"Nope, can't make it" isn't going to cut it.

New plan for Friday:
1. Don't go to work tomorrow
2. Get out the denim vest w/ the Judas Priest backpatch
3. Brew 3 thermos's of coffee
4. Find your copy of Black Sabbath "Master of Reality"
5. Get in the van
6. Pound one thermos while waiting for van to warm up and crank up the Sabbath
7. Depress gas pedal all the way to the rugs
8. Throw the shifter into "D"
9. Lay down a big ol' burnout as the missus chases you down the driveway screaming "KAST!!!!!!"
10. Dodge the croquet ball she throws at the van
11. Head out to the Condo

now mikko, we' ve been through this before, the priest jacket doesn't fit anymore and i don't drink coffee.
now give me a date on the broadway pizza gig before that gets screwed up.

here's your plan for tomorrow, skip work and cruise the yuppie wagon around MPLS and round up all the people i found.
Justin Miller
It is looking more and more like I am not going to make it up there tomorrow night. I just started a new job this week, and the soonest I have been getting out is 5:30. It is a 2+ hour drive for me to get up there. I ordered pedals for the new cruiser from the bike shop here in town and they just told me they wont be in until tomorrow. That means I have to drive down to Mankato from St. Peter, get the pedals, pick up Blake and get on the road. It would be 8:00 by the time I get there. Registration closes at 7.

If there is a way I can make it work I will, but it is not looking too good. sad.gif

Hello,
I stumbled upon this site and better yet this thread. Thanks for starting it!
I am so bad with names I couldn't remember anyone If I tried but I have to say your descriptions of all the BMX stuff from the late 70's into the early 80's almost brought a tear to my eye...
I Built up the old Sting Rays, Rampars...lol even a R9 and a R11. My favorites were my RACE INC and my last bike a Floval Flyer.
I have a few pictures from my 24" days. I started #62 and ended up 5th or 3rd... getting old can't remember lol, in either 81 or 82.
I still have that 27? year old plate and the bike. I just dug it out and I am trying to decide what to do with it. I stopped riding BMX at the end of that season and started working with ABM on their BMX bikes and then went nuts with the mountain bike stuff.
So what is an original old school BMX guy to do with his Floval and landing gear? I have a bunch of the old parts, stem, cranks, power disc. The wheels disappeared. I have the original torker bars the washers for the frame and fork, pedals. Hmmm maybe I am answering my own question. I think the only missing part is that gawd awful UNI-SEAT.
If any of you guys were racing cruisers in 81 or 82 let me know.
Thanks for the memories,
Ted Carl
Welcome fasturd! lol

If you like this thread, you should have seen the one that went missing into cyber space... 800 pages long. That was the one full of the good stuff.

So, are you going to be at the barn Friday night? The more new/old faces the better!

For starters don't give up or get rid of ANY of your Floval, or forks, or plate and stuff until you know what is really going on with the collections. Those are all highly vaunted items!

Tom Erickson
I raced Cruiser once at Shorewood back in 1982 on a 24" GT. The other guys were all on 26" bikes and at least 5 years older than me and I smoked em.

Ted is right. You missed all the great photos and stories we had on that 800+ page thread. If you go to the website on Conley's posts it has all the photos.

It's been a while guys. I wish I could make the Condo Classic. Looks like a good time. I've started a new training program so I can be more competitive this year since I plan to race some ABA Nationals. I hope to make the Minnesota National this summer. I'll be watching the banter till then.

I am way out of the BMX world, so I don't know what the "barn" is?
I still ride a 24" I bought from Rick Blei performance it was his personal bike. Its an aluminum 24" Schwinn, with limited edition Chrome wheels and some other tasty bits. Geez even that thing is 10-12 years old now... My daughter is kind of interested and I had hoped that maybe someday we will go riding /racing together.

So where is the barn?
And I appreciate the advice on the parts I had better get looking for the rest of my old school stuff.

Brutha turd, welcome...

