So the wife & I are driving down the street next to ours at dusk yesterday & since it's garbage day today, the cans are out.
What do I see sticking out of the top of a can? A chrome, complete BMX bike. I told my wife to hold on & I slowed down to a stop right in front of the dudes house. I quickly do the check list scan......Bars.....nothing, stem.....it has some sort of stamp on it but I don't recognize it, forks......tapered....hmmm, cranks.......one-piece. Right when I was going to put it in park and check it out the homeowner walked out of his garage & stared at me funny. I have tinted windows so I'm sure he was wondering wth. I decided to drive off.
Iv'e agonized all day about that decision! I should of at least told him if I could take a look at it!
From what I saw it looked like some sort of early-mid 80's entry/mid level BMX bike.

If it's in the rubbish, i see it as "fair game" for anyone passing by.
Why worry what the 'previous' owner thinks about it, or the way he looks at you, surely it's just as easy to jump out the car and yell out (or approach) the homeowner, and tell him you want the bike....
NEVER "ASK" if you can take the bike, that always gives them the chance to say NO......ALWAYS "TELL" them what your intention is.......and if anyone still shows resistance, just offer them $10 for the hassle.
Of course they'll come back with "what? you're givin' me a measly $10 for my bike?", to which you respond "well, you were gonna get $0 for it in the trash buddy". ;-)
He who hesitates.......i think you know the rest ;-)

It was in the trash, shoulda just asked him if you could take it. I missed a chance the other day also when some guy rode by me with an old cruiser and skyways on it. I was so shocked to see it go by I didnt stop him to ask if he wanted to sell it. (Looked like a tweakers bike). We lost, but hopefully we both learned, jump on any opening, they dont happen often.

BMX11N = BMXIN without having to pay extortionate price of a full custom plate as our plates come standard with 3 letters 2 numbers 1 letter but i did have to pay for the colour and the letter number combination it would have cost double for full custom plate with all letters to spell a word.
I wish i was 11 again.

b, be more assertive, jump out of the truck and say "Mind if I take a look at your bike in the garbage?"
