Racing isn't always pretty.

Here's a pic of Hans (just over my shoulder) at an IA series in 1883.

I think I was in Mason City, Iowa for some double point race. I remember Hans Nisson being there. Man, When you seen him ride, you'd think there was nobody that could beat that guy. Even on a national level, that dude was always in the finals. Alot of talent there.

I would have to disagree. Boecker was looking pretty gracefully and strong just only a couple summers ago.

Fast forward to 4 minutes and turn the volume up.....

We'll he wasn't 20 years ago.. The old age must have made him graceful all of the sudden!
King of Pipeline
At that Faribault race. He basically is taunting the comp. I was trying my hardest too, and he's basically coasting.. My hat is off to The Hacksaw.... I need a half track lead, to even come close..

When I moved to TX and would tell people from I'm from Iowa, the first thing I always heard was "Did you know Hans Nissen?" No I did not. I think he became a big name -later. I raced from 1979-83. Mark Driscoll was the bigtime Iowa guy. I wanted to make a shirt that said, "Yes, I'm from Iowa, no, I don't know Hans Nissen."

I remember Hans around about 82. Sean Miland use to race him and he was fast but Sean usually took him. I don't think it was until after 84 when he blossum'd...so to speak

But he doesn't have the crown, he's just very good for the amount of time he spends doing it. I'm not sure when you quit racing, but the tracks today aren't like 1992 mate. Like most of us that came back for wahtever reason, it was a shock at the changes.

I saw the track from the youtube video from 2007 in Faribault and that looked pretty much the same as when I last raced in '94.

You should try it and see. You'll have fun, no doubt about that. Most are running 24" bikes. Coming back its easier to ride, especially the geometry of the new bikes. That's the biggest difference..Literally night and day from 94-08. Clips are popular as well. I think if you hit the St. Cloud track you'd be floored. There are 7-8 jumps in the first straight alone. Faribault is cake walk compared to St. Cloud. Isanti is the track I like.
Tracks in general: I wish they'd go to more of a late 80's track again, but they won't. Isanti is a little more like a 90's track IMO. Long, fast, big jumps-but time to breathe and its layout is second to none.

The ABA and NBL (especially) tracks are real technical. HUGE jumps with lips. I don't know first hand, but I watch Marktube

I just got a line on a '70's chrome Schwinn at a friend's in-law's estate sale - I'm heading out tonight to pick it up ... pics coming soon.
John Sandberg
I've always thought Boeck's was graceful, fast and at least 6-ft. tall.

The guy is a cop who packs heat even while riding BMX and who has muscles in his poop...who in their right mind is going to challenge him?

General question: What in the heck was going on in the late-'80s that everyone felt compelled to race BMX wearing sweat pants?

Sorry Paul, it's not the one you're looking for. It's two years newer, a 1980 36/36 Scrambler.

This thing is in good shape, totally stock right down to the chainguard, which I found on a shelf while digging for the missing rear brake. I'd rather have the chainguard than the brake (I never found it). It's an easy one to find, basic Wieneman silver. Nice thing was someone taped the bolts for the chaingaurd directly to it - and it's brand new.

I also scored a sweet solid-state Panasonic radio with cassette recorder. They don't make them like that anymore, I've been needing a radio for the workshop. Perfect, I think I'm happier about the radio than the bike.

$10 for the both of them, a nice score and a nice partner for my '78 Mag Scrambler.

Here's a link to the original 1980 36/36 Scrambler ad.

And to a few more pics of the bike at my Picsa account.

That little 16 is pretty cool, I'm tempted to get it for the neighbor kid - he'd rip that thing.

Tedddd - What showed up in my mailbox 150 miles away that was ticking today?

The description I got when I said to open it, she says It was "some gears or something". No letter, no note, just a "I have no idea what the hell it is". I said, "Thats ok he was world champion, and beat the Anderson bro in the process.... "Ok... I still don't have any idea what it is"

After decoding that description, site unseen just now. I say thank you! Unless of course it smells of poop muscles, then I may have to send it back

That chrome 36/36 is 1980? I just saw a CL ad of someones shed & could see a Scrambler peaking out of a pile of bikes. Contacted him & just have to go pick it up. Can't wait.

I love how everyone remembers their last race like it was yesterday, then they finally stop talking and show up and the tracks seem twice as long, the jumps twice as big and the road rash and tweaked knee from the first face plant never seem to go away.

WOW! Shawn,

That 36/36 is basically all original. You should really clean that up.....or sell it to me. Trade for FMF 24" tongue.gif

After examining those ads notice the blue 36/36 frame double tubes flair out before dropping down? That add is the from the first gen 36/36 bikes and the black w/ red bike you have is older than the chrome version you found. The chrome one is kinda like the Preditor and its also more like the "Competition" model frame, another real rare bike. Ted, am I close here???

Springer, You gotta jump on that Tuff bike.....!!
