch (Redline Proline Cruiser). Nice bike. I went to my local track since it was practice night. They ended up making it a race night because so many race days got rained out this year. I did not race. I did practice for a solid 2 hours. Definitely felt better about my bike skills after some practice but there’s a long way to go. The track seems a little longer than in our day and certainly more technical.
Local Track: http://www.lonestarbmx.com/

It was nice to meet some guys, and girls, in their 30’s and 40’s. One guy I talked to a lot, and got some good pointers from, is 45. He says there’s even 2 guys in their 60’s that race periodically – wow.

Bottom line: I’m not even riding respectably yet. Need to work on bike handling, sprint endurance and gate skills. Yow, that's about everything. Did I mention the bike is in good shape? laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Spin Class here I come!
Paul Springer
Vik, that is awesome that you took the plunge and bought a bike. That Redline is definetly one of the better complete race bikes available out of the box. I think it is one of the best bang for the buck rides out there. Sounds like your right on track with getting back to racing, I am psyched for ya. Just take it slow and steady and don't push your limits and be smart. I just completed my first full season that ended a little early due to a crash. Keep us posted with pics and we hope to see you at the Condo Classic.

Those old wooden jumps were so silly.. They were so rough. If you didn't lift your front wheel first going over them, it was a rough ride. Look at how small they are too... No good for jumping either. Unless you got about a foot of air, or land flat....That are some cool pics though...

How the hell do you know^^? Don't confuse these with picnic tables tongue.gif Those jumps took massive skill. Full throttle and one wrong move and it wasn't pretty. You watch the 81 Indy races and watch Pistol Pete. The guy doesn't even touch the jumps

These jumps take skill?? are you talking about the same ones the 6 year old beginners roll over too?
Shawn Sheely MN-1
KOP, I would have thought you had spent some time on the wood, you never raced indoors? Basically, you'd bunnyhop the front side (no matter how fast you were going) and pedal down the backside - yes, it took skill to not clip the front side and land on the concrete.

Anyway, I came in to post these lilttle gems I found for Bill:

Apologies to the owner of these photos for posting without permission, I grabbed them for a "just in case" - I think this qualifies.
