I know this has been talked about before but I never paid attention to it until now, sorry. A couple years ago, maybe last year, Mongoose releast a 500 count Mongoose replica bike. I had heard that about half of them were shipped out of the USA to be sold elsewhere. Were they split by how they were numbered or just randomly sent out to the world? A friend of mine bought one and was going to keep it in the box but then he noticed the number (x/500) on the box was somewhere in the middle of the 500 so he decided he would build it and give it my son as a baby shower gift. After he built it, he looked at it closer and noticed the bike got put into the wrong box and this frame was number 004/500. Yes, he still gave it me. Anyway, are the lower numbers in the States and does anybody know who has numbers 1-2-3?

I think there was no rhyme or reason to what went where. the boxes for these bikes had no outside clue as to what the number of the 500 made was inside. The bike shop I got mine from got two of them in. one was reserved for me. of those two one of the boxes was damaged so the shop owner opened the box to make sure the contents were not damaged as well. Just in case there was a damage claim to make. but the bike was OK. That bike was 44/500. I took the bike in the un-damaged box. I had to peek through one of the hand hold slots with a flash light to find out mine is # 22/100.

I saw one on display at the Elysian park show yesterday. the number on that one was in the high 400's. so there are bikes with low numbers and high numbers in the states. I think it was just luck of the draw combined with where you got it from. I think there was a distributor in England that got a bunch of them and would ship them to anyone in the world that paid the money.

I know one of my local shops here have higher numbers... I am 99% sure he still has 497 still in the box. Another one that was high went off to Texas. I think they just shipped what they could but there are more out there still in the shops. Just like the Redline Squarebacks that did not seem to sell right away. There was one in POhio until about 2 moths ago at a shop still never opened... it ended up on eBay.

Cool items are just that. Cool - serial numbers? I am sure the low ones went internally.

I have #'s 310 and 79... I ordered mine right from Mongoose about a year ago.. Same place and those scattered #'s... Looks like they are all mixed up and you get what you get....