What part of the state did you race in? Did you hit the Rondo Classics? What is your real name? I would bet that you know someone on here for sure, no questions. What ever you do you need to try and make to Lino Lakes Friday night for the Condo Classic: DETAILS HERE

The whole Rondo thing sounds so familiar... I lived in St.Cloud but raced mostly in the cities. Shorewood, Flying cloud, Brookly Center/Park? I never really got past the Metro area. I did race at a couple of the nationals. AMA and NBA indoors in St.Paul. I remember them spraying POP syrup on the corners and the cool sucking/ripping sound it made as you tore throught it! I also remember that my Mom and Dad were cool enought to let me drive 4 friends and my self to the event in St.Paul. We spent both nights tearing up the parking ramps, nothing like getting pushed into a down hill concrete wall at 30 mph! LOL

I sucked on a 20" but I did pretty good on my Floval.
I started as #62 and made it to 3rd or 5th in 1982.
Was and still 'am Bill Powers...

I am not sure I can make it Friday but I would like to bring my daughter up there some time to see if she is interested in the whole racing thing.

Hey fasturd/Bill, welcome to the site & this awesome topic. I see you mention working w/ ABM. That's good - stick around, because my brother-in law just got two of the old Race Tech frames and we'll need all the help we can get restoring these. Check out earlier this topic for pics (pgs 55-60 or so).
You know, I had no clue these ABM bikes existed when my bro-in law got them. He didn't even know what they were. I come to find that I'm surrounded by friends who are a treasure-trove of info on these. This place rules.
See you all tomorrow night at the barn!

Welcome Bill. If at all possible, you should try and make it tomorrow. This will probably be the biggest gathering of 80's racers all year. I'm sure you will run into someone you raced. If not, you can keep in touch with us by posting on this thread or by checking out www.alltheracing.com or www.minnesotafaction.com.

He are some cruiser pictures from '82-'83 that you may recognize.

Other than the new addition to the group, things are pretty quiet tonight. This must be the calm before the storm. Sweet dreams and see you at the barn.

The pos just dumped my last post....

If you need someone to build and cherish the Floval I'm here to help btw...

Here's something to get warmed up for the Condo Classic with....THis time I'll send and edit as I go...lol

Just remember old old schoolers, that although we've lost the benificial information we had in the old thread, that doesn't mean it's any less important to heed the lessons learned there!

Like stretching before racing. Remember Paul's technique is not for the faint of heart, but you should at least try to follow his lead

But you know, come to think of it, maybe it was best that the thread was lost.

I heard Troy is going to be there Friday, and I'm glad he will never know about this old picture of him that was posted in the last thread.

And of course, the band may not be as good this year, but some of the memories of the last one should suffice, as we wouldn't want anyone to get upset or upstaged.

Are you showing up? Cuz when I talk to you earlier, your wife was CRACKING THE WHIP in the background, and you were whimpering "yes dear" I'm coming to bed soon. That was at 6:30

We need to meet the woman, cuz anyone who can make a 200++++pound man cry, has got to be introduced
John Sandberg
KOP, bring the sock puppets to the Condo.

Sandberg's are locked and loaded. Ready for...Theo (I hope).

It's amazing how my Rondo jersey still smells of sweat and Brut deodorant. I will be wearing it proudly tomorrow.

See you all then.

The 2008 Condo Classic was off the hook and thanks to Mark Conley for putting this all together!

Great turnout for Old School racers. The good thing is that everyone came out no injuries and it was a blast seeing some old rivalries 25 years later. Vintage bikes, stories, awesome awards, great track, great staff, money raised, and the list goes on!!!

Will be posting all the motos and mains just have an early Saturday so couldn't make it for the after party.

It was great to see Gary Erdman again and should have brought his Cook Bros. cruiser I bought from him to keep it here in MN. Dave Christensen (2z) was having a blast remembering old times and getting gnarly out on the track.

Here's Dave's BMX Plus cover from 1980 riding for Team Tremco before it became Team Rondo.

OMG!! I think stickers and T-shirts are in order for that Springer photo...LMAO. Night-night-dodo!

What a fantastic event. Mark and Pauli, guys-you again out did yourself. All the riders looked really fast and it was a close race. It sure made me want to run with ya.
It was great seeing Tim Krone, Mr Carl (Teddy'd dad), Jeff Ayers, meeting psycho, but most importantly Mr. Pat Gerahty of Rydjor Bike Shop.
Pat (along with Dad Ulwelling, god bless him) started bmx in MN as we know it 1975 behind there little bike shop... What and amazing chat Pat and I had.. They wanted to open a Suzuki dealership and couldn't find the 75k to do it (75K, in 1975?) so they opened a bike shop instead... I could go on and on.....

Mark Conley.......... Thank you!!!! You never disappoint.
