Great Scot!!!! JC Jay!!!, that's a hard hit from the looks of it. So let me get this right, Chucky actually quit racing and stopped to assist Jay?? Is that were Bill S. was too? I don't see him in the photo were Chucky is slowing down. Was that first moto?? Pretty cool of you guys to stop.
The first time I raced back in 2001 some guy in our class crashed hard right before the first corner as I was coming around going into the 2nd straight, and I watched him go down. I've raced long enough as a kid to know, that wasn't a good crash, so I stopped too--- Actually we all stopped. I don't remember who was all racing or if they still race...
Jay, buy an FMF24. I mean, how could 400 OS guys be wrong??? LOL!!
Get well mate!

Ray told me he had some good shots of that accident.
When I heard Jay go down, it sounded really bad so I started to slow down. Bill Sympson had stopped and I came around the turn and stopped on the tabletop to help them out. At the time, I had an idea of what happened, but after looking at the photos, Jay really took a hard hit. If it's any consolation Jay, (like Moe says) you've got your first crash out of the way. Get well my friend!

I would have stopped too. You can tell Sympson is certainly aware of whats going on right away from the picture. Jay, imagine what that would have been like if you were strapped on??? I like clips and I'm all for them, until you crash. I've crashed with them on my MTB and went to toe straps right away. That's just me. I bet they are awesome out of the gate though...

We were talking about clips and that is one of the reasons I'm not into trying them. I use them on my mountain bike but I'm still not in control on the BMX bike yet. When I can ride like Boecker, Lindsay, or Moe then I may think about using them.

Yeah, that's me in the black & white jersey. It's a retro S&M Bikes Jersey.
To me it looks like I already shut it down in the third pic. My legs are in my default "coasting" position. By pic 4, I'm turning my head to slow down & turn around.
As soon as I heard Jay go down - which was really loud, it sort of took me out of the race mentally. I figured Bill or Scott would be taking this moto anyways, so I turned to check on Jay. The track crew came over at that point & did their job, then Scott stopped as well.
Those pics are bad. I'm really glad Jay is ok!

I'm doing much better. Thanks for all the kind words!
I'm pretty sore still.
I had the Sinz chain tighteners on it. There is so much flex that they can't keep up.
Jason set me up with the YESS tightener. I'm having issues fitting it. I just can't work on it at this time.
I'm home from work day 2 now. At least I can work from home. I've been to my buddy who's a chiro. He asked which car I was playing tag with? heh. Seriously though he said I wasn't bad at all, jut really bruised up. I've said it before, but I can't stress the 661 body armor. I have a decent sized hole in my jersey by the left shoulder. The armor is barely scraped. We're older guys. Be safe. Scott's advise probably saved me from more serious injury's. I'm very glad I had it on. Thanks again Scott.
Equipment rundown and how it performed:
Fox helmet - visor toasted along with air vent plastic. (They're shipping me new ones already)I have a concussion, but I'm a tich more suseptable to those anyway. I didn't get the full face-into the neck though. Thumbs up there.
Fox Racing pants - No holes. They are padded to a degree. Knees are bruised. Again Thumbs up.
661 body armor - double thumbs up
Shadow Gloves - minor tear, but I have only 1 scrape on my middle finger. I'm amazed. Thumbs up
I wasn't planning on crashing. I just wanted to be with my friends racing. And I really enjoyed that. You guys rock! It was fun being able to root all 3 of you on in the main.
I'm going to be back at the practice soon. I'm not racing again for a little while. But it's fun to be out there.
Thank you.
MC - If you don't mind, would you be kind enough to send the high res photo's to my other e-mail PLEASE? thx

Mike, I hope those photos don't make you reconsider joining us on the track. Not all starts end up with the rider looking like a lawn dart.
I can't stop looking at those photos. Jay, look at where you took the bars to the chest and where your shoulder hit the ground. Without that body armor, you would be in a lot worse shape.

Scott- no way, I'll be out there this winter. I am mos def going to buy some armor though. Holy [I tried to curse] those pics are burley.
The worst crashes I have had have been due to mechanical issues. Exploded freewheel shell, broken off handlebar, broken stem...

2008 is going to be a cool year. Besides the racing part, I'm looking forward to the new faces that will come out of the woodwork next year.
I just talked to another fellow 80's racer today and told him to come and check out the action. I said he must make a showing at the Condo Classic this winter, at least to meet everyone. While we were talking, he said he wished he still had his Patterson and Free Agent bikes. Then he breaks out the "I still have a 20" Tahoe in the garage attic".

BIG NEWS From Rum River BMX!!!! -The Rum River BMX Association is excited to announce that it will be hosting the 2008 Minnesota Star of the North BMX games. This event will be an American Bicycle Association (ABA) sanctioned race held in conjunction with the Minnesota star of the north games. These games are designed to promote sports involvement at the “grass roots” levels and provide athletes from across the state a chance to challenge themselves as they go for Bronze, Silver, & Gold. The games will host both individual and team competitions. We are working with different organizations to provide a long term and continued yearly presence in the games and potentially an opportunity for you to represent Minnesota in the State Games of America. This is another exciting opportunity to bring Minnesota BMX tracks, the ABA, and the games more main stream in the state through the coverage of the event. Look for additional details coming on this exciting event and other news from Rum River BMX over the winter months. Please continue to visit us at
