Fun time at Faribault tonight!!!!

Out of a cloud of dust, and the last person I thought would show up (well besides KOP and Brad)....SANDYPANTS!!!!

He's hooked and has sold the house, bought a larger tent and the family has now hit the road following the rest of the ABA nationals!

John is just a BLAST to watch ride! Not sure how the mains went, cuz I left early, but I am guessing Sandman pulled off a win!

Guest200901
Forgot! The Kraker Family (ALL 3!) even showed up and helped out with the scoring. THanks for pitching in!

This was Scott's old school roadrash showing..OUCH!

King of Pipeline
I was on the fence with going to Faribault tonight.. Just thought with the 4th and all, there wouldnt be much.. But that's a cool place they got there. Did Sandberg win it?
B. Apold
What a cool photo of John. Ya, its pretty safe to say you still got there Sandypants.. Impressive style indeed.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
It was a fun night of racing in Faribault. The new track design really makes for some great finishes. The Sandberg duo almost doubled last night. Cal was battling for the lead all the way, but came up just short for a great second place finish. John looks as smooth as ever and raced to a win.

Last thing I saw was the Sandberg caravan heading off in a cloud of dust, medals in hand, and chanting something about Tulsa, Oklahoma. biggrin.gif

B. Apold
I'm even toss'n the idea of going to Tulsa this TG weekend... I heard bring a grand to the grands though... Haahaahaaaa. We'll see.
John Sandberg
Yep, I just finished the resume, which I've mailed to Hutch, Robinson, Skyway, Schwinn, Redline and Martin's Hostel Shoppe.

I've been running the numbers for a couple hours and, if all goes according to plan, I can win enough to support the family.

Great to see Mark and Scott last night.

Everybody...blow something up today! Happy 4th.

AWESOME Fireworks tonight here in Austin!

John, what's this J.S. racing again! You got the bug? Just when I thought I had a chance your out practicing? Update your # plate, find a new one at a garage sale?

Brad, how did you place at the NAtional? Win? or did Delgado take you out again? Probably that Jason Wharton was responsible for the shake up...always causing mischief.

Delgado wasn't the problem, it was Richie, Sandberg and Salido. Somethings never change.

The National was allot of fun.

Ohhh gursh tongue.gif

It was the atmoshere that got me the most. Just being around that ABA national stuff was a great feeling. However, the turnout is less than some double pointers I attended as a kid.. I didn't know they only ran two motos now, it was a trip to find out that moto two is the last chance "Q". I understand there trying to run them quicker, but its also there way of knocking out 2 nationals with one stone. Either way it works, but for someone who didn't "Q" its a bit hard to swallow (IMO).

I might hit the Grand's, but its a tough time of the year to be racing (thanksgiving).
King of Pipeline
I like like that 2 moto system.. Wish they had that back in the day. Makes 3 seem sort of drawn out.. I was surprised when I first heard about that too.. When did they start doing that?

Hello fellow OSers!
Been racing in Mankato and New Ulm all summer. Well, not New Ulm, there is never a cruiser moto there. Have not hit any weekend races yet. We had 6 guys in the 31-35 cruiser class last Wednesday, and three to race in the 50 plus class.

I got to meet Jerry on the 2nd when he came to Mankato to race. Where were you this week Jerry? Those guys over 50 need to get thier butts whooped again.

Mankato is a great place to race during the week with at least 2 adult cruiser motos.

Blake is racing Inter this year. Got his last two Novice wins at his first two races this year. He hasn't won a Inter main yet, but has come real close a few times. I think he is really going to bloom toward the end of the season.

Cameron is off the training wheels at the ripe old age of 3.5 We ride all over the hood on his Redline micro mini. I put a zero stem on it to bring the bars a little closer for him. He loves riding bike. He is not quite ready to race, but cries at the track almost every race because he wants to race like his big brother. Next year for sure. They got a 3 year old racing in New Ulm every week.

We got the neighbors racing now. Thier 5 year old started this year. 10 wins in a row now. After advancing to inter, he has had to race 7I and is still winning. His sister now races, and his dad bought my old bike and raced Wed for the first time.

Looks like we will be getting paved corners in Mankato!

Someone stole my kids street bike out of our yard a few weeks ago. I am looking for a expert, or a jr/expert cruiser for him if anyone knows of one for sale.
I will try to post some pics soon.

Paved corners? That would be great. I noticed, I do lose most of my speed in the corners. I was actually at the Mankato track today, just a few hours ago. Some friends took our mountain bikes over there to ride a little. The wind was so bad... So we only stayed about 20 minutes.

But I plan on hitting the rest of the races this year. I do like hitting up Mankato, it's such a nice break in the week to get out.. I'm stoked on racing there.. count me in..

great update Justin...So Jerry "wood knee" Severson and you, Justin "robo ankle" Miller are in the same class eh? like to see the races in MKTO...I should bring the kids to watch maybe. Ive been doing kart racing on the local dirt oval circuits having mad mad fun...but I keep eyeing the BMX'rs in the garage wondering what to do with them. sad really. I want to see the super race between Brad "cyber thigh" Apold, Dave "Electro-calf" Christiansen, John "Suave conditioner for mega kinky folicle" Sandberg, Bill "Nuclear tibia" Nelson, Scott "rare earth magnet glutes" Boeker, Shawn "lightning scarecrow abs" Sheely, Paul "secret life" Springer and Gary "arc weld spine of God" Walton and of course myself-Sean "attack of the killer tomato gut" Miland.

