Excellent interview Q-tip!

Man, you sure do have a way with words! You must be a Journalist or something..

You know up until reading your MC interview I had no idea you started racing after I did. I thought I was a late starter compared to some of these guys on here. You sure accomplished alot in a very short time!

I remember Sandberg as always being a clown, staying lose and joking around off the track, but get him up on that gate and he was all business, he success with the sport proves it.

Riders in BMX tend to look at the riders older than them for tips and advice, a learning curve so to speak. I did all that with the Conleys, Christensens, and Theos of Mn. BMX.... Being older than John, he was one guy I looked at that was younger than me that I watched and took notes from.

I very powerful, fast rider with no major weaknesses, consistant and totally determined. I always tried to make it a point to watch Q-tip's mains, because that was a fun and exciting class to watch with lots of great local talent at that time in BMX.

I remember John would grunt down the first straight, he was like the "Monica Seles" of BMX, but without the porn moan, more like a weight lifters Puffing! HaHa

I too don't know how different things would be if I never got involved in this sport. BMX still runs through my veins, only at a different speed. Great insight John!!!

This place is Great!

I can have a bad couple of days and get on here and get all cheered up.

Great pic's Boecker! Show your Penis, I mean face more often!

I am totally in for some golfing that weekend..Springer, Conely, Mikko, Gary, keep me updated!!

It looks as though this site is falling apart in other sections. Adults fighting like children. We'll have to keeper strong on here. After all, Mikkop is right, BMX started in Minnesota!!
B. Apold
Scott, thanks for posting pics... Cool and hey cool frame.

Hey Mark, I'm really starting to like you man...
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
Great photos Boecker.

There's something wrong with that GT Brad. How can you run that NS #3 on a classic Haro number plate?
mikkopeters
Scotts right, BA should be running some Haro stadiums #'s.
mikkopeters
WBL, you going up to Brainerd?
B. Apold
Hey look "Mr. WBL" I've tried to buy a real Haro number from you, buy noooooooooooo! j/k Love ya!

BTW, its not a NS #3. It was a generic "lightning bolt plate era-HARO #3 and I've had it since 1982...
Rod Byrnes
Minnesota nice guys. A bunch of crap. Great pic's Scotty. That frame rocks. I look forward to a round of mulligan's in Brainerd/ Spam town what ever.
B. Apold
That picture of Rod is killing me (hands on his hips).... "excuze me sssssir, have you sssseen the chain for my SSSSSSSSSSE Quad Angle? Jeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzz!
B. Apold
MC, how much for the C-yaaaaa frames? 20" expert...
John Sandberg
Are all you guys/gals in your 40s or somthing? What's this crap about golf?

Didn't we all make a secret pact around 1976-82 that our ONLY interest in golf was to sneak onto a course with our bikes and rip it up?

Sheesh.

I'm driving in the cart with Conley, and I'll bring the potato gun.

Jeff: Thanks, your words really mean a lot to me.

Q-tip
B. Apold
John-

Boecker, Miland, Lynde, Rob Tracy, John Tribbet, myself and a few other non bmx guys did some golf course action ourselves... Scott, why don't ya share that night with everyone... OMG!!!! It was insane.... I've never seen a golf cart ride up a tree (vertical) and have the tree snap in half from the weight.. I think it got wet too and a little sandy.... I still can't believe we did that.

mikkopeters
BA, were a few barley pops involved in the "golf outing"?

ROD, you better be going with up to Brainerd...
B. Apold
Mikko-Pete, Ummm, I don't think we were drinking. At that point (Summer 11th/12th grade) Miland and Tribbett were the only booze hounds in the gang. I never really drank until after high school... Wasn't my thing.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
Mikko, it sounds like Brainerd is the must attend OS event. I hope to race and show some bikes. Maybe I'll bring that Haro #3 to display too.

I'm not a golfer, so I'll be hanging with John and Mark. That potato gun sounds interesting.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
John, that photo on the Hutch has got to be the coolest photo you have.

I don't know where to start about your racing years. You were always "The Guy" I watched and tried to emulate. I think we raced (I should say you raced and I filled the gate) a few open classes, but I was just getting started and you were much more experienced.

I read these stories about the earlier days (79-82) and only wish I got started earlier to be part of that time. The 83-85 years were good but it sounds pale in comparison to the beginning years.

I look forward to riding and BS'ing with you again.

