I think the magazine cover is Will Skurto (sp) in the Pro-Neck uni. I think he had a younger brother that was fast too.
Dave on a GJS, that's classic. those bikes are awesome. I should have keeped mine, but the drop outs were creamed. I bought it for 50.00 and sold it for 300.00. I had fun riding it while I had it though.

I'll be there on Friday only. I can bring my old uni & helmet. No racing for me on Friday. I'm just going to hang out and BS.
Plan: bring 2 bikes for sure (maybe 3), the uni & helmet, and possibly a photo album if I can put one together.

To help cover the expenses of putting on the OS Meets NS series, I have created a few Old School items and set up a store
>>>>>>>ENTER STORE HERE<<<<<<<< This is the cover of the 2007 Calendar, and have chosen some of Howie's "creative" black and white's prints for this.
More items, and a colored calendar will be added later on
Thank You Mannings for allowing to do this.

Miland, John, Dave C. and I were all at the race together. It SUCKED weather wise!
The entertainment was not lacking though. Dave managed to leave McDonalds with a mechanical Ronald McDonald, with 100 people watching, and took it outside and put it up on a 20' rock formation out front, before the Manager found out.

I raced that JG Garonzik a few times. He'd always try the elbow routine, but didn't work out to well for him, good rider though. I remember Scott Stouts name, but didn't remember him being fast like John and JG.
I didn't race any of those guys to much because I was 7 months older than most of them. Cool picture of John. I like the Hutch dud's picture of John... Post it? John interview must be coming soon..

We are going to mix it up a bit here….
I sent out an interview sheet to some of the new school tracks to get their side of things now, and where things are at current time.
This is Rum River BMX. I have known Kevin less than a year now, and have learned that he is SO driven by this sport, it’s unbelievable! His and my way of thinking are very comparable when it comes to wanting to see Minnesota BMX grow in a healthy way.
Kevin, his wife and new staff pulled Rum River out of a major slump, just last year. From the things I had heard prior to them taking it over, they had fallen victim to the sad, but true “word of mouth†reputation that a lot of tracks, businesses and people encounter sometimes. Thus, people not giving them a chance to prove themselves, after taking over an operation under a “Black Cloud†of gossip.
I was at their big weekend last year towards the end of the season, for the first time, and was amazed that I had even fallen into believing some of the stuff I had heard. I was clearly wrong. These people, much like MANY of the tracks here, were EXTREMELY friendly and helpful to everyone. Other than a software glitch (that I have seen countless times at a few tracks), the biggest weekend of their season went down very smooth and as planned.
This year Kevin and staff have received some Grants and assistance for building and track soil improvements. It’s going to be a great year for Rum River!
2006 Track:
Name: Kevin Riedemann
Title : Track Coordinator
Track: Rum River BMX
1. How Long Have You Been Involved With Your Track?
I have been riding at Rum River BMX for about 3 years… My wife and I just officially got involved with it last year in June.
2. What Got You Interested In Being Involved In BMX?
My oldest son wanted to try it… We rode 3 times and the rest is history...
3. How Long Has Your Track Been Running?
Our track has been around for about 7 – 8 years depending how you do the math.
4. What Are The Future Plans For Your Track?
Our plans are to continue to build our local rider base the best we can and work to make our track a National level track where racer can call us home... or there home away from home when they travel.
5. How Do You Feel Kids Benefit From This Sport? The kids learn so many life skills at the sport it is amazing. But like all sports there are some good and bad influences that can be seen, all in all though the sport is one of the best that I have seen. The kids really gain self confidence, strength, and a sense of self worth.
6. Do You See BMX being in the Olympics, a major asset in helping Our Sport Grow?
I think it could be… I don’t control the marketing of how it will be presented to the public but if done correctly with the correct sponsorship it could help us grow. But like most of the most successful sports it starts with grass roots campaigns in all the little towns across the USA. We as members of track association have the biggest power to promote and bring in riders. All it takes is a positive attitude and determination.
7. Is There Anything Else You Would Like To Add?
I think that it is vital that we all work together to continue to help the sport grow. Continue to try new things and never, ever run down another track. It is just bad for the sport, instead of ripping on them go there lend a hand, offer advice… constructively. Remember nobody is running a track trying to make money, at least not around me. So the usually the bottom line motivation is that they want to help the kids… Which is the best reason of all.

