I remember at race at Big Willow where they did the same thing (except that was a downhill) - my friends dad went over the bars and messed up his neck. They never learned this was a bad idea?

Its no different than us stupid fools racing/riding now... These guys are about the same age. Now putting that into perspective, it is cool that we can still do it, well to a point anyway. I'm not fearless, and the brain gets in the way of the pair. Mark did ya get that one?

I'm going guess most of the first-gen riders were done by this point. I think Mercado, Lyndsey, etc. still raced. How bout Boecker? Sandpiper? Chucky? IN 87 bmx still had the OS thing going on, and doesn't look like to much change other than attendence.

I would have never imagined finding "ANY" of these old friends/people this late in life. PLUS the new friends that have been made that I never knew were around when I raced.

P.S. And yes, poop on all the others that had to create their "own Island" and take the ball and go home. It is sad, because I like MANY became interested in this sport because of some of them. Funny, I talked to Eddy tonight for a few min.
Honestly, I don't think he's on the BMX sites much. But I would guess he lurks here occasionally.
He posts maybe once a month at BMXAO, mainly to people he's known forever.
So Ted Carl, Mark Conley, and Bryan Franklin.... You guys are all from Minnesota too?
Honestly, outside of knowing about the the Jag BMX Worlds,

I met Carmen Electra because I was a DJ a big club in Palm Springs called Chilers 94'- 96'.
There was a Billboard Magazine awards event and they rented the club for the after party.
Carmen came up to the DJ booth, asked if it was cool to leaver her stuff and come up as she pleased.
No prob. She was very nice and suprisingly normal. She introduced me to Tommy Davidson, Tone Loc,
Ricky Bell from Bel Biv Devoe/ New Edition and a couple of her girlfriends.
For the record...... Red genie pants and a sleeveless white collard top. No digits..... Oh well. LOL!

Took a look a page 79 where you guys wer talkin about the 08' ABA Grands.
Great to see Dave Christensen racing! I heard he had been back racing again.
Did you see the clip of him in Joe Kid on a Stingray where he's beating
Schwinn's Donny Atherton into the first berm at Rancho in San Diego!!!!
Any day in 79' - 80' where you were beating Atherton was a good day!!!!
Plus if you hadn't heard, Rancho's first berm was legendary for it being TERRIFYING
and notorious for sending plenty of racers to the hospital. Way to go Dave!
I remember that pic of DC that he's using for his avatar.
I'm sure he was diggin' the power wheelie with the chain flexing
in front of Atherton AGAIN! Some just have it too good!!
That was a Nor Cal race. Maybe Fremont? Angelscamp?
You guys mentioned Dave Archibald.
My dad, a NBA/ ABA track official got him started racingin 79'!!!
Dave's dad owned a car repair biz in San Diego that my dad went in one time.
Dave had a blue race Inc hanging from the ceiling. My dad said, "Hey kid, is that your bike?"
He had never been to a race. We took him and he signed up.
Dave said he's the number 1 or 2 longest lasting riders to CONSISTENTLY
have a BMX license in the Pacific North West.
He always renews his licence every year since 79'.

Willie Hubener.........
I remember Diamond Back's team manager, the late Sandy Finkelman talling me
(a year before he passed away) that Willie had contacted him and was in college.
Think he may have said he was playing football. Sandy was very happy to hear from Willie.
Funny that Torker pic on page 81 (?) It could be a jab at Torker cause they were going bankrupt
at the time. And when you're going bankrupt...... you owe people money.... advertising, racers, cough cough.
Brad you mentioned Wayne Croasdale. Do you remember what team he was on in 81'?
He wore a black and yellow uniform. His teammate Mike Kitchen joined Vintage a few

Brad,
Was it you that mentioned Charlie Brackens took you out?
I just found a pic of Charlie and I riding around staging at the 83' Worlds in Burbank.
I think his big brother Tommy told me Charlie had one leg longer than the other.
Trip, I thought Breithaupt was the only one. Breithaupt ran two different length cranks.
Think Charlie ran the same length on both sides. LOL!
Butterfield,
Am I mistaken, or did you get a headshot and a small write up in Super BMX magazine?
Also, a few years ago, did you race at an ABA national at Lake Perris (So.Cal)?
I had a guy named Butterfield in my moto in 36 & over Expert.
I heard some people saying he was an Pro in the mid- late 80's.
I saw a pic about 6 years ago of a group of steel workers in a union.
Donny Atherton was one of them. I honestly couldn't figure out which one was him.
He turned Pro in 1981, raced for a few factory teams, but not nearly as successful as his Am career.
He was a VERY nice guy to me. That's what I remember him the most for.

Brad, I was going through some old magazines last weekend looking for a Sheely's Wheels ad, I came across some NBL races in 1984 or 85, Donny Atherton came out in a privateer uniform and waxed all the big name pros of the day at a couple of races.
On the Willie Huebner thing - I was thinking maybe Torker was ignorant to something else, but I guess that makes sense as well.
I also came across my podium picture from the 1999 Norba National at Seven Springs PA - Rob Sears took first (Rob recently passed away), then Wayne in 2nd (didn't show for the podium - guess he knew the check was in the mail), and me in third for the 35-40 Men's downhill.
Oh, and Johnny - Butterfield now goes by the name Lindstrom. Has since the mid/late '80's.
