I just bought these GT bars off the bay. I was under the impression they were pro bars, which was my own deduction not the sellers. However they are different to all the other GT pro bars that I have...What do you guys think? Are they experts? I didn't think experts were this wide?

They are supposed to be NOS, not sure if they are. They have few nicks here and there although they don't appear to have been in a stem... The cross bar sticker is a little banged around. Either way I'm not that disappointed, however I might put them back on the bay and continue on my search for my last pair of early GT pro bars...

1984 or newer. But I thought knurling started in 1984? Hmmm

My cruiser bars have stamp.

They may have been NOS but I doubt those decals came on those bars.

I put the decal on my bars myself:

What do yours measure Andy? I wonder if I have cruiser bars? They look quite similar...

Then again, I have just lined them up again a set of pro bars that also have a stamp but no knurling. The bends are identical...However, they look about and inch lower and about inch wider (than the pro bars)....very wierd....

from memory my bars are about 27 wide x 6.5 H.

I know how you feel though - I hastily bought a NOS set of GT 'pro' bars of ebay only to find they were actually expert size.

Very nice bars, and early/unknurled, NOS but not pro.

I managed to resell them for what I paid.

Experts are at top:

I've got GT cruiser bars on my 86 24. Stamped and straight knurl. 28 1/2 wide. 7 rise. I have my GT expert's from BITD will dig them out, they were non stamped but.

Pic of my cruiser bars. notice the stamp is on the left side looking at them front on.

84, Those are GT expert size bars. The GT factory riders used expert bars on their bikes before cruiser bars were made. With the stamp and no knurling, I am gonna guess 1984 ? I think the knurling on GT's bars began in 1985 or 86. The first GT cruiser bars were the lower 5"x29" size with no stamp or knurling.

Thanks for the info guys...I actually owned a set of expert bars back in the day...so it is kinda nice to see another set, just don't recall them being that wide....I might have to build up my old Cook Brothers around these bars....you know, you get 1 part and think, wow, I used to have that part on my "insert bike here" and then you build an entire bike around a hub or a brake lever you have come across!

ps nice cruiser MB!

84 Profile: With that GT stamp in the tubing there is slim chance of them being the "early" Santa Ana Pro Bars that you were originaly after. You seem to have deduced that they are expert bars , probably from Huntington Beach , early.

So thats where my inverted Dead Kennedy's stem went Matt , polished up & fit onto that weirdo 24 inch 86 GT. Damm strange cruiser frame , the top tube is not period correct , the end is flat & has no GT stamp in it. Same looking top tube as our 81 26 inch GT cruiser has.

I think GT shipped a lot of "weird" or "odd" parts to Australia to sell bitd , rather than sell them new in the USA
