WHEN: Saturday only - May 12th
WHERE: Oak Creek BMX in Roseville, CA. During the ABA NorCal Nationals
WHO: West Coast Vintage Collectors who can't make it to Rockford; this one's for you. (You East Coasters and Central dudes are invited as well!)
WHAT & WHY: Bring your bikes to display, meet other collectors, swap & sell parts, and vote for “Best Bikes of Show†in multiple categories.
Last year, we had over 125 bikes from all over the West Coast. It was a such a success, it HAD to become an annual tradition.
Later that night (approx. 7:00pm) at the unofficial home of the first few ABA BMX Museums - PATRIOT BIKE SHOP will host the Awards Banquet (as voted on throughout the day by spectators and fellow collectors). Pizza and pop included; courtesy of the Barrette Bros. & Redline Bicycles.
Custom Awards brought to you by REDLINE. Last year they were cool; this year they'll be GOLDEN. Literally.
AWARDS GO TO THE FOLLOWING 8 VINTAGE BIKE CATEGORIES, and handed out by BMX legends and Hall of Famers in attendance:
* Best of Show
* Best 70’s Bike
* Best 80’s Bike
* Best Freestyle Bike
* Best MonoShock
* Best 26†Cruiser
* Best 24†Cruiser
* Best 16" Pit Bike
NEED MORE INFO? Contact: Scott Barrette @ PATRIOT BIKE SHOP = 916-961-9646, or go to gork-graphics.com
For Directions to OAK CREEK BMX track, go to ABABMX.com
See you there - Saturday, May 12th.
Fun stuff last year....but that plastic bike winning best of show was a disgrace. With so many people putting their heart and soul, not to mention money, in to a build that kind of thing shouldn't happen.
Anyway great to see the event back again.

I have not even mentioned this untill now. but that little episode was one of the things that took the wind out of my sails when it comes to how much money and effort I'll put into Going to shows. Someone had a good laugh getting thier friends to vote for that bike. But those of us that drove 500 miles (or more) to be there just to enter the show and and give the public a look at the fruits of our hard work did not get the joke.
As of now I am still undecided about making the trip.

That being my first show, I was happy just to hear my name called at the awards announcement as one of the top three (ok, so there were probably only 3 retro bikes there total, but it was still cool.) I was totally shocked when I heard that bike called as best in show. There were some incredible bikes there that should have won that. Hope you decide to make the trip Sod.

SIDEHACKS?! You bet -- from the sounds of it, there will be 3 or 4 more hacks. Hopefully more. Last year there were 12 hacks; the biggest hack turnout since the 1981 Littlejohn-sponsored SoCal Hack Series [held at all of the last good downhills].
...
The hack racing in Roseville was definitley a highlight last year; I just watched that main event on the ABA DVD for the first time last week -- man, what a show. The crowd was so in to it.
...
Calling all hackers -- Roseville, Ca on May 12th. Be there.

And Mike Redman's call:
"DO IT ..DO IT"
classic comedy right there, although Jon doesn't remember the rest of the day...

Gork, Why don't you have a Under 25/30 and a Plus 25/30 class. Get more younger riders on them. Each hack could have 2 different teams plus maybe Jon won't knock himself out again.

SOD -
I'm leaning towards going. I could actually make a road trip to this one. Perhaps I could be the Mark, to Ken Pliska's Ironside and drive my van.

I am thinking about making a two night bonzi run from Socal to Roseville (Grad of Ike Jr High in 82!). I have a company van witch means gas is free. I can load the hack on the roof and I am thinking about two other rides. But I would need someone to go with me? Leave Friday night and return early on Sunday for mothers day. Shot gun could bring one or two rides and may have to help drive home Saturday night/Sunday morning? Any interest in Socal?

Aw geez! Thanks fellas! But really no worries. My plans for Roseville are very fluid at this point and could go either way. So if I fail to make the trip it would be due to lack of time or money. Nothing else. I had a blast last year and have been looking forward to this year. But so far my year is not working out as far as "attending events" go. But I manage what I can.

Concerning last years' "BEST OF SHOW" prize -- i was thinking we could change it up this year; where ONLY the actual collectors vote on the "Best" bike (just can't vote for your own). This would elimate the chance of any sandbaggers or ballot-stuffers.
Sound like a better way to determine the "BEST of SHOW" ?
