I think i'll be watching... pretty sure.. but I should be in Fariabult right now.. racing tonight.. why am I not.. I still can't figure it out..
bnd
KOP, hey I've been following this thread for weeks now & what's the deal with you & riding/racing? Seems like your on the fence about the whole situation. Are you afriad of something like getting hurt? Ha sit been awhile since you've been on a track?
Iv'e got alot of friends who are on the fence & it's all good with me, they will get on the track when they are darn good & ready. I do have to say your missing out on ALOT of fun.

b.

I haven't raced since 1986. I've always went to the tracks to ride. Just never entered my mind to race. Now most of them require a ABA membership to ride. So that's when I thought i'd race since I have the membership.. Of course it's fun.

I'm still trying to get rid of all the trophies I have in the attic. I'll throw one in the garbage every few weeks.

But, I going to. I've decided on that. I can still ride, and i'm not afraid. My only fear is the tracks arent' hard enough these days.
bnd
Cool.
Here's what I did with the 300+ trophies I had. I pulled all the little plates off of them & kept them. Then I donated the bare trophies to the local track. Great for the big wheelers.

See you on the gate in 2 weeks!

Here are the details of the day from Rum River

This is the outline for the Rum River BMX State Qualifier Special events on Saturday the 21st of July:

Old schooler’s Race:

1) The cost is free – but you must fill out and sign a one-day waiver if you’re not a current ABA member.
2) It will be a three moto Transfer system which copies the current ABA transfer system. Moto’s will be hand written and gates randomly assigned. (riders are encouraged to respond – sign up early so we can have as much of this set up prior to Saturday as possible)
3) The moto(s) will be run after the 10X classes and will be given moto labels A, B etc. depending on the number of riders.
4) In the event a semi final is needed they will be run after the main events and prior to the pit-bike races.
5) Awards to the Top 3 riders

Pit Bike Paluza Format:

1) Reg. is required and will only be excepted from 10:30 – 12:00

2) The intention is to form 4 classes; Girls class, 3 boys/men’s classes of split age groups based on registered riders for the day.

3) It is for fun… Awards will be given based on sponsorships for the event!

4) Pit bike races to be run after the mains are completed – qualifying rounds will be run first if necessary – followed by main events. Moto’s will be hand written and posted by Main events…

5) We will attempt to run a Pro-pit-bike race… Depending on riders available. (Pay out planed)

Daily Activities order:

Mark,
What are the qualifications for the Old Schoolers race? Is it 20", 24"? Do you have to ride an OS bike? Thanks.
-Bill

And for KOPs benefit - do you need a Full Face helmet? Pads? Air in your Tires?
Guest200901
Bill-

Guess I didn't add that. You can ride either 20 or 24, it's all for fun. As far as KOP and his dammmnnn helmet situation...

We need to follow Rum River's Guidelines

From thier website:
-Long sleeve shirt.
-Long pants.
-A helmet. The ABA highly recommends a full-face helmet. We have some "loaner helmets" for beginners to use. A lot of times, a good, inexpensive helmet can be found at garage sales or in the pit area of your local BMX track.

Any enclosed shoe is sufficient. Tennis shoes are suggested.

So from I can tell it is only "Suggested" that it be a full-face

Classic!!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I wouldn't care if it was a mixed class 20" & 24". I'm guessing 24" would work the best, but I'd like to see Big Rig on an OS 20" or better yet, Pit Bike.

WDS, are you going to make it to any of the races this weekend?
Guest200901
It would be cool to see some old schooler get on a pit bike in the Pit-Bike Paluza event.

To bad Peterson can't make it that day, cuz it would be like watching the big wooly bear on a circus bike.
Guest200901
I just realized KOP won't even see that post because we are on a new page. Suppose we'll have to explain it all over again in a day or two
wds
What races are going on this weekend? I've not been paying attention to that. I have no plans this weekend, so it might be fun to just come hang out.
I do think I'll show up to Isanti on the 21st. I think my 24" counts as old school (early 90's S&M w/ some parts from the 80's & some NS parts). Sounds like a fun time.
-Bill
And I DO own padsets, long pants & shirt and even a FULL FACE helemet. I got that all covered.
Heir Vendt
ok...

Races tonight are??? and directions

Races Saturday are??? AND directions

Isanti's track is??? AND...well you know.

Thank you.

Thanks Mark! I think I'll try to show up at Fairbault tomorrow.

WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
Jay, MC's website has a link to all the track sites. That should get you the info you need. Check your PM's about tonight's race.

Bill, if you have that bike ready, you should race with us on Saturday.
mikkopeters
Conleynootsac is rumored to be cutting his DG down to a pit for me to ride.
wds
I'd rather have my Floval up & running, but I'm still about 2 weeks out on parts for it. The old S&M should get the job done for now though. It'll run good enough to have some fun.
See you guys sat.
-Bill
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
Mikko, just remember this, nobody would come to the circus if there weren't any clowns.
mikkopeters
And remember clowns and clown companies saved BMX.

Wendt rounding turn 2 at the annual Clowntown race. Eye of the tiger:

Is there any races this weekend. If so where and when ?
mikkopeters
I heard there are races, but I am not sure when.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
Jeff, I think the races are up north this weekend. I heard you don't need pads and a helmet in the northwoods.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
Okay Faction members, Rockford is a must, but I'm thinking we may need to think about a trip to the Vegas Nationals. Keep an eye on this thread:

Springer, how fun would racing be on this track?
bnd
I've got my schedule hammered out if anybody cares........

