Has there ever been a really fast BMX racer who was a VEGETARIAN back in the day?

Danny Oakley was supposed to be going to school to be a Dentist, that's kind of close. He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth though so who knows if he finished.

I've got a old friend who's a vegetarian.
He raced back in the day.
But I don't know if he was a vegetarian as a kid or teenager.
I just wonder if it's possible to be compettitive under that lifestyle.
I'm not a vegetarian and not up for a debate on what is right or wrong to eat.
But what I mean is............

Look up vegetarian atletes, there aren't many. Bob Burnquist is but skating doesn't require a whole lot of brute strength.

Scott Towne was a mediocre racer but I have been a vegetarian for 17 years (since new year's day, 1990). There is no reason a person can't be just as strong/fast/brutal with a vegetarian or vegan diet. I have never been preachy about my lifestyle but I can tell you when I eat vegan (no dairy, eggs, cheese, etc) I feel my absolute best. I made a vegan meal tonight with some fake (soy based) chicken, potatoes, pecans and Sweet Baby Ray's barb B que sauce that was so good! I literally just tossed frozed stuff into a ceramic camping pan and cooked it on the grill. Twenty minutes later I was at the skatepark and feeling good. Again, not preaching, it's my choice and something I truly believe in, but you do not need any animal products in your diet. And to make S'mores, you have to use marshmellows, which contain gelatin, which is made from boiled down hooves and bones. Just an FYI on that.

I think that would be vagetarian......anyway, I don't trust vegetarians/vegans...........lol, Go bless em though, to each their own.

Pure Veg since 86... and I will run/ride faster than Spike, play guitar/bass better, solve algebra equations faster than him, do more push ups than him and after it's all over... tie his old as* in a knot, force him to ride his Champion with clips and just for good measure, make him scream "In the name of all the animals, I acknowledge the error of my ways and I TRUST S.Bros, Towne and 66alfa implicitly and without apologies".

I'm with Scott. Been a vegetarian for 17 years, as well. More than half my life. I strive not to be preachy, in general, but the benefits to my own health, the lives of animals I don't eat and the infinitely smaller impact I have on the planet makes being a vegetarian a very easy choice, despite the fact that I loved meat VERY much at the time I chose to give it up.
I wouldn't describe myself as a wonderfully gifted BMXer, but I can hold my own, and I have no problems with energy levels when riding at either the track or the skate park.

I was a vegetarian for about nine years, and for about four of them a very active BMX racer. I wasn't especially fast, but that wasn't 'cause of what I ate or didn't eat.
About three years ago I fell off the wagon and am now a meat head.

Just so I'm not off topic here... I like meat but I also eat alot of veggies.

No meat here for ten years, I'm doin' fine.
Still eat all dairy, eggs and stuff like that though. Just no meat, which I never really did like too much anyhow now that I think of it. Buffalo chicken wings maybe, but it was the hot sauce, not the wings!
