Don't forget the Faction BBQ is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 13th. Last year had a lot of OSer's show up with some very interesting MN BMX history.

Guest200901
Shawn - Thanks! I'm just slowly putting ideas together with this history thing right now

JT & Gary - You two know more about the whole North racing scene I think so any thoughts from you two would be helpful

That Jeff Moe is one sneaky devil, he has after burners like no other. I think he still has a smile on his face after stompin all us young punks. I shake my head everytime I think about him being 50 years old.

You rock Jeff Moe, I want to see the video LeAnn Moe took of the main event. I believe she got 36-40 & 41-45 mains.

Someones is going to be 44 on Saturday, here's a clue................

"Could you, would you with a goat?"
"I would not, could not with a goat!"

b.
Paul Springer
Let me take a guess...

bnd

Russ & Paul were walking through the woods and came upon a big, black, deep hole. Russ picked up a rock and tossed it into the hole and stood listening for the rock to hit bottom. Nothing.
He turned to Paul and said "that must be a deep hole...let's throw a bigger rock in there and listen for it to hit bottom."
The men found a bigger rock and both picked it up and lugged it to the hole and dropped it in. They listened for some time and....nothing.
Again, they agreed that this must be one deep hole and maybe they should throw something even bigger into it.
Russ spotted a big log nearby. They picked it up, grunting and groaning, and threw it to the hole, listening intently......nothing.
All of a sudden, a goat came flying out of the woods, running like the wind, and flew past the men and jumped straight into the hole. The men were astounded.

They walked on through the woods, and a little later met an old farmer who asked the men if they had seen a goat. Russ told the farmer of the incredible incident they had just witnessed...they had just seen this goat fly out of the woods, and run and leap into the big hole. He asked the farmer if this could have been his goat.

The old farmer said "Naw, that can't be my goat...he was chained to a big log."

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency says BMX rider Michael Kapes has accepted a two-year suspension after testing positive for anabolic steroids.

USADA says a urine sample from the 20-year-old Florida rider tested positive March 15 at the National Bicycle League’s Gator Nationals.

It was Kapes’ first offense.

The sanction began July 7, when his provisional suspension was accepted.

Kapes is disqualified from all competitive results since March 15.

How about John Sandberg listed as one of the top armature riders ever!
"Post some pics of possibly the greatest amateur BMX racer of all time, Richie "The Avalanche" Anderson, Patterson, Torker, Skyway 82' ABA Winternationals, Chandler Az. L-R. Sekai's Scott Campbell #6A, Patterson's Richie Anderson #7, and Tahoe's John Sandberg"

John Sandberg
Congrats on the win Cushman!

And let's be VERY clear about something: I was mentioned in that thread only as "racing against the greatest amateur of all time." And that's all I deserved.

Richie was, IMO, the greatest amateur in BMX by a long, long way. I feel honored to have raced against him, though I never seriously challenged him.

Ted beat him when it counted the most, winning the Worlds. A huge, massive achievement.

Well said John, but you were up there baby, make no mistake when you were on the gas look out!!! Ted's WC win was pretty dam cool huh? Nice clean win IMO. I'd have to agree with ya on Richie though, he was basically un beatable in the 82-83 years for sure.

Trust me, NO BERMS were needed! It was fast and just like concrete, with no need to hair spray. It has many layers of soil tac. Tires were squealing all day long

It was a great combination of old school and new school

This was the coolest section I thought. It was called the Candy Shop....You get your choice. It was about a 50/50 split, both sides were equal as to whatever your ability was.

It had six corners, 1100' long

DitchWeed
Hey kiddies......Bought an old GT from a co=worker of mine about a montth ago, last week he texts me saying he has some old pics of his racing days in Austin, do I want em? I tell him, of course I do!!!

Enjoy!

First, A Team photo ( he's the angry lookin' dude on the left-LOL ) Anybody know who the other rats are?

The starting gate at Austin, I believe....

more of the track.....lame photo, I know...

and lastly, a sad day indeed.....

The Gt in the 2nd pic will be at the Faction BBQ, BTW....

God bless Aberdeen. Nifty track. It does look fast and that gradual first corner is something fresh again.

Ditchweed: those pics must have been 84-85ish? Way past my existance in bmx. I don't remember those uni's.

That is a great helmet that Q-tip is wearing.. A guy named Dave Klegin painted it.. good2.gif

I think Redelsberger has it on his kitchen table as a conversation item.

Awesome.

There was one point in the very early Tahoe days when I wore Manning's old helmet, pants, underwear and tube-socks. Definitely made me faster, but the rash took months to clear up.

Truth: last night I had a dream that I was somewhere, and daBerger AND Robin Housely showed up, wearing their old unis and riding old bikes. In the dream, I was embarassed because I assumed they'd both read all the jokes on this thread.

I'm going to Aberdeen to ride that track. Sweet.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
John, that Aberdeen track does look fun to race on. Don't forget your stadium tires. (BTW, it's STOKE, not SWEET)

I was checking out the NBL Grands thread and came across the photos of Stu racing. The man is simply amazing. Here's the link: Grands Thread Post #60 at the bottom of the page

The racing looked intense. The 40-44 cruiser class had 41 riders. Six of the guys in the main went 1-1-1, the others went 1-2-2 & 2-1-1. You had to be on your game to make the main in that class.