I arrive Weds evening the 25th, Thursday I'll put my bike together & go practice at either St. Cloud or St. Micheals. Friday, we are heading up to Russ's parents villa up North to fish all day with his family. I haven't seen his parents since 99' so it's going to be GREAT!
Hopefully I won't be too hungover to race on Saturday.
Saturday after the races??
Sunday race, pack up the bike, Monday morning dropped off at the airport.

Word to the wise, if you guys that race 41-45 cruiser see Russ & I get together I would steer clear because we like to take each other out for fun & on purpose. He put me on my head once in 99' & again in 00' before I got over on him & whipped his ***. I'm sharpening up my elbows & making sure my health insurance is good in Minn. Just giving you fine folks a heads up because it's going to be on between us in every corner.

Dammmmnniit Bruce get up here! You missed another AWESOME day of racing!

Faribault was the 1st stop yesterday. The elder class was more like a MInnesota thread Vintage BMX reunion!

Left to Right.... KOP, Bill (wds), Loren, Scott Kraker, Boecker, Springer, Lynn Austin

Boecker

Springer with KOP rubbin his back!

Bill (wds) his 1st race back!

Cracker was hallin all day!

KOP was simply AMAZING!!! overall 2nd place!

Springer is still sratching his head about what happened with KOP beating him...

KOP's sock puppet number plate should be worth big bucks someday!

Much more to post later. Makato was last night after Faribault, and it ran late. NOW, I'm headed out the door for Elk River's state qualifier. I'll try to get more pics and video up tomorrow or maybe later tonight.

Peace Out!
Guest200901
Oh, just an FYI: should anyone ever stay at the Springer household...

BEWARE: He has a killer/Evil cat that had me cornered in the bathroom 2x lastnight...

Trust me, a 45 yr old man whimpering like a child cuz he's backed into the corner by a 5 lbs cat, really is not a good image to go through life with..

Awwww, my sweet little Cleo. Isn't she cute...

Where did all my hair go, I checked my helmet and I did not leave it there...?
B. Apold
Looks like you all had fun!!
B. Apold
KOP, good job on your return to bmx. Once is all it takes. You'll have a NS 24" before long. The NS bikes launch waaaaaay better than OS/MS bikes with the long TT.
wds
I don't think KOP needs help launching. He had a hard time keeping the bike on the ground. I think his tires were inflated w/ helium or something. And it should be noted that KOP not only got 2nd in the main, but got that from the worst start ever. Just before the gate dropped, Lynn Austin lost his balance and fell over on Jerry. From that Jerry made his way to the front, riding right over Springer.
It was an awesome time & I totally look forward to racing w/ you all some more.

Elk River ROCKS!!!!

What an awesome weekend. Lots of racing and nobody got hurt. Driving all over the state of Minnesota chasing FUN and boy did we find it. Scott Kraker your family is absolutely wonderful. Your wife Jamie shared some great stories about your BMX addiction. We found out that your real name is in fact "Chucky" not Scott, nice front. I think we have a new additon to the crew and its Sidney Kraker, she looked great rolling around after E.R. races and she is hooked for sure. We patiently waited for Apold to show his face all weeknd but nuthin.

I am most impressed with Doug Knollmaier's vision to put Elk River back together again and make it fly. The track is absolutey awesome. It is fast, smooth, not super scary technical and a good length. It has a little old school taste to it and I encourage everyone to check it out.

It was great seeing some new faces at the track.
Paul Cater, Jay Wendt, Bill Sympson, Jerry KOP, you guys ROCK!

Thanks everyone for a great weekend!
B. Apold
Sorry guys, had to swap a coil pack on my daughters car...

KOP, you've been holding out on us man.. Time to put away the tricks and start racing now. With first time great results you might as well start hammer'n it out...

Paul, I agree, having gone to Elk River this past Thursday (the night you didn't show up) I had a chance to ride it... Great track man.. D.U.G. made an awesome track...
Rydjors Dark Sider Black Sheep 1%'r
2 new guys this weekend!? Jay Fish whisperer Wendt AND Jerry "sock Puppet" aka KOP!? wow, I should have downed 2 or 3 painkillers, slapped my Kmart 'Goose together and made the show!

ps, Brad how was Kansas?
Guest200901
All I have time for right now is to say WOW! This weekend was LONG!!! BUT, it was fantastic!

and this... Minnesota BMX is FULL-ON and moving forward! I have gone through over 1000 photos that were taken over the weekend, and between the familiar faces that traveled to ALL THREE races in two days, the Old Schooler's that just showed up out of the blue, the families that traveled all the way from up north and the fact that DOUG K. and the Rehbein's crew (plus others) struggled to pull the Elk River track out of the an almost complete shut down... what can you say! This state ROCK's!

Pics and more coming tomorrow...unless I can't sleep because of the dammmmnnn tossing, turning whimpering I'll be doing from the loss of sleep caused by the black and white "house pet" incident.

Once again THANK YOU MNOS's for showing up and hanging this weekend. I have NEVER met a GREATER group of people! That goes for "Lucky Chucky's" wife too! (I can't believe Chuck doesn't tip the scales with all that home cookin' he gets)
