I don't think its Albert Lea because if memory serves me I believe Albert Lea put some type of cover over the ice or something, I remember this because I bought the farm in the first corner in every moto. Might it be the Minneapolis Armory????
John
It's not the Armory, nor Roy Wilkens - if it's not Albert Lea it may be an Iowa track. The Austin Arena used cardboard on the floor, pretty sure Albert Lea was concrete (at least the races I attended there).

I remember AL having indoor races on cardboard or so I heard (84?). That place also reminds me of some race I went to in Illinois, but the race escapes me.
What was the Des Moines Indoor venue called (Hawkeye Nationals)? Not the State Fair grounds venue though. I hit so many of the early 83 Winter Iowa State fair ground events. Those were some of the worst Winter storms I ever drove in.... Crazy wind and snow.
When was Jack D's last events held? what year? where? Just curious.

I was thinking Des Moines too - had a good race there when I was 15 - surprised Driscoll with a holeshot in the main for the open, but he got by me in the last turn for the win.

What was it about riding inside?? I can still remember that feeling rip'n through those turns and the jumps (clunk-clunk) making that sound. It was just cool. No wind, rain, mud, heat, bugs to contend with. Its hard to explain and I'd love to see a race held like it today. The no berms thing would be awesome!!!! sorry, I was having a childhood melt down.

Brad: I'm with you on the indoor nostalgia. Those races were extra magical. Maybe because it was winter outside, everything was contained in one space (pits, spectators, daBerger/Robin makout sessions, even the sounds), it was less frequent than 3x/week outdoor racing, it was faster, etc...
BTW: I have officially entered the vintage BMX ownership program. Yesterday I bought an orange Yamaha Moto-Bike off of Craigslist. With inner-tubes it will be a runner, but it's been used over the years. I doubt I'll keep it, but who knows?

The Felts,Floyd and Brenda, are still friends of my family so I read this and just called them up at the campground in Faribault where they have a weekend camper next to my mom.
