Okay, okay....they haven't! But I'm hoping to read that one day in the future!!

I was thinking the other day, as I was looking at my stash of NOS old school skin walled tires, the biggest O/S disappointment to me, will be the day I have replace the skin walls with black walled tires on my riders.

Eventually all the skinwalls on my dust collectors will also perish..what are we going to replace them with?...To me black walls on old school bikes, just spoil the whole look. I do feel a little guilty using up these "resources" but I just can't ride on anything else...not even skinwall Chen Sheng's cut it..

I see the perishable parts are going to be the hardest to replace in the future...

Personally skinwalled Tioga tires is one of the few parts I would love to see go back into production...

What parts would you like to see the "original" manufacturers put back into production???...

dont tease like that, yoo had me all excited

Looptail frames, Padsets!

other than skinwalled III's? most definitely skinwalled comp II's, real og style shimano dx pedals and araya 7x & super7x rims. those are the parts i miss the most.

mitsuboshi comp 2's - the cleanest looking tire ever

How about the shimano sx pedals and I think they were called araya 7L's (they were on my 85 pro racer. I loved them)

there is a bike shop in england that still sells the skinwalls 20x1.75 tioga comp3s.hardcore hobbies in suffolk .£14.95 each not much help i no but they are still about.

The skinwall Cheng Shins DO cut it in my opinion.
QuicksilverBMX
Yeah I reckon so too andy, I ran Cheng shin skinwall black snakebellys BITD when I raced and they were a great tyre
Profiler
skinwalls would be a great reissue. as long as they use a different logo (label) than the classics. I'd HATE for my one high $ pair of tires to become worthless.
rsrichie
well you know what they say "everything old is new again" so hopefully the trend will come around again.

GOD! Don't do that!! LOL!!! I need some 24 x 1.75 skins. I was actually looking at NS bikes and thinking what it is there missing and its the tan skin walls. So I'm trying to turn my NS FMF24 into an OS appearance. I might even paint it metallic gold.
AndyDiamond
The thing about teh Cheng Shins is the actually do have 'skin wall's not crappy gum walls.

They can actaully look better (more old school) than the Rainbow label Comp IIIs - those Comp IIIs have a lighter skinwall than the older ones.
B. Apold
Andy, does anyone still sell the Cheng Shins new?
AndyDiamond
Ginnys has them but they may be running out.

Here some Cheng Shin 24"s....

B. Apold
I talked to Ginny's...None to be had, and he can't get anymore

20" are certainly more common that of the 24". the 24" are on the bay once in a while and does no good to bid on them until there is 30 seconds left.... Vulturama!

While we're on the subject, can anyone throw in a quick timeline of the labels?

I know there was green/blue, yellow/orangish/red(rainbow?), and I believe solid yellow. And where does the term 'silverstar' come into play?

There's probably a thread on it somewhere, but I'm a busy guy, LOL

I just bought a set of Cheng shin blue and they are real nice.

I'm sorry.. I have to go against the grain, but I just can't use Cheng Shin's on my old school bikes, cause we never would have considered them bitd, because you could buy them from Kmart...I guess I was a tyre brand snob back then and suppose it hasn't changed...yet...

I would also love oakley to run a few more sets of .5 grips out...such a simple grip, but a winner in my opinion..

84profile, if you built a bike and needed a set of tires in lets say blue, red black or any other color. What would you put on it and where would you find them? Thats the problem, I have not seen a set of NOS older version comp tires go on ebay or anywhere else for awhile(20*1.75). Plus if you did find some and you wanted to ride on them alittle you would, well you probably would'nt cause you paid so much.

I'll be tossing up a post in the sale/trade forum with some decent cond cheng shin skinwall IIIs.

get your tradebait together. (these are strictly rider tires unless you're really good with bleech-white)

Hey sd, I hear you...and I guess that's what I'm getting at, because I'm such a fan of the original skinwalled Tioga products, that is exactly the dilemma.

This why I would love to see them go back into a production for awhile, so you would know that you could ride on them and know they are not such a limited resource.

Personally I only like black tires, which I still have a reasonable stash of, but they will run out eventually, and yes they are pretty expensive to ride on. I just try not to skid on them!
