Haven't Had A Drop Of Alcohol in 25 Years.....
April 5, 1982 was the day I came to the realization that I did not need to do what the rest of the guys were doing to have a good time. That was the day I said, "No Thanks" when one of them offered me a beer at a party we were at.
It has been extremely amusing over the last 25 years and I am sure the next 25 will not disappoint.

That's amazing Ken, congratulations. I found myself getting out of control a while back, and quit. Stayed dry for a little over a year. I'm drinking again now—but only in moderation, and on a trial basis. If it starts to get out of hand again, that's it.

Chicken, today at lunch
quote:
I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and **** my head
Hang out with the living dead
Snort white **** up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need
I've got the straight edge
I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch
I've got the straight edge
Congrats, Ken!

If drinking was getting to be a real serious life threatening problem for you Ken then congratulations
on staying clean sober.
I've noticed that serious addicts never really change ,
they just swap one addiction for another , how many Vintage BMX bikes <insert alternate more healthy addiction here> do you own & just won't give up
We all have our weakness's , vices & needs , keeping them all under control & balanced is a very hard line to walk.
I've been addicted to adrenalin since I was 12 , possibly earlier , I can't & won't ever give up the chase for it & the buzz I get off a score , as long as I can move & breath , I'll always be looking for that one last blast.
Alcohol & processed chemicals have _nothing_ on what your body can produce for you if you treat it right.

My parents and grandparents belonged to the International Order of Good Templars. We never had alcohol in the home. Among their Swedish friends either you drink 3 martinis or you didn't drink at all. I always wondered as a kid why no one had just one drink. So my brother and cousin were alcoholics and their children don't drink. It must be genetic or something. I do occasionally have a drink socially and offer it to guests. But, it isn't a big deal to just have a soda. Good for you Ken and all the others who choose to be non drinkers.
p.s. Shouldn't this thread be in the Cafe?

Way to go Ken as well as everyone else.
My name is Nick and I'm an addict and an alcoholic. 13 years,7 months and 20 days ago, I began this happy trail of my "NEW" life. Kicked a $75,000 a year Coke habit and was a raging drunk.
Today, I have 4 wonderful kids in my life and an absolutely wonderful and supporting wife of almost 9 years.
HOWEVER, all I really have is today and for that I am utterly and truly grateful.

Props to you man. My dad finally gave it up on November 25, 2002 after a lifetime of abuse. He is 79 years old. The past 4+ years of his life has been his absolute best.

23 years for me. Alcohol is what screwed me out of BMX. I regret it to this day and wondered what I would have done if I hadn't went sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
