My wife and I always thought it would be neat to have a tandem kickin' around for when we're in the mood for a nice evening cruise.

So I see this on the way into work today. Stopped on the way back and it was still there, so I bought it.

Nothing fancy, just kinda neat. The paint has just a few rust spots here and there---nothing bad but I DON'T want to have to strip and paint this beast so I'm just going to clean it up a little. Everything except maybe the tires is OG.

I may do my first Oxalic treatment on those fenders and maybe try to just replace the rusty bars and stems. The rims are kinda rusty but perfectly true, so we'll just ride 'em! Unless some cheap steel rims pop up...

Or, yank the fenders, get a tube fork and BMX stem, and...

Oh yeah...that thing is sweet. Good call going back for it.
It wont take much to get rid of the rust.
Cool Cool!

I just dipped a set of fenders overnight. It worked great, all of the underside rust is gone!

I looked for a frame like that for awhile around here-one of the few things ebay isnt good for...hard to ship cheaply a tandem!!

had to make my own i the end,

Ever notice how "Vista" brand bikes will have some parts that look alot like Schwinn's?? like it looks to as though the fork on that is a forged "ashtabula"MI/PA/OH(not sure which state Ashtabula is in?) made. NOt to steal thunder but since were talkin Tandems...here is one I made a couple years ago. Front half from a Montgomery Ward type, back half is 26"Schwinn Hollywood. I used all Schwinn parts. rides pretty weird too! When I joined the frames together I had to angle the mens front part causing the bar and crank hanger hieght rise... If I could fit a tube fork I would. has 105 guage spokes, Cal Lite pad. USA made Carlisle stud typeballoon whitewalls.

Whoa! His 'n' hers! now that's cool.

Go ahead, show 'em if ya got 'em...ideas!

I'll see how the fenders come out of the bath. Your bike looks good without!

Cool Vista, nice find. I've got a Schwinn tandem I've had forever, one of these days I'll get around to fixing it up.

has anyone here seen the vintage 70's footage of a tandem racing a sidehack at -I think its- Corona? pretty wild... I think it was Reilly who made the little movie and posted it here freely. maybe he'll post it here?

Cool deal local buddy! Hey where did you find the Oxalic acid? Having trouble around here and everyone looks at me like a terrorist!

I can see the sexism in that frame! The rear position was for the ladies wasn't it?

How old is it by the way?

Yeah its a real Upper Midwest oldskool style. Man in front...in charge....leading the way. Woman stoking the pedals but not having the ability to steer anything...except to lean a little. You can see the Amish/Mennonite influence... Has anyone ever known a Amish or Mennonite BMX racer???

I made this 3 person bike...and immediately sold ot. Really flexy in the middle....hard to keep all the chains working with the flex. really slow steering...you didnt steer it- you "bent "it into a corner.

Plus,
Here is a wickedly rare tandem..the Schwinn "Mini-Twinn"

Now you can make a BMX bike out of that! If you thought sidehacking was tough try coordinating speed tucks over speed jumps!! Just hope the guy in the front position doesn't fart too much

I seem to remember seeing a pic of Geoff Scofield and other under 10 year old BMX stars riding a custom made tandem BMX bike in the pits.
