OK... it's time to move this subject over here from the Retro section, as I'm getting emails from people that had no idea about this until now.

I visited the Skyway factory 2 months ago, and had a chance to look around the dark depths of the warehouse. I came across more original T/A tubing from the 80's that was in pristine condition.

After a couple hour meeting with the owners, it was decided that we would have them welded up, and released as a "25th Anniversary" frame and fork kit, with the frame clearly marked on the bottom bracket as a "25th Anniversary" edition. This frameset will be made 100% using the original True Temper T/A tubing that was formed and cut in the 80's, and will be exactly like the early 80's standard size 20" Skyway T/A.

We are only making a limited number of framesets, and we are currently taking names for those that want to be on the "waiting list". All sales of these frames will be through www.ColoredTuffs.com.

To get on the waiting list, please send an email with the heading "25th Anniversary frameset" in the title, and I'll add you to the list.

In addition to this original design 25th Anniversary set, we are planning a new retro style, modern geometry T/A frame, that will be released in 2008.

I will be posting more news about the 25th Anniversary set this Tuesday.

Ed,

That is cool news! Do you think you could ask Skyway to build a 24" 25th aniversary replica of their old TA team issue cruiser for the people who don't fit a 20" anymore? I'd pay extra!

Thanks,

Mike

Will they all be white?
ColoredTuffs.com
Not sure if they are all going to be white... it depends if there are enough polished tubesets to get some chromed.....
That is something that we're trying to figure out still.
ColoredTuffs.com
...we'll be doing a 24", and a 20" Retro for next year...
IArider
will they be the same top tube sizes, or will they be 20.5 or 21 or 21.5"?

Hey Ed,
I sent you an email (from my work email) this morning. Hopefully mine is one of those you're refering to.

Hi Christian
Your jersey just arrived. You'll have it probably next week. Thanks!
Mr.BMX
Seems to be a LOT of leftover tubing at the factory being discovered.....last time someone went through the factory it was empty.

So, will the frames be "limited edition" just like the tuffs weren't ??? (many collectors are still pi$$ed at that)

;-)

24"er I'll take one. email sent to ya Ed..

Mr BMXer
The tubing has been locked in a container all of these years, so if someone said it wasn't there, they didn't go where I went. (it's not an area where too many people would have permission to go, AND it's infested with Black Widow spiders, so not too many employees want to go there either) It was pretty much in the same area where the Street Beat frames where found last year, outside the main factory building. These frames will not use new material at all, and will be a very limited run, using the old frame tubing.
And as far as the colored Tuffs, we're only talking about wheels made in the hundreds total, as opposed to the millions that Skyway has produced over the years. Skyway has made for us so far 200 blue wheels, which has been the largest amount for a colored wheel run, 150 red and green, 100 yellow, pink, light blue, orange, and 50 gray and lavender. It's certainly not a huge amount overall.

ed........
will the 24" be a reproduction of the limited 24" from bitd or are you talking about a new school ride with an old school flair?

id take either!

Any idea of prices. IS this just for the frame and fork set?
pquinnbmx
rumors were they sold bunches of that tubing, like semi trailer loads, to mexico in the 1990's. glad you found some hanging around
BMX2112
wow thats great to hear and great job digging around at the factory!
Sknight88
Ed does so much for you guys, and theres always some one out there bashin the guy............ Thaks Ed!

Mr Knight!
Thanks for the kind words... Guess what! I saw Pinky today out at Shoreham!!

The Retro 24" will be new-school all the way, with the old-school T/A flair to it.

Mr Quinn,
Yo Pat! I don't know anything about Skyway selling the tubing to Mexico.. but I do know that all of the tubing was cut and formed in the 80's, so the only thing that the tubing is good for is building T/A's. And I don't think that Skyway would sell the raw material needed to make one.....
Hope you're doing well bud!
Sknight88
Ed, so your in the ole neighborhood? Can you take care of that thing of ours, you know........
Was pinky racin? Get his ole *** on here.

It was awesome seeing Pinky!! It's been about 18 years or so since I've seen him last. Got to meet his son there too! Still a cool guy to hang with!

Can you give us even the slightest idea of price before we hop on the waiting list? Thanks~
monkeybiscuits
Ed,

any idea of the RRP of the anniversary framesets ?
thanks
Sknight88
Price is due out today, keep checking the web site. I know it already cause of some inside scoop and can say, its not cheap, but look what it is! Besides, what was that frame new back then? 350?
ColoredTuffs.com
Hi guys!

Today has been a busy day trying to catch up on emails and general business stuff. I have not sent any emails yet, and I need to leave in about 5 minutes to go up to the BMX track for tonight's vending session up there, so the emails will go out late tonight.

The 25th Anniversary original Skyway T/A frame and fork sets are going to be $500 each, and should be welded up rather soon. Skyway will have a production schedule for me in about 10 days.

As far as the color- we are still up in the air on if chrome is possible. We need to find enough tubing sets that are polished already, and we really do not have a number on how many sets that is right now. Secondly, we are still looking around for chrome platers, and cost.

It does look like the majority of frames will be white, however.

These frames will be 100% old-school geometry, exactly like the ones made up originally, all using original T/A tubing that was cut and formed in the early 80's. 18.5" top tube lengths only. These are EXACTLY like the ones made back then.

I will be sending emails out to everybody that is on the waiting list. We are selling 100 framesets on a first come, first serve basis according to the order in which people were added to the waiting list. If someone on the list decides to pull out, then the next person on the list will be pushed up to fill that spot, until 100 sets are spoken for. We have about 180 people that have emailed to be on the list, and now we need to see who still wants to be on that list.

We will start taking deposits in about 2 weeks.
I'll post more details later.

Just curious,
I sent an email to be added, but never received a response. I didn't know if I was supposed to either, but I would like to make sure I at least made the list. Do I simply wait for an email from someone? Including keeping an eye on the spam filter...
Thanks,
Dave Brucker

I love this!

But wait, aren't these "new" framesets going to ruin the fun of looking for an original T/A or devalue the originals even though they are to be stamped 25th anniversary?

(all tongue in cheek, all tongue in cheek)

I would love to get a hold of a new one to mate to the new Graphites that are collecting dust in the closet.

My buddy down the street bought a T/A frame and fork for about $160.00 back in 1983
lboorse2
I got my '83 T/A frame (w/a CW fork) for a cracked Hutch Hollywood F/F... of course, now I want another Hutch Hollywood, but I still got the T/A!

Ed, think I could trade a used vintage GT frame for a new 25th Anniversary T/A? LOL!!

be sure to check spam folders too!!!
(not that anything Skyway could ever be spam, but computers are stupid.)
avalanchefan
OH no , NOT the TGI Friday thing again ! Not to tell you how you're gonna dist. these framesets , but I'd say only 1 per waiting list cust. if you want another , then your second will be from the "back " of the line .
ColoredTuffs.com
...that was just a joke! No Friday's sales going on here with these framesets!
KCBMX
So any update on these? I am still on the waiting list as far as I know, but have the money set aside. If this isn't going to happen for me I will seek an original.

Don't get me wrong I can wait, just wondering if there had been any progress.
Chip
Ed, you got an E-mail from me as well, please let me know.
