But is it really? When is enough enough?
Why can't I stop collecting?
It's gotten to the point where I'm even building up 20" stuff. So many projects, so many cool bikes.
Well, I did it this time, topped the 50 bike mark.
This is insane. Mostly vintage, but now I've also got the retro bug. I'm not even into the 20", but somehow I've rationalized it.
What to do?!

You are one the first guys I want to profile for my column here on vintagebmx.
I know nothing about you, but you are insane! I'll be hitting you up.

Resisting is futile . . . go with the force. LOL
I started this game intending to build only 1 or 2 bikes yet I find myself finding more to build to the point of compulsive obsession.
Why do we do it? . . . because we can.

I'll need to join a support group soon - either to deal with my obsession with BMX or how to deal with the Mrs. after she's tripped over the umteenth frame.

"There's bike parts on the kitchen counter!! This is a kitchen, not a bike shop."
-- my wife's reaction to... well... handlebars I left on the kitchen counter after steaming some decals off.
And I only have 5 bikes right now.

I was talking with Igor last week after previewing his storage unit of very old nos vintage bike parts.
I got 3 NOS Brooks saddles from him at the local swap for $40, I talked him down from $60.
Mostly skiptooth stuff, I was hoping for a BMX score. I asked him how much for all of it (about 8 crates) and he scratched his head commenting he was not prepared to answer that question. I explained my situation and we both agreed that it was a 'disease'. Then he mentioned that he knew what the saddles were worth that I got, he didn't want to think that I thought he was well, stupid or something. So I'm working a deal on vintage sprockets, bearings, races, seats, hubs and lots of parts I have no Idea what they're for. Mostly in original boxes. I'm dumbfounded.

ive got tons more if anyone wants to see them.. i just realized i sorta hi-jacked this thread. (sorry)
maybe others can post their addictions as well.
by the way, these pix are a few years old. lots has changed in this hobby folks. everything you see above is nos. well, at least 95% of it is.
It was pretty easy to get nos stuff 5-10 years ago. thats when i was a busy boy. it got to the point where i enjoyed parts more than built bikes.
i still love seeing nos parts more than anything

Geezus I've got a ways to go, I started when I restored with my original 84 Profile about 2 years ago. Since then I have built 6 bikes complete and have a "fair" amount of stuff....but then again, my "fair" amount of stuff is um err chicken feed by some of you guys' standards.
No guests for me...this is my "spare" room

When reading through this thread I had a smile on my face thinking - Geez, I am not alone!
I am sellking off quite a few bikes out of my collection - yeah, I just wanted 1 or 2 bikes too. If I were smart I would have boght them complete and be a whole lot richer money wise, but so poor in parts. I love to go to the shelves and pick parts to build a bike.
Tone - I woudl like to go shopping there! May I schedule a personal shopper or at least a list of wanted items? It is pretty small I think... hmm - 1 or 2 bikes.... Dreamworld. Girlfriend thinks I am tweaked!
I have gotten way out of hand since ROckford last year. I went with 9 bikes - now I am double that (chnged out all but two of the 9) with completes and lots of frames sitting ready to build more!

this is probably not one of the 'TRICKEST' jmc dy's but there is a story behind it. its an exact replica of my best friends johns bike. i took alot of time gathering the parts for this build. it is 100% exactly the way john had it in 1985.
its all nos and he still has it in his living room. the original pike was stolen.
anyway, we win!

Killer stuff but I have to ask - what is the deal with those Xcaliber pedals? I have just one NOS one here in red - I was going to throw it in the trash. Are they something special? Notice I said they and not it, since I am talking about your two pedals opposed to my one! I just wnet and got it out of a pile of crap - I guess I will start the search for another one.
I idd it with one blue KKT - took me 2 months to find the match, it was at a buddies house locally. He also has a single red and black bullseye pedal.
