since Bob Haro is going to be at Rockford this year, I thought it would be cool if everyone posted some of his art from BITD. lets see the old Grab-on kid, and the BMXA drawings here.

Good art , Tuff forks. I have one set of Bottema's with the with the same cartoon drawn welding , no short inside line one the inside gusset , they also look a lot less cartoony in real life.

Matt has all my BMX mag collection atm , so no new scans of old stuff for a while..

I have some old motives ads in BMXA mags, I'll scan some.
The Red Baron
Third issue of BMXA. As far as I can tell, it's the first published drawings in the magazine.

COOL STUFF!!!

Haro's drawings were absolutely, undeniably COOL.

I'm serious when I say this: Haro drawings made newbies (like me in '79) want to race.
rob_lewis
DaveC, those are incredible!!!! Color me jealous!

oh man..
is it just because this is our era that Haro renderings get cool-juices flow'n?

Every time I see cartoon art in an ad or what not, in my mind it is always judged in relation to a Haro rendering...

...and the best the other work will ever be is 2nd best.

Is it just me?...I'm sure not...

I like various use of line width in all of his drawings. Also, how he could make wheels look like they were spinning...

Greg_Hanna
My best bud in Jr. High and H.S. had a drawing style like Haro's. I was soooo envious and still am......I can't even draw a staright line!!!
In 84 or 85 He won the draw Foobar contest in BMX Plus or Super BMX, got a Mongoose Pro Class and some other goodies.

I wore the Haro designed Max long sleeve shirt
to my first day of 7th grade back in 82'.
I thought I was so cool! LOL!

This is a good spot to say how cool it was of him (and Piant) to graciously pose for this gushing pimply-faced geek...(me).
Mike Welsh

Quick, who can tell me where Grab-On grips were made. Without looking at an old Ad.

The winner gets a cookie.

Walla Walla, Washington
..more useless information wallow'g around in my head.

..gee I think I've got it..What kinda cookie?
or01bmxr
Fergie is correct.

Yep, Walla Walla, I lived there for 14 years. Great place to live.

Grab-On: a company that had it going on, then became just a provider of Nautilus foam grips and Bic pen foam pen holders.

Oatmeal raisin coming your way.

Bump

I found this whilst scanning an old Action Now mag Jan 81 issue....

Signed 1980 , kinda sums up "the look" at the time ,
& just probably just before Bob started his own label...

I was beyond B-day cakes at 15 but my Mom took this Haro image from my magazine to the cake decorator and totally surprised me...it was tough to cut into a great piece of art.

Can't believe it is 26 years later...man how time flies by!
bmxmom
cool stuff. such a distinctive look. is that all?
hollywood763
what about old motives ads?
I'll dig for some.
Kip
Those drawings Gork has framed would be sweet to get copies made!!! I would buy a set. Good Vintage fundraiser material possibly, with Bob's blessing that is.
Jet Black
I'm really pushing it here , I scanned this 1 x 2 inch photo @ 600 dpi from the Action Now magazine's 1981 Summer guide to coolness....

Haro T shirts....

There's a few more Action Now photo's in the Vintage Freestyle section....if you haven't seen them.