Thanks for sharing the memories.
mikkopeters
That IS a great pic, you can almost feel how fast he's going.
Rod Byrnes
Hey John, I use to hit Highland Greens at night on a frequent basis. That #16 sand trap double was insane. We also use to play a little BMX Polo action on that coarse. Hey Faction, I was at my parents the other night and it's now fenced off. The sheers are a callin. Make it so!

That is a great shot Q-tip. That has to be the last berm in Waterloo Iowa 1983-84.

That was my favorite all time track, plenty of oil to keep the dust down. Ha
Gary Walton
Just to clarify the non-golfer issue. 35 & Over Open tournament rules dictate that all participants must be in possesion of either golf clubs, potato / paint guns or cold beer. No hands free cart riding.

What day are we going to do this? We were talking about a OS BBQ saturday after the races. Can anybody make it late friday afternoon or early saturday. I'm open to suggestions.
mikkopeters
I could make it for Sat.
Paul Springer

Gary, if there is any type of golf emergency I can be there when needed.

Hey guys,

Iv'e been reading your thread since before your gathering, great reading!

Which got me thinking........I looked up when the Minn. national is & then called my buddy Russ. I asked him where St. Cloud was, he said about 11 miles form his house. I then asked him if I came out to visit & race, would he be willing to get back on his horse & race too? He said sure.......so, I am looking to get the time off of work & if I can get a cheap flight I'll be coming to Minn. for that national weekend. What would 41-45 cruiser look like?

Bruce
Paul Springer
So far there would be Bill Nelson & Paul Springer (me) for sure. If some others can come off injured reserve we may have a few others. It will be our pleasure to have you visit our national. It will be cool to meet you
B. Apold
Hey Bruce, that should be a pretty good class. Most are turning 41 this year ) old school guys, so the class keeps growing.....

Hope to see ya at the race. I plan to at least watch.. I'm still 40...tick tock, tick tock..

Glad you come on here and read about the MN bmx past life. WE don't argue on this thread. Were a HUGE family with great respect for each other, even though Mikko Peters is a free style guy. LOL!!!! j/k haaahaaaa... Even though your not from MN doesn't mean ya can't post here... EVERYONE is welcome...
katotrucker
Hey Bruce come on out to St.Cloud its a great track with alot of great people.

If you see a guy about 6'8 thats me.

There should be all most a full gate both days.

Bill Nelson
Gary Walton
Count me in for the 41-45 class. As long as I can stay healthy, I should be doing a lot more racing this summer.

Paul, Bill, Jeff, etc, are you guys rollin' up to St. Cloud this weekend? I'll be there.
Paul Springer
I am not going to be there, I am going camping with my family down in Lanesboro, MN. I am planning on hitting Isanti/RUm River next weekend if anyone is interested in building a class there?

Thought I would post this stuff here this time. Would like to try and find one of the tracks in the OSNS series to let MOB maybe play at one of the weekend events for some free entertainment.

Tonight they had a concert at the Paramount Theater in Porktown.

Checkout my youngest boy's tee that he found at the Salvation Army for a buck!

Is that Rydjor Bike Shop pride or what!

Have some video clips to post from tonight when I get them edited.

Very nice bike, I believe it is also for sale if anyone is interested!
B. Apold
There's Peg lurking in the back ground

Love the T/A bike... I love red rims. Didn't she wanna sell that bike??
Gary Walton
Mark, does MOB wanna play at Brainerd? Perfect backdrop to a saturday night BBQ. Also, there's a huge battle of the bands up here on the 4th if they want in on it. Lots of young girls in attendance.
Guest200901
I thought about your race for them, but not sure if all 4 boy's would be able to make it. I can talk with them and see.
B. Apold
Anyone know how I can reach Christine (Skyway owner)?????... She needs to sell me that red Haro plate for my FMF.....
J.T.
Brad,

Sent you an E-mail.

Here's some shots of what I had at Rehbeins before they got dusty...

I think Peg's gotta little thing for that Skyway, she poked her nose in there a couple times there
B. Apold
Love the squareback... I bet you didn't find that in MN did ya?
J.T.
Yes I did get the Redline frame and fork in Duluth of all places, 1975 but it was produced in 1974. TBH it is one of the most preserved frame and forks that I have seen, just take good care of all my stuff over the years. No polishing just kept it clean all these years. The dropouts are nearly perfect.

The stem is a prototype that never made it to production. Notice it is straight to the clamp vs. the production has the extra brace seen on many stems like the Mongoose gold or Cook Bros.
