OK. Those that are close to me know that I have been working on this project for 3 years now. It's been a pretty rocky road, just to build up a stinkin little BMX bike. Whether it be a lack of funds due to a lack of work or that darn chrome plating disaster, It's been slow going. So tonight I get home from work and decide to bring the frame, fork and some other parts up from the basement shop to do a little assembly with some of the parts I have, no big deal right? I go down, grab the frame and head back up the stairs. When I get to the top I trip on, well nothing I think, fall and lose hold of the frame. Wouldn't ya know, it bounces all the way back down to the basement, 10 stairs worth. Oh and those stairs are concrete. I think it took 5 minutes for it to finally get to the bottom, and I stood and looked at it resting at the bottom for another 5-10 minutes. At this point I don't know what to do. Do I go get it or do I just walk away and hope I'm dreaming? Stupid me, I go get it. As I'm looking at the frame the tears start welling in my eyes, I'm not ashamed to admit that BTW! Why me! I just cant believe it! The damage? Well the obvious first of all, the powder is chipped all to hell. Both dropouts are bent. Top of the seat tube bent in some. Couple dings in the head tube and head tube decal destroyed. Downtube decal needs to be replaced. I thinks that's all. So I wonder, "W T F do I do now?!" I just wanna shelf the ******* thing! Kinda makes me sick to my stomach, ya know? How do you continue on with a project that has given you so much grief? Any advice, suggestions? Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!

hey race inc.
took me two years to get my DG ff after I paid for it. Now it's all done I love the bike, it has alot more interest to me than just being a DG. If you go on a holliday and your cards get cancelled and you have to struggle I garentee that's the holliday you'll always remember and laugh at.
It's what you do when things get tough that determines your character......... oh just throw it away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
only kidding, keep your chin up mate rockford is quite a while yet! I reckon you'll be happy you stuck with it when it's done. I feel your pain though. GET INTO IT!!

My sympathies. But the nice thing about metal is...that it's metal and can be fixed...with more time.
Here's a story for you:
A BMX bike BITD was the cure for my "tool temper tantrums." The very last time I ever threw down a wrench in frustration involved a beautiful frame. Sure as heck, that wrench bounced into the TT of the frame and made a large ugly dent. Talk about a reality slap in the face that made me feel stupid to the point of wanting to vomit.
Last time I ever threw a tool, even to this day.

Oh, man.
Race Inc, I hear you loud and clear. I had a similar heart-breaker with car stuff. I am restoring a 1969 Dodge Super Bee. I brought home an air vent box to clean up before installation. The box is moulded plastic with a metal butterfly flap inside. The metal flap was rusted, so I cleaned it up and decided to paint it, even though once installed, nobody would ever see it.
I keep cans of spray paint on a high shelf in the garage. It was about a foot out of reach, so rather than grab a step ladder, I decided to hop up and grab it.
So I hopped.
I managed to grab it for about a split second before losing grip. The can flew behind me and managed to make contact with possibly the most beautiful and obvious contour on the quarter panel of my 1966 Alfa Romeo.
I turned around to notice there wa a 1" deep divot on this contour, and about 2" of paint chipped off.
$950 dollars later, the car is fixed.

In three years time I'm sure you've already, but back away from it. Make a list of whats needed to finish the project and box it up.
I'll tell ya, 3 years ain't nothin, don't let it beat you.

Tears of Frustration
Not a new band or video game. Still like someone pointed out in the end it will now be more then just a project bike, it will be your Mt. Everest.
If it was easy reaching the summit it would not be the amazing journey that few have accomplished.
Prove to yourself you are one of the few.

Alright. I was away for the weekend, was nice to get away for a couple days. It helped me clear my head and get back in the game. Anyway, the powder was a total loss so I stripped it back to bare metal and see what needs to be done. I got the dropouts back into shape as well as the seat tube and all is fine there. There are a couple dings on it that weren't there when I had it powdered so I may have to send it back to Rod for more repairs (Thanks for the offer to help buddy, you did a great job on it the first time!).

Nic, Thank You very much for that offer, I appreciate it! The decals on it were the custom red and black ones you did and I bought two sets from you, so I'm alright in that department!
I want to Thank everyone for the advice. I also want to Thank those of you who sent me emails offering anything they could to help me, that was greatly appreciated, very big of you!!! I don't plan to back away from it. I actually have everything I need for the project but I just need to re-do the frame now and I can build it up and it'll be done!
So bottom line is it'll be done for Rockford, no excuses!!! Now where did I put that padding and carpet for those darn steps?

When I work on a project where nothing seems to go right, the best thing for me to do is walk away for a while. The discouragement goes away after a while and the enthusiasm returns.