Awesome this came up tonight... I have known of Kevin through the Winter and had the oppurtunity to introduce myself last night (Friday). Kevin, Rod, Mo & I spoke with Kevin at length last night at rehbeins for about 20 minutes. This guy has so much energy and passion for this sport it is truly infectious. He has so many creative and incredible idea's for his track this Summer that I am going to make an extra effort to get there. Kevin if you read this, YOU DA MAN! It was my pleasure getting the oppurtunity to meet and speak with you last night. On top of that he rocks hard as a track announcer!

Awesome interviews Jerry (pipe) and Dave.
That Dave Christensen guy is pretty cool fellow! Dave get some of your memorablebeliea (Sp?) out to share with us!!
I have some stories about that (DC) guy, but since he has small children I won't repeat them!
Mark Conley and I go waaaaay back, he was already into photography when he snapped this picture of me at the ripe old age of 2 1/2-3. He knew that some day we would race bikes and stumble along a web site called VBMX..Thanks Mark!!
This bike is two tricycles (Coaster Bike, No Hutch Areo speeds on this thing!) welded together.... many thanks to Howie Manning
This picture was taken around 1967-68.. 10 years later there would be racing in Minnesota. Awesome Thanks MARK!!!!

Yes, Keven really has the thinking cap on. It's all about having fun with him. I look forward to the outdoor events this summer. This will be a great opportunity for Jack to get peddling again. (my six year old son)

------------------ATTENTION OS'ers-------------
I need and accurate count of who is going to be at the Barn with who's displaying what and when. Saturday and Sunday are the primary display days.
Friday is mostly for the one's who can't make it the other days. Doug is wanting the main part of this to be Saturday and Sunday
I think this is what I am understanding so far:
PAUL - 1 bike/Friday-Sunday
Mike P. - 2 Bikes/Sat. & Sun
Brad - 1 Bike/Friday
Scott WBL - 2 bikes? Friday
ROD - 2 Bikes?/Friday and Sunday
Jeff Moe - 2 Bikes?/ Saturday and Sunday?
RL - I need an accurate count and space needed from you. Send me an email with your info.
TED - I think you said you were not able to make this one? Bummer! Gotta get a Sting setup sometime!
SANDBERG - Are you going to be around at all with some of those sweet UNI's?
KOP - Are you bringing any of those Haro's?
Boecker - What Ya got to offer?
SPACE is limited in the dusty old barn for this 1st round, so please communicate clearly with me about this soon.

A Message From Kevin R., Rum River BMX, Isanti:
I am not a member of vintage (at least not yet) so could you please up-date your post with my thanks...
I am truly grateful for the kind words and thanks that you and the others on the vintage site had to say about Rum River BMX and our team. Riders and their families are the building blocks for the success of our sport. The Rum River BMX track association is being built by people with similar ideas and a passion for our sport. Nothing that has taken place at Rum River BMX could have happened with out the help and the extremely hard work of our team and the contributions of its supporters and volunteers. For those of you who choose to visit Rum River BMX this summer I can only promise you that we will have worked as hard as we can to make your experience enjoyable. Our track is not the greatest ride in the country but it is solid and we have fun while trying to make all families feel like they are at home. Thanks again and I hope to meet many of you at events this summer...

Now this is what I'm talking about!!!
These photos were sent to me from Gary Walton. Gary is a BIG part of Brainerd BMX, as well as a sponsor of my site (
www.actiongraphics.net ). I met Gray at Mankato's big weekend last year, and seems to be another person that has his heart into this sport, like the rest of us.
Gary was from the Northland area, that many of us (down south) did not know much about. Jeff T. is from that area as well. So am greatful to learn more about the other parts of the state whenever I can.
I know Gray is a member on here, and is friends with Sandbooger as well, hopefully if he gets a chance he can post a little more info about these photos, other than what I can get from his email
Thanks Gary! (please pop in when you can)
This is Gary, Azusa Raceway...
Brett Bermel Photo from the original Brainerd track...
Pete Voss before there were tracks in that area...
Gary and a couple of guys from Michigan who he worked with at BMX Plus! (Now there is some MN history there kids!)
Roscoe Ridng area....
Now we're talkin! (it would seem those guys from the North were Bunny Hoppers!)
