In the 80s I was coming into my own as a racer and having a little success even nationally. I was, at the time, racing GHP products when at the Murray World Cup, Bubba Hayes showed up on a new style (85) PK RIpper! I HAD TO HAVE ONE!! My dad called our sponsor who was able to get us one of the very first one's to make it east. We put it together and headed off to South Park, PA for the national . . . I HATED that PK on the track. I put the GHP back together in out pits and raced. We continued to try the PK for a while and eventually sold it. I still loved the bike, but hated to race it. I ultimately moved to a Free Agent Limo which was the best racing bike I ever had.

Fast forward 22 years! I am getting back into the sport a bit . . . it all began with a desire to build a PK. I found one, believed to be an 86. It is together now and I have ridden it several times. I figured it might just be that I haven't been on a BMX bike in 20 years, but the thing is just not comfortable. Well, history repeats it self and I recently acquired a Free Agent Limo (89) and threw it together quickly with parts I had lying around. Bingo, ahh, comfort!

What is it about the PK that is so romantic to me that I don't enjoy riding it, but for 25 years, I've desired to own one?

Crazy sport/hobby we are in.

I hear you. Definitely had one of my own. My Redline cruiser. The one with the 6 inch headtube. Never in my life have I seen a bike with such attention to detail. Beautiful welds, sick chrome, even teh decals. Everything went together without any trouble. But that tall headtube just made it not ride the way it should. I know Stu and Greg won a lot of races on it, but they could on almost anything. Would still love to have one today just as a rider.......

I feel you on the PK, I got my PK loop in 85, and was never comfortable on it, still the PK is one of my all time fave bikes, but there just to small to ever be comfortable for me.
BLAZERBMX
Cook bros. and Blazers. Loved 'em to ride but hated that I couldnt jump 'em without crackin' 'em.

My Panda Pro Am. That bike was a blast to cruise around on because of the slack seatpost angle. It turned into an evil beast when I tried to race it though. The seat would hit me in the butt and pitch me over the bars. I got to ride Frank Post's panda in Washington at the Spongecake nats in 81 and his had the seatpost bent way forward. I wish I would have thought of that.

OM Flyer. Had to have one, in 1980, I purchased one of the first mild steel models, in blue, built it up with decent parts. I Never felt "right" on it. Tried to race it did poorly. I Kept it as a cruiser, then sold it for a couple hundred bucks. I think they are worth a bit more now LOL.

Thankfully 24s came out. Still ride one.

Ron S, I too had (still) a Pro AM bitd. That was my favorite 20, I am a tall hombre (6-6) and that layback seat post and steep steering worked for me.

My first "real" BMX, my purple Mach One. It was my first, it was familiar, it was purple. Even being sick of the color I could handle, but as I got more into freestyle I kept changing and changing stuff trying to get it right...

Then I got my Trick Star....aahhh.
