So I have my next project ready to go. It's a 76' tanker frame that is nos but has some shelf wear. I only know of two of these frames on the boards and I own one of these frames. There are more of these frames out there, Theyhave to be, but nobody's built one or I at least have not seen one from Diablo or Fredburger LOL However Tim does have a 77' model that I really like! And it's only a matter of time before Reilley1 gets lucky as the self billed "Notoruis Bottom Feeder"
Back to the original question: Do I build it or keep it so I can one day loan out to the TIMHANEYREILLEY1DAVECONNETZSMITHONENIANBMXHALLOFFAMEMUSEAM?

No option 3, like using it to hold the mail box up?

Tanker - Any 70's 20" bmx bike that weighs in at least 30 pounds or over and is made up of a mild steel frame with very little alloy components if any!

if it's that rare then I'd build it up. why not?
TIM
Mar 17 2007, 01:46 PM
because it's rare..
hollywood763
Mar 17 2007, 01:51 PM
and none are built up..

I am going to let the cat out of the bag and try to post a pic of the "Tanker"

Mar 17 2007, 04:10 PM
Make up your mind. Is it a cat or is it a tanker?

Reilley, You and Diablo are responsible for this craziness that I suffer from! Here it goes...
Reilley1
Mar 17 2007, 04:35 PM
That sir, is not a tanker. 7b,s Redline steel fork, Campy or Dura Ace crank, Campy high flange with Shimano MX coaster, Union Pedals and a set of early alloy bars...
Hmm..I just happen to have all that stuff.
Your call, I didn't think u liked frames alone, either way, VERY cool item

Build it. A frame on a shelf is a NIc-Nac, but a bike is a Bike!

that would make a sweet rider, especially with the parts that reilley1 just mentioned.
a bike like that deserves to be built and ridden.

nice frame and it would make some nice NOS wall art.

Needs Takagi Black steel one piece cranks! I'd build it!
(Of course I'd also be bored 20 min's later and sell it. Reilley or TIM would post this comment so I had to beat them to the punch).

Build it so I can go back to being the only guy with a nos JW FMF!

Tough call..... nos stuff like yours & Dan's is ultra rare & uber special on a already tuff find.
NOS stuff= Wallhanger-All you can do is look at it.
Just my opinion....but what's fun about nos stuff?
On the otherhand, If you build it then you'll be tagged as the guy that didn't appreciate what you had.
If you view it as an investment piece, by all means keep your mitts off.
If you wanna enjoy building it, then have at it.
Whatever the case, it sure is purty.

It's kinda like an old bottle of wine in the cellar, eh?
Do you keep it to resell?
will the kids appreciate it when they inherit?
or shall you just sit back on a nice evening and sip it under a nice moon lit night savoring that sense of euphoric calmness.
oh, the decisions......

With the deal you got on those frames, it'll still be worth enough WITHOUT being NOS to be worth the while. On the other hand, it's only NOS once!
So there it sits...dreaming of when it can finally be free, free to breeze effortlessly down the street, wind thru the handlebars, not a care in the world...Finally realizing the joy it was designed to bring. Freeeeeee......

A tanker is an old 26" bike, AKA beach cruiser. That is a tanker. They used to have fake gas tanks on them. And they were heavy.

I thought those were balloon tire bikes?
DAN
Mar 21 2007, 01:21 PM
Thanks G-Flash! I feel better now! Maybe build it with all nos parts. I really wanted to build mine but after seeing Code Blue's I knew I would never be able to equal the cool factor of that bike. So I guess it's wall art for now.
