I'm hoping to.. That's for sure.. That would be my last race of the year. Sounds like fun. If I did, it would be sunday. But right now, it's not looking good. I know you want your revenge. My left knee has been hurting for awhile now. I went to Mankato a few weeks ago, to ride that new track. I was there about 15 minutes, then drove over to the old track and rode there about an hour.
That new track is so massive. I can't believe it. You could ride a motorcycle on it.. But it's very cool though. Very bumpy, and it was so windy that day I could do anything anyway, But my knee has been hurting ever since.

He ^^ was an amazing rider, by even today's standards. He rode as if he was 14, and had that same pumping style riding. It was cool. I think on an amatuer level he went the furthest in MN with a Factory team. DB was the big time team. Imagine being on the same team as Leary, EK and Pete Longcarrotstick (as Lembke would say)... Cool stuff

I remember Willie. Excellent rider. Hopefully he may show up someday, because he would be in the younger bracket of the Old School times, and share what he remembers about the the good and the bad from his own side of the gate.
One thing I have learned from all this public forum crap...is, we may want to not judge others and their situations, or say things we may regret at a later time. Been there, done that, seen that, and still seeing that...

Teddy, Little wuss? I got you by 5". LOL!!!

But that doesn't mean were both not short. LOL!!
Ya those are the Comp ST's. I was going to by Comp III's, but I think I'll stay were I am. Detail wise, I have along way to go. Everything was done with Mothers mag polish and a rag, well that and Easy off and 350g, 1100g and 1500g sand paper and .00000 steelwool. Hey what moer do ya need right? actually the bike needs a weekend with you for that extra ooooomF.
No snow is the prediction again this year and all this rain will really benefit us come Spring (my favorite time of the year).
Florida: Who knows when if at all. It'll be atleast 4-5 more years before we do anything.

Teddy, Have you OR do you know if you can wet sand powder to get a smoother non-orange peel finish??? I had to lightly file off a little around the area on the fork which that "race bearing" cup thing sits. Ya, the cup thing that you have to tap on with tube... you know, anyway, that area wasn't suppose to get colored. When I was sanding it down to metal I noticed how easy it will come off with grit... However the powder finish won't chip. cool stuff.

I don't have any certainties on wet sanding powder. I know most of it is thermosetting plastic that is now being used, and not thermoforming, but not knowing what you have for certain makes for some guessing too, as both still exist and both are still used. I would bet it is thermosetting on there though.
I would think that you could wet sand it, and buff/polish it like paint, but I don't know that I've ever done it. It's possible that I have done it and not known that it was powder that I was buffing. I really don't have a lot of experience with powder, however, I am good with paint.
My guess is that it will act like an epoxy paint when sanded and polished. Epoxy is chemically cured, and I believe TS powder is also activated chemically when heated. Part A and part B mixed kind of thing. Epoxy paint is mixed wet, and generates heat within itself to cure from chemical reaction. I think TS powder is the same, only instead of chemically generating the heat reaction from within itself, it is externally heated, eliminating the need for evaporating chemicals. Chip would be the guy to ask for sure. In the end I would think it is similar, but stinks less in the process. The EPA likes that too methinks.
I am on a catch-up learning curve on powders myself. Far from an expert on them, only applying logic here for you, as I really have lots to learn about it.
Try it on an obscure area first.
Giving the painter, or powder coater, an extra piece of metal to coat would be wise for any project. Then you can conduct experiments on it as a sacrificial piece. LMK what you find out.

They painted the forks almost to the threads, which I wasn't happy about, but in the end I have a good spot to try wet sanding it. I'll start with 1500g and then buff by hand. I think 3M finess and a waffle pad even on PC may generate allot of heat and either melt or burn. Now, this is only based on my experience snading that cup seat'd area I was telling you about. It doesn't take much to sand and you get the powder in hand... Its weird stuff.
This is my 3rd attempt at PC. I've had allot of car parts done (roll cage, turbo compressor housing, brackets and other make nice parts), but the detail isn't as involved in a roll cage.. I've painted allot to and so far the PC is really durable vs paint. Even slipping on the really tight rear hub, and it didn't make a scratch.
You guys gotta see this blue in person. In the sun its cool, but in artificial light its bright.
The color I choose was a happy medium from the OEM color. Its close in certain light, then not so in other light. Strange color.
Who's in for tomorrow???? Ted, drag your FMF out man!

I found this picture in my bucket, but it looks like an Ol' MC photo. This is Eddy King in the flesh @ Minnetonka 79. That was still one of my favorite local events to date. Seeing Clinton, Eddy, Agulera, Jason Jenson, Kevin Jackson, Delgado, etc. was just the coolest thing I'd ever seen..

My heart just about STOPPED when I saw this photo! If you were part of this track in 1980, do you remember the COCA-COLA championships they had there? I was living up in Grand Forks, ND. Most of our riders made the trek down to TONKA BMX for that race. It was my Very First Win! I still have the Trophy, and as soon as I figure out how to post Pics, I will post a pic of it! FOUR COKE CANS, with the old style bmx rider on top. Still a great conversation piece. I have trophys that are 6' tall and still thats the one most people ask about!!

Welcome to VBMX Chris. 1980 BMX racing was before my time in the sport but there are a lot of MN guys on this board that raced back then. I'm sure you will get some good feedback on this event.
Give us a little info on your time in BMX. I'm assuming you raced a lot in MN. Did you race any of the indoor events at the Civic Center in St. Paul? It's always great to meet new people and hear their stories. Can't wait to see your pictures.

I vaguely remember the Coca-Cola trophies...

...lol
Actually, my father had taken over as TO there at that point, and wanted to offer more than the cheezy little trophies that Bob had been offering. Bob had also pocketed all the money from running races there, as he only ran races there to make a buck on the side. I've told the story in more detail before, but the gest of it was such, that after a race one day Bob started divvying up the loot like a pirate. My dad said, "you don't make money running a business off of City property". Bob said, "Fine, you run the races". ....."Fine, where's the proceeds from the summer?" (Rhetorical question) ..... So it was starting from scratch there.
So he dived into sponsors, and with no money in the kitty, was able to come up with the Coke can deal for a few races. Cost very little, and therefore there was some money to start the Shorewood BMX project. A few more races were ran there with Coke as a sponsor, and Shorewood BMX was built, and the rest is history.
At that point Shorewood was already on the drawing boards, and the sandpit (Big Willow) was already on it's way out.
I got a few neat things sent to me by my grandparents the other day. I'll post em up asap.

I was just about in PART I! I was probably right out of the picture in the one of the HUFFY team on the Parade Lap at the 1982 Grand Nationals in OKC. I believe the the two up front were John Piant and Matt Harris. the two younger Riders were Andrew Soule and Troy Raatz. I think I was right behind them. I wouldve been racing 8X during the summer of 80. I was the 9x ND state champ in 81, raced at a couple Big races in Detroit and Illinois, got picked up by Huffy and they relocated our family to OKLA in Late 81.
