What an awesome weekend, you guys absolutely rock hard. The turn out was great and the weather was flawless. A HUGE thank you to Doug for an awesome Winter BMX season, Doug and his staff are top notch! Maddi (7) has rekindled her bmx excitement and that is what is most important to me. Emma's (5) parts should be coming from UPS today so we will have her mini built tonight. Rod, I want to talk to you about that kids helmet you have.

Brad and I are talking about taking the kids to Maple Plain BMX track on wed. or thurs. night if anyone wants to meet up.

Logan & Rain, it was great hangin out with you and your pop's this weekend. Rain, you had a tough class and did good. Logan, I think you need to seriously keep takin more pics, I want to see that one of Joey all crossed up over table #2.

That pic rocks!
Anyone see the 12x kid that cased those doubles on Sat? He didn't go down, but man it sounded like it hurt. He kept on rolling too! Cool kid.
The best was the little guy with the mongoose helmet that was cruising around the track in what I believe was his first race. Cool!!!

Looks like I missed some fun on Sunday!!!
Rod Byrnes
Yes, it was tons of fun. MC, you also have accomplished a ton. It did seem as though my hair cut was a little short. It will grow back.

Rockford? You can stay back in the room!

Man he sucks doesn't he? What style and grace! I still have yet to see anyone even come close to this guys riding abilities around here.. Its just insane how smooth he really his and on the tight jumps at the barn. I found his old orange frame leaning against a barn door Friday...

Big congrats to Paul, Matti and Rainier on a great finish.

Scott, did you race Saturday?

Paul, I'm thinking Wed or Thur. of this week we'll head to MP and ride. St. Michael hasn't been touched from what I can see, rode there last night. Sand trapville...

Imagine him looking at that pic in 20 years and wishing he'd kept that bike!!!

That pic says it all!!!!

What you don't want to be seen in public with me?

I want that Mongoose helmet sticker! I love watching these 1st time racers. There was a kid at Faribault last year that rolled up with a 400lbs K-Mart special and kicked everyones butt.

FYI

From Peter Q's e mail

From Jack (I don't know his last name). Lives in North Mpls. I don't know how he got my number, actually.... He said he was at Rebeihns Sunday.

I don't know if you guys remember, he had gotten his Avent cruiser stolen in October and I saw a kid riding it, snapped a cell phone pic and sent it to him. Well, he calls me to tell me he saw some OTHER kid riding his cruiser yesterday when he was at the drive through at
Burger King. He gets out of his truck, stopped the kid and
questioned him about the bike. He starts talking about getting the police involved. The kid kinda freaks and they play tug-of-war with the cruiser... The kid lets go letting Jack tumble to the ground with the bike. The kid then JUMPS IN JACKS TRUCK and takes off! Also taking with him Jack's Hutch Mini that was in the back!

Jack just wanted to get the word out in case anyone sees anything or in case anyone at the slideshow by chance snapped a picture of his Hutch so he could make a proper police report.
Guest200901
I can't believe that! Jack you have had some crappy luck!

I did not get any photos of the Hutch Mini. Sorry. JT may have got some though.
Paul Springer
I vaguely remember JT poppin a pic of that thing.

That little guy had been to the last 3 practices and is totally hooked on BMX. I tried to catch him after his race, I wanted to see his face when he got his first timer trophy. He is cool little dude.
Guest200901
I did come up with a new OS Calendar Idea this weekend

Jack, I meant to say Hi and catch up with you yesterday but I turned around and you were gonzo.

Mmmmm, lunch ladies! I like to think of them as my Hot Pocket Girls. They are a great bunch!

I had the honor to finally meet Peg this weekend! Mike's wife has to be a weee bit concerned about another woman if his life..

Peg if Beautiful!

Mike stops every once in a while during the day to talk to her, and pats her seat....

Them axles need to be cut down to race Peg at Rockford [Yamaha Gold Cup flashback with the hacksaw]
B. Apold
Someone took a picture of it on the table, I remember seeing the picture..

The owner of the Avent is some Mark guy that races... He's real good too.

So did Jack get to keep the Avent? SOmething smells like fish here... I hate thieves!
B. Apold
Sweet Mikko... love it!
Paul Springer
Mmmmmmmm, purdy wine colored suede! Peg is a beauty!
Rod Byrnes
I rode her (Peg) a while back. She's smooooth.
mikkopeters
Thanks BA!

Too bad I am such a bad owner and ran a rusty bolt seatpost clamp on her. And Morey, that long axle is for kickouts into ankle biters and the like. I'm leaving both of them alone.

I love this bike! If you ride her once you'd know why she has a name, why she stays in the house and sleeps in Isabella's room and why I wouldn't sell her for a whole pile of greenbacks. The day I saw her in that Schwinn shop I knew she was special. She was all beat up and was left outside for many years...

If any of you are looking to build a sweet ride, buy an old straightbar frame, find some 26" BMX forks, a Sturmey drum brake and some MX bars. You won't regret it.

