I'm not sure how this one will be recieved as it'sa little on the taboo side for some collectors. Now you guys know I have done my share of nice builds, but I wanted to try something new and different. I wanted to do an old school ride with some new school flavor. Seeing how I do work for ABA BMX and have been involved in BMX racing since 1980 ( I never quit) and I'm still riding on modern equipment to this day out at Chandler BMX, I wanted put this bad boy together.

Parts list goes like this:

Pro-Dyne 26'er frame (original paint and no decals, I'm going to repowder it in a nice red I think.)
Bottema 26" fork
Tange MX-3 headset
Profile inverted stem
GT .073 Proto-type bars _ my good friend worked and raced at GT and tested lots of new goods, these are from the mid-90's)
ODI lock on grips
Shimano XT lever
Sun rims ( I build all my own wheels)
Profile Modern cassette hubs
Wheelsmith stainless spokes Alloy nipples
Tuf-neck valve caps
Bontrager tires
Profile cranks 185mm
Profile Bottom Bracket
Profile chain ring 38T
Profile rear cog 15T
Shimano DX pedals modern version
Dia-Compe MX-1000 rear caliper
Shimano XT brake cable
Suntour seat post clamp
GT seat post
White Elina Lighning bolt seat

This is one badass rider, it's some smooth and has the best of both worlds. A little history on the frame goes like this. I got the frame from a guy that won this in a 50/50 raffle at the '81 ABA Winter Nationals at Chandler BMX. He then took the frame back home to Texas with him. Now flash forward about 25 years. I work a deal for the frame, now remember, I work for ABA and Chandler BMX is my home track that I ride at all the time. I guess the frame has come home full circle now. I thought it was pretty cool story.

no taboo's, this is just the kind of bike I'm thinkin of building. raid the parts box ,throw in some new(stronger) school stuff and ride it without fear of breaking something!!!Built by you , for you. GREAT JOB.

Perfect as is. Don't touch it!

I like the look of the original (?) gunmetal grey or whatever colour paint you got on it now , it really shows up the chrome Bottema's.
It would be cheaper & easier to polish up the MX 1000's & keep that 1981 "black & chrome" theme
you got going there...

As for the new bits...

DX pedals , the legend lives on , they roll smoother & are more fun to play with than the originals when staggering the pin heights.

There's no sin in fitting ODI lock on grips onto an old school rider either , they are one of the better innovations over time that I stumbled across in the new school parts bin as well.