"pretty" windy is what I was thinking.. The past few days here have not been pretty to say the least.

Very cool, that Dilworth track is the closest thing to old school I have seen since being back to racing. Conley and I went up there last year on the hottest day of the year and had a great time. I expect you scooped up a 1st place for the state qualifier series. How did Cal do up there in the great white north? We camped this weekend at Interstate Park (Taylors Falls) and had a nice weekend.

Tuesday is a possibility for me, we'll see...

Purely educational camping! Lots of clucking all weekend w/Christensen chicken coup!

Mankato went off without a hitch.. The heat was keeping the track pretty empty during practice. But I was pretty surprised of how there is alot of kids racing there. I mean like under 10... I think there was 17 motos...
Also looks like the corners were supposed to be paved today and 6 am.. Not sure if that was done, or not.. That rain was pretty heavy today...
Guest200901
St. Michael SQ yesterday. Started out great, but by the second moto's the rains came dammmmmmnnnit!

DC was FLYIN' But I think that's because Sheely decided to show up! Good to see you Shawn, these guys need some new old blood once in a while.

Good to see you guys too - Mark, Dave, catching up with Paul Cater ... Brad even stopped by to say hi (that GT is so sweet Brad).

I think I was glad to see the rain as I was having some technical problems - but Dave was looking like a locomotive. In the first moto I had to back off three cranks off the start when I heard something pop in my chain - but I couldn't close the bike length gap after that, Dave was nothing but intimidating power of old daze. Very fun.

DC - looks like you have the Grands in your sites? You'll do very well I'm sure, solid.

See you guys next time.

That rain thing came in quick... man!! Wish I could have stayed to watch, but my gel doesn't like moisture... Shawn, it was good to see you too and thanks (GT props). Its really fun to see peoples reaction when they see it. Little kids are like "WTF, is this something new?" OS'ers are dig'n it. More than anything, I miss the vivid colors/chrome and polished of old. NS bikes are boring to look at, unless its a GT Boxalderbug model tongue.gif

The Grands: I have put some thought into attending the Grands myself, so not sure who's going, but if you are, maybe get a convoy or something together. Thoughts? DC? John? Paul? Russ!!!!!! tongue.gif

DUG, you haven't changed a bit. BTW, did you get my points fixed with the ABA???
Gary Walton
Shawn, I was on a family camping/biking trip this weekend and we ended up doing a 20 mile loop in the Chippewa National Forest. I couldn't stop thinking about your TC racer, as it was too long of a loop for a BMX bike and I just do not fit my Cannondale F600. It has great components, but all my weight is on my wrist and shoulders. I'll have to give the TC Flyer a spin someday and maybe get one ordered up.

DC, Paul - I know it's a ways out of your zone, but the Norway Beach Campground was a sweet spot with riding trails, paved and unpaved o'plenty. Highly recommended.

Gary - sounds like a fun weekend, you'll have to grab the bike sometime.

I'm thinking about the Grands ... running against DC this weekend was a wakeup call, I need to get in shape if I want to do any more racing. So, if I have the time to train - I'd be down with a Grands trip.

Ya, as we've all discovered outdoor tracks are a little more demanding than Rehbein's. Rehbein's is all I ever did since the little NS outing, and once I race Elk River (last year), it was an awakening indeed. I miss ER's track, but the Isanti course layout is very simular.

The grand's... I've been told its hard to stay on the bike. Pretty gnarly jumps.

KOP? - You are right between the two....

MOE - They have Wussified the Faribault jumps now, so are you coming to apply yourself? (BTW, I believe there is a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in order soon?) There should be a REALLY old guy class at these!

Cal & D.C. in for both races! I thought we might miss PM, but now both are in order. Sand are you in for Son/Dad combo?

Sheely just because I won the 1st moto doesn't mean I would have won the main; you would have got me on the main! Actually you need to talk to your mech-an-ic, click bang pop on 1st moto, 2nd moto out of the clips for pedal slip, and saved by the rain prior to nasty DNF? Good Time!

Gary, great tip appreciate! Always on the lookout for camping with a little pedal action.

I was super tuning Cal’s bike tonight; need to get him in the main. Finally 20X1-1/8th tires!

I will be at both Kato and Fairbault on Sat for sure. We stopped by the Mankato track on the way home from New Ulm to look at the new PAVED CORNERS that just got done this morning. We have a lot of work to do before Friday. The track is a little tore up from the equipment and the rain we got last weekend. It is going to be a gnarly track. Never raced paved corners before.

Hope to see you all there!
Shawn Sheely MN-1
Mark, I'm out - wedding this weekend in Ohio. Good news it's one hour from the Mid-Ohio Vintage Moto gathering - that's where we'll be Sunday.

DC - I do need to talk to my mech is true, time for a better chain at the least. DNF was definitely on my mind (the shame), we'll match up again soon enough good times indeed.

When you cranked out of the first turn you squared-off, kicking up a chunk of dirt and instantly changing direction. It reminded me of the 14 over open at the old Austin track, Mark leading you into the first turn around the tree, he power-wheelies off a non-existent burm and roosts chunks as he sprinted off towards the second turn (I had a good view from the back). I had the same reaction Saturday as I did back in '78 - all I could think was "holy s..., that's power!"
