I know the pics aren't that good, but this really looks like a GT to me. I just got it on ebay, and my buddy picked it up for me and will be shipping it to me. He couldn't find a serial number on it anywhere. If this is an early GT, where should the serial number be? The end of the top tube has no stamping.

It looks a little like an 82-83, but could be an 84-85 too.. It is hard to tell with that picture.
The serial should be in the inside of the dropout if its an 82-84-ish. If it was an 82 the serial could be EX: 82195. That could mean August (8) 1982 (2) and then the numeric after it.

Thanks Brad. He couldn't see the inside of the dropouts, but there definitely aren't any numbers on the outside of the drops.

looks like a pre-84 GT to me.

All the parts fitted to it seem to indicate that it's not from 1982/84 , didn't GT make an exterminator (?) or some other weirdo name Bike in the mid/late 1980's..
I spose you will get to see exactly what you bought when it lands at your place , if the SN is stamped under the BB it is definately not an early GT....

There was a later (90s) GT that has the flat top tube end and can be confused with the eralier ones.
However I think that frame is old school.
Can't really tell if the forks are GT.

No serial on the BB shell, I had him look there. I agree the components don't look early 80's. It'll be a couple of weeks before I can lay my hands on it, so I'll have to be patient.

The components look a bit tired - yep.
Mind you the bars look a bit like Pattrson bars - lol

The components dont mean squat. Anybody can bolt on later parts to an older frame.
That the rear dropouts and the top tube make it look like an 81-83 GT Pro frame. It is hard to tell from the photo as to wether the forks are matching early 80's GT forks. The leg tubing looks a little too large a diameter to be correct.
Indeed, the serial number should be on the inside of the drive side rear dropout, as mentioned above. If there is a seperate 4 stamped there as well, that indicates a Pro frame. If the number is a 2, that is an Expert frame.

Mcam or Andy, did the 81 pro frame with the standard BB have the smaller down tube like the Euro-BB pro? I know they did away with the Euro-BB option on the pro's in 82 due to the standard only option. I never owned a 81 Pro frame.. Lots of 80-81 standards and 82 and two 83 pros..
That frame above looks 82-83...

Brad I agree, the frame does look 82.
I have a photo at home of an 81 Pro frame with the small down tube. I'll check and see if it has the small BB. I'm pretty sure it has the large BB though.
