Nope, nobody is familiar to me.

But what a great, classic picture. Where did you get it, Rick? That is the earliest picture of BMX I can remember seeing. It would be an excellent addition to THE HISTORY OF BMX. Rick? Elvis (if you and I are still conversing)? How can we do that, assuming Reilley says it's okay?

Here is another interesting historical thing: A couple days ago I asked Marvin Church who first modified a Schwinn Stingray with straight top and down tubes, a higher crank hanger, and 6 1/2 inch Diamond cranks. He said that it was either Rick Twomey or John Palfryman's dad, but he didn't know which one. Which narrows the mystery down a little. This, too, should be added to the HISTORY.

And here's another interesting point. Marvin said he still has the red, white, and blue bike that his dad made and he raced...when? Would that be 1973?
RAMO
Not a clue here.

I know I had my Schwinn chopped and pressed to accomodate 6 1/2 inch cranks in 1973 by Ben Holt.

What does chopped and pressed mean in terms of early bmx schwinn modifications?

You know, the History of BMX is a most excellent idea without a doubt.

I want to know which one of us is in the middle of that dust cloud?

All of us "old timers" were doing that same exact thing at the same exact time in our own neighborhood field.

I do not know the boys in that picture, but I do know all of us fit the profile!

Someone call the number in background, just for fun!
I can't read the area code but the number is 457-7737.

Purucker must be riding an early Torker when they built them with the twin BOTTOM tubes. Either that or he's hot doggin' his sisters bike. I'm assuming he lost this race and luckily in doing so changed the design of BMX frames forever, since what he had didn't work.
Check the right arm of the kid center frame and furthest back. He looks like an MXer getting out of the throttle because things are about to get real sketchy for a couple seconds.
Classic photo.

My dad chopped my Huffy (ha!) back in '74. He took out too much from the center tube (riser) and it was like riding a balance beam. Kind of handled like one, too.
King of Pipeline
That is quit the action shot also. Looks like quit the mob scene. This so classic. Look at those handlebars.

Thanks Randy!

John Pudrucker is the infamous "John Wildman Palfreyman Jr." Everyone has mispelled his name for the last 37 years. Rick says some the guys may be from Canoga Cycle Center, he will look at it closer, and answer later. More than likely is is Dryer Brothers track, this is not the Malibu County Club track. More later.

That explains why Purucker sounded familiar. It wasn't the name, it was the face!

Thanks Rick and Patti...

I'll send him the pic and he can probably name everyone else..

I THOUGHT that guy looked like JP!
Reilley1
From what I been told by some of the road bike crowd, Mr St Henri did a short documentary about cycling in late 69 early 70. The footage included road, track and other forms of cycling including some BX.

I'm hoping i can track the person or the movie down. It think it would be pretty exciting to see it.

Rick and Patti, any additional info?
