so.......
id like to say that i have now been coming to this site for a bit over 3 years now, i was lurking through the summer of 04 when i finally signed up and got completely hooked. and thanks guys, cuz ive found a great bunch of friends here

a little about me
i have been riding BMX bikes since i was little, however i never raced on a track or completed in a real contest. growing up we didnt have the magazines available so when someone moved near me from north jersey talking about all the fancy bikes (skyway, thruster, hutch) we were all amazed.
the name three bar thruster always stuck in my head. i hadnt ever seen one untill 94 when i was working in a bike shop to pay for schooling... well that shop was in north bergen and was the home shop to braddock BMX track (james vincent bicycles). while working there, i had picked up a NOS 85 leftover quad from him and used it as a rider, i had also while working there came across a skyway t/a and a tri-power thruster. the skyway i got for 30 bux complete and the tri was 45 for the frame.
well, i had to build one of these bikes to ride around and since i always wanted a tri-power even though i had never seen one, it was only fitting to build it. i found some blue cycle pro forks, some red se bars and all sorts of mis-matched parts for it and took it for spins now and again. i was always more of a street thrasher so this bike mostly sat around.
now fast forward to 04..... i got married and am now finally settled in our home, cooper is 2 years old and i start to think about the 2 bmx bikes (not the one i ride) in my in-laws garage that id like to build up for him to ride one day. i bring the t/a and tri-power home, start cruising e-bay and the net to find parts to build them up correct. i find this site and OMFG... its on. i sit low for a while because i dont know if (a) id fit in, (B) i could really deal with the madness of it all. i start going to some shops and scoring parts and bikes and realize yes, the bikes are calling me.
anyway..... i join up the site and wouldnt you believe it, my first post is a "how much is it worth" post. i didnt get flamed, but possibly because of how my post was written i seemed to be accepted.
well enough babbling.
here is a pic of my first OS build after finding this site. the first re-vamp of my tri-power (my wifes rider)

and the main reason for this thread was to show off the newest incarnation of that bike. thanks to manyaxes and pjbaz and rcrscott29, i have a tri-power with the correct forks, i re-built my wifes rider with this cleaner frameset some re-pop decals and some changed around parts.

Awesome story, Awesome builds.

I am the same as you. Never raced on a track or completed in a real contest. Had the mags in 82, and had friends who had the PK's, Torkers, Race Inc, Skyway, etc. I went thru my fair share top bikes until I found Profile Compition Racing, and never looked back. Being in Vegas back in the early 80's, we had acres of dessert land that we used to make amature race tracks, jump tracks in our neighborhood.

After being hit by a car on my Profile in 86, I lost interest in the entire sport, and didnt return until

A) Had kids reach the age of being able too ride a bike. Being in todays world, Dad (Me) needed a bike so I could be present while they ride there bikes in the street.

B) Found this site while looking for parts for a 20" moongoose that the Univ Police inpound threw away in my dumpster out side of my shop.

After reliving some of the good ol days with riders who we use read about, and dream about being, that post on this site, and seeing all of the old school bikes I grew up on are STILL alive today, it brought out that little 80's bmx monster. (Thanks Guys )

I love Tri-Powers. I used to drool over the one window of my LBS back in the day. So that makes it my holy grail. That looks great love the story and the color combo. I have never seen the red/yellow stickers before.

Hopefully that will be my next project. Just need to finish the ones I am currently doing.

Cool bike, Brian. I'm envious. I'd give my left, uh, arm for a Thruster or a Profile, or a Pro Racer, or a GT cruiser, or a...........

Pretty standard reaction, I think thats exactly what happened to me. What we're we doing beforehand?

Nice Thruster.

Here's what she looked like when I brought her out of a basement and into the light...

Found in a shop (now closed) in northwest CT. Brian's right it is a nice clean frameset. I had never seen one in person till I found it. Then the guy gave me a price and I left it behind for a few weeks if you can believe that. I held on for a bit then traded to Manyaxes who traded to Brian. Funny how some of these things change hands isn't it?

Nice looking build as usual Brian

Very cool!!! It's cool building a bike as a rider and knowing someone else is going to have fun on it. Great job! Cool story too.