Thanks for the pics Conley! And I do pat her on the seat from time to time.

Long live Peg!

Sorry no picture of the Hutch.

Yes, the little Mongooser was at practice and totally afraid of the gate. Would always wait until everyone went to the first corner then would roll down the gate. At about 8:00 we had him lined up at the gate doin' starts with the other kids. He fell a couple times but just got right up again! That all made our night!

The stolen Avent Morphius Jack Nabbed belong to Mark Brander. He is old school with tons of photos from BITD.

Well speaking of Flyin-Lo Jeffery Moe...I happen to have a pic of that SAWEET Race Inc. of yours!

My wife just talked to Doug and the girl they hauled off in the ambulance yesterday is OK with a mild concussion and a black eye. She went home yesterday . I saw her hit the ground her body started to shake then she went limp then someone said she has no pulse and wasnt breathing. I am glad she is ok.
Guest200901
Great to hear! I hate seeing that stuff happen. Glad she's ok!

Once again great job with the pics and video MC and JT!! Those were some really cool bike you guys had on hand there.

It's great to finally see "Peg" Mikko..Can't wait to meet her in person. I'll show you a picture of my "Peg" when I get the chance, both truly great rides!

It was a great weekend of weather, looks like you guys had alot of fun with the racing, booths, BS, and Springers B-Day. Paul Did you save me some cake!

If this is any example of how this summer is going to be, bring it on, I can't wait...

Just to let you know the Brainerd track is being worked on daily as far as I can see. They took apart the old track., Gate, lights, dirt, buildings, bleachers, ect, and are relocating them to the new area just south (1/2 mile) of Brainerd. I'll keep updates if possible.

MANNING-You and Howie were missed this weekend!

Sandberg confirmed he is hoping on making it to the Brainerd weekend (something about the smell of Pine, is a V-i-a-g-r-a substitue for him) So, break out the clubs for Springer, the Lite plastic bottles for me and Howie, cuz we are arriving that weekend!

Want me to pick you up for the Fergus Falls weekend on the way by?
bnd
Mark,
Russ was planning on coming Saturday but ended up working all day, he was bummed. Do me a favor & keep after him on joining you guys sometime, riding gathering, ect. He really is a great guy with a ton of OS history. You still have his e-mail?

Looks like your event was killer. Maybe I'll come up & visit this summer. Maybe.

Looks like Peg was breakin lotsa hearts again....
Guest200901
BRUCE-Yep still have his email, and he is now in on all the newsletters I send out. To bad he couldn't make it though, but there is 9+ to go!

Would be great if you made it for one! Keep me posted on that. We'll make the out of stater's even more welcome!

Ndprts4hro - Peg is a heart breaker! My 13yr old even thought it was cool!

This would be Scott WBL's Redline he had at the OSNS on Friday. His Hutch 24 I posted earlier in the thread. have a few more to post with his original parts later.

Amazing to me that this was just sitting at his parents all these years!

Awesome event pics guys! Too many masters lately to keep up on everything I want to participate in.

I read every word of the last few pages, but sadly I have retained nothing. I was laughing so friggin hard at that story, that I about fell out of my chair! That is just way too funny to be true, you made that up man!..... Sorry Jack, but I am still crying with laughter.....that's as good or better than Mildew being left at a truck stop! Heck, it rivals standing on JD's front step in the rain after falling out the window, and over filling the pool!

Part of me hopes it isn't true, ...but the other part of me can't wait to hear the rest of this story!...lmfao! (albeit it should probably land in the MN thread for archiving purposes, and content! )
Heir Vendt
I think Jack needs a taser or some such device...poor Jack.

"Taser him Jack...Ta-ser....heh heh-heh heh...that would be cool."
mikkopeters
Scott, I am looking forward to seeing that Red Line in person. Frigging flawless!!!
B. Apold
Mikko, that Redline of Scott/WBL is sooooooooooooooooooooo fine man... Its everything a build should be.... and then some.

WBL, where's my #3 LOL!!
Paul Springer
Scott WBL your redline is awesome, these pictures rock. To think that is your actual ride from BITD is incredible. Now that you have a NS redline cruiser just goes to show your one loyal dude to your brand! Can you still fit in your uniform?
Guest200901
Here we have Rodney's SAWEET Quad!

I am having major flashbacks looking these bikes this close up! I need to get out more.
Paul Springer
Rod, you have some sweet bikes in your collection. Have you thought about what your going to bring to Rockford? I tell ya, this site has really brought some great guys together and I consider you one of them Rod (Dr. Kar).

Funny story, Rod while filling out his sponsor on his ABA race sign up put down Geritol & Drakkar. The announcer calls out while he is racing "Rod Byrnes sponsored by Geritol & Doctor Kar". I nearly fell off my bike laughing while we were racing...

HA! Rod actually wrote that in there?

