That is incredible!
Lately I've been thinking that retro-vintage creations are so much cooler than restorations.
Those 16" motomags are amazing.

All of the above positive & wow factor comments....plus.
A padded seat for the monkey !!!! That's waaaay too luxurious , a monkey should be continually re-distributing weight , accidently getting their jersey caught up in other hacks handbrakes , handlebars etc , causing general havoc whilst moving all over the bike , & pushing , not just sitting down & enjoying the ride.
Tho I wouldn't have minded something soft to sit on before the race , bitd......
What is it with people going to all the trouble to make a unique & cool looking bike & not finish it off by putting a drive chain onto it , the chain is a _really_ important part of a bike unless it is a downhill gravity ride.
Hope your all having a HOOT !!!
Yes , I am jealous. So take all of the above with a few spoonfuls of sugar rather than salt.

That pit is the creation of our very own Chip from C4 labs. I knew he was working on it since last year. It turned out AWESOME. Glad to see him build a race bike instead of those gay freestyle bikes

Tons of freestyle bikes here this year. Some really cool stuff. Those mini motomags on that pit-hack must have cost a mint. Chip told me they were custom made on a CNC. Sick sick sick

The pit/hack is very impressive indeed but I'm also digging the Jad, the cool display of the Redline and Hutch, and the black CW is sweet also. Looks like an awesome turnout.

Lou - the Trick Star Pit was there!
Chip's sidehack was jaw dropping. In fact it played with your head. It was so realistic that I kept wanting a see a 20" but I knew it was a 16"....AMZING!!!
In fact, I go to Rockford thinking my stuff is clean and nice - I am always way off. There are some true artist and people who take this show to a few levels above my abilites. I don't go there thinking I am going to win anything - I go to see the website come to life in a real life event.
You come to VintageBMX site all year long - sometimes a few times a day. Take the trip to Rockford next year. You don't have to bring a bike but man - you will wish you did.

I'll throw in the offbeat observations.
when you drive into the park, the pits were all along both sides of the road. with the track to the left. pure asphalt perfection. shocked me since i was last in rockford in 1990 and it was dirt and clay, lots of sliding. not fast straight line exactness.
the kuwahara display caught your attention to the left.
up past the pits was the vbmx section and driving to the parking on the far side was like trying to navigate the cabs in a big city. you had lil guys on mini's swooping every which way and that. definitely built the excitement on the way to the parking grassy area.
the pros were buzzing about. they are ripped intense masses of muscle. and they milled around in little groups. very accessible and cordial with the kids. i was super impressed with their trackside finesse. a stump?hauser? seemed to be the most polished PR man in the group. and it was intense to see Bubba blast around the track.
sun was scorching in the bleachers but the whole backside of the the track was a little pond lowland and trees. the smell of BBQ brats, burgers and hotdogs galore. mmmmm.
heading to the vbmx area. it felt weird to recognize some of the bikes so well, guess i spend too much time gawking at bikes on this site. i had to ask lots of folks if they were such and such which was a little embarrassing. everyone needed their avatar on the lapel for easy recognition.
meeting Hal and Bill to say thanks was a priority. bill was way busy orchestrating so i left him alone but hal took the time to have a freindly chat.
Todd Lyons had the famous new PKs sitting out front. he is as cool in person as he is on these sites. charismatic and down to earth. he's like the guy you wanted to hang out with at a party when you didn't know anyone. instantly felt like a fun old friend. much respect to what SE is letting him do for vbmx. was that PK hanging out in the back of TL's tent? kinda looked like him but i felt a stooge to go asking.
instantly recognized Tim's bikes and saw him about but avoided talking to him right off. in the back of my mind i was worried he'd jump into a discussion of politics which i didn't want on a splendid BMX trip.
Jeff U. looked like he was having the time of his life. once again I avoided bothering him with trivialities of the past because he looked like he was having an awesome time just chillin.
i did about 10 zillion rounds looking at the bikes over and over.
met a couple of folks that i knew would be cool like KIW and PKripped. had a long chat with PKripped's boy about Rush. you've got one way cool kid, Alex.
the vendors were well stocked. lots of gooses at great prices. if i'd have driven over in a truck, my judgment would have been seriously impaired as well as the pocket book.
saw a set of 175 reedy pedals at one of the vendors. neat to see up close as i've only ever seen you guys drool over them on this site. not 175 bucks worth of cool for me to ride around though.
there was an older couple that had lots and lots and lots of cool stuff like mini LG. they were super fun to BS with. think they still see us 40 somethings as infatuated lil boys. like hanging out talking to your grandma. glad to have those personalities around.
i've been laying awake for 2 nights trying to process everything i saw.
oh yah, Pat it was great to spend a couple hours out front of the hotel reminiscing. you always were the center of the party. glad to see you haven't changed.
nuff for now. thanks everyone for a great weekend event! especially billhalrick

C'mon, you could've bothered Jeff on the trivialities of his past! I bother him on the trivialities of his present (and future, heh) on a daily basis and he handles it pretty well.

that little side hack was trick as all hell - no doubt ! loved the machined motomags that was sick w/the brand logo and all - and a well deserved win as it was a center of attraction for the show ---- i, however, am glad it got its respects in that category and didn't steal away from the pit category where Lee's pit def. deserved its equal accolades ... considering it wasn't an actual vintage relic
chip's works are always quite entertaining and ingenius (bike stands and all) - i just wish there was a seperate category for works of the same caliber (Norcal's 26 motomag, chip's prior Haro master pit project etc)
i don't really even consider them retro, since retro is equipment made available --- i think i've mentioned this before, but i feel the need to mention it again since its obvious this hobby is growing even larger --- these one off works should have like an "OFF THE WALL" category all they're own -- hell w/a title like that, you -the site managers-, could even approach VANS to sponser and even offer a special prize for that winner, like a coupon for a custom set of VANS or so .... hell, if nothing else its a new sponser (everyone wins) that way they can be appreciated in the right context - purist and nonpurist alike would be content
oh and the hang was "as always" probably the best part ... 364 days to go
