Hello all. I seem to recall a post on here a little while ago where someone tried to install a Tioga Beartrap 2 headset into a Hutch cruiser, only to find that the headtube cracked as Hutch headtube diameters are apparently slightly narrower than usual.
Do Hutches really have slightly slimmer headtubes? And if so, what would be a good choice of headset? Many thanks, Bob

no, Hutch frames used the same size - BMX 1" - as most other BMX companies did (including Hutch minis). any tioga/tange, etc, headset with a 32.7mm cup diameter will work.

Say it ain't so! 'Cause if I was building a high-end Hutch (unlikely, but possible) that's exactly the headset I'd want to put on it.

Could be that the cup was off axis slightly? ... or maybe the head tube was off-round a bit from the welding if it was a NOS frame... I remember the local bike shop told me they had trouble putting the OMAS BMX headset into my Expert Racer when I got it back in 1982...
One of my Hutch frames has a piece of chrome plating missing and the head tube looks kind of warped at the top, possibly from installation related stress....

I have the same head tube 'chrome flaking' on my XL24 and my Pro Racer.
One of Hutch's nice touches - lol.
I have a Bear Trap 2 on my XL24 - they work fine.