So, you and Moe are writing in, Sponsored By: "My Loving Wife" then? Cuz, if your not paying attention, that's what their saying!
Paul Springer
Moe is sponsored by his beautiful wife
and I am sponsored by my lovely wife.

Wednesday’s 12 with Mack_O_Roni

Mr. Manning…
I remember the Manning’s as being EVERYWHERE! Anytime you showed up someplace, their they were!

Last summer when we were in Brainerd, this guy comes up to me and say’s MC, MC Hammer? Mark? I’m like “Hey how’s it going”. So, embarrassingly I say “Who are you?”… I’m Jeff Manning, remember my Dad Howie?

Anyway, the Manning’s were another dedicated family, who we all enjoyed, and am really glad with today’s technology we are all able to share Howie’s excellent photos!

Getting to know Jeff again years later has been a great thing!

Here is a rare and classic shot. Howie and Jeff in the same photo....

This photo is awesome! (Jeff #6)

This one too! Jeff #6 at the Grands....

Pretty sure this is Rochester

Name: Jeffrey Scott Manning

1. When did you start racing?
May of 1979

2. Where was your hometown when you raced
Columbia Heights, Mn.

3. What was the reason that you started?
My dad had a big influence. He always rode and raced motorcycles. He used to pick me up after my Kindergarten class on his 125 Yamaha enduro and we would go straight to place called “Pecks Woods” and ride through the woods on all these trails. I always wanted to race motorcycles, but my parents raising three kids could not afford it. I was always having my bikes fixed up to look like a Dirt bike.

One day ( When I was thirteen) I was walking through a “Holiday Village” and saw this magazine laying by the book rack and I picked it up and started reading it. Low and behold it was none other that Bicycle Motocross Action. Started looking at it and I could not put it down, I knew thats what I wanted to do, not only wanted, I Had to do! I started racing the next year!

4. What was the Highlight of you’re career?
Making all but two of my mains at Nationals. Probably the biggest was making the main at the World Championships in Indy with 200+ guys in the open class and finishing 4th.

I can’t forget all the cool people I met along the way, and the great friendships that were made.

5. What teams did you ride for?
BJ’s Bike and Ski ( Bill and Jean Cecil) and Hutch B Team (Factory Support)

6. What was the highest State rank you held?
#18 in 1980
#6 in 1981
#1 in 1982

7. When did your BMX career end and why?
I took a break after the ‘82 season to heal up a broken bone in my wrist and enjoy the rest of my Senior Year of High School. I started working for a major printing firm in 1983 and was so busy I really didn’t have time to race anymore on the level I was used to competing at.

8. Tell us about yourself now, and where you currently live
I currently live in the Brainerd Lakes Area. I have three beautiful children, Alex 13, Andrew 11, and Olivia 8 from a previous marriage. I’ve been working in the Printing business all my working day’s and am currently employed at a large firm in Brainerd Mn. I rode bike and Motorcycles on and off over the years and am now reuniting with old BMX comrades that I haven’t seen in many, many years. Its awesome!!

9. What is something that you learned from BMX?

For me! Discipline, Discipline, Discipline! I played a lot of team sports before BMX, but none of them prepared me for competing in an individual sport. If your late for a race, don’t change lanes in traffic without looking. Don’t be a day late for a 3 day National! Being from the Midwest, your chances of getting a good Factory ride are pretty slim.. Have respect for others, how to deal with failure and success, and that what you put into something you usually get in return. I learned that whether you are representing yourself or Sponsers, your actions can have a long lasting effect on other people. I love BMX!!

10. Tell us one funny story that happened during your career.
There are quite a few but some I can’t mention. Hotel stories are the best!
There was this one time though We were ( My cousin and Sister) heading to Rochester for a race that we were already late for and without knowing it Redelsberger calls my Parents house to tell them that the race isn’t in Rochester its at Brooklyn Park. So my Dad jumps in his car and starts after me like a bat out of hell to tell me the news, and he finally catches me, tells me what is going on, so we turn around and start heading back and then notice my Mom on the other side of the hiway and she is now chasing us to let us know that Redelsberger called back to say he made a mistake and the race was still on in Rochester. Next time I saw DaBerger, I punched him in the throat.... Boy, if we only had Cell Phones back then! HaHa

11. What was your favorite bike from back in the day?
I raced Laguna GT, Robinson, and Hutch. Although I liked them all, I’ll have to go with my Hutch.

Bikes that I didn’t race, I would have to say I always loved the look of Patterson’s and I always loved the workmanship of the Schwinn “Sting.”

12. Who were your BMX heroes?
Scott Clark was my first Pro Hero.

And of course locally there was this guy named Dave Christensen. When I would go to Bjs bike shop, all that Bill Cecil would talk about is this Christensen Guy. So for months I couldn’t wait to see this “God” of Mn. Bmx. I remember when I first saw him I couldn’t believe how big his legs were. Truly jaw dropping!
