Anyone know where the hose is?

If you are facing Koko Head the hose is in the bushes to the left about midtrack.

Just wanted to check in and say howzit to the old gang!

This tread is awesome! Talk about good memories! I lived for riding back in the day, as I'm sure most of us did. Wait I still live for riding just a little bigger wheels and some gears to help with the hills!!

I have not been on a 20" bike for years but ride mtnb at least one a week. I bump into Kevin every now and again and Russell up at Royal Summit a few times. Bumped into Roland a few weeks ago at South Shore surf shop and thought I was seeing things first time in I don't know how many years. Roland you still look the same.

I looked around but no photos of the Bike Shop / TGO day's. Just some earlier shots of Campbell Ind. I will try and get some photos from my dad.

So who's going to get a 24"? I might be tempted.

If anyone want"s to get out on the trails let me know. (Kevin I know you have a MTNB) We've been doing some night rides and usually something on Sat. or Sunday afternoon.

Jeremy I tried to answer your post on Hawaii BMX but the site did not verify me and will not allow me to post. Do you know who the administrator is?

Let me know the next time you all go out to HK jumps. The last time Roland called but I was out on a trail riding so did not make it.

Aloha JWandell
Jeremy K.
Hey Jeff!

Long time. Glad you finally dropped in. I have been hitting Royal Summit with Russel. In fact I just came from there. I rode a few times up there with my 20 but the last two times I went with my mtb. Unfortunately I have a hard time keeping up - for now. It's alot of fun though. Definately more fun there with the mtb. I'm getting a 24 sometime this month. Rockne is also building one. He has the frame, fork and wheels coming already. I'm sure Roland will get one too.

I have no idea who the administrator on bmxhawaii is. I thing Jason Chang has the same problem there.

Looking forward to seeing your old school pics. Everyone is hitting HK on Sun probably arout 330ish. As far as I know......Jason, Rockne, Kevlau and a bunch of others will be there. Hope you come out.

jk
Jason Chang
Yeah I cannot post on BMXhawaii either. Never got my confirm. First Buddy, now Jeff, is Cy next? Where's Sano. Being an art guy I always thought Sano had the coolest number plates. Looking forward to this Sun. I will bring a photo album that Faye gave to me. It has early 80"s pics, some of the people I don't know. I am sure you guys may know them. Funny all of us raced, but we never all got together to just hang out and ride. It took 25 years, and now we are doing this. Too cool.

Changstar
Sugi
Your confirms might be in your junk mail folders or blocked because your e-mail accounts may not identify it as safe.I think that's where mine was.Not much activity on BMX Hawaii anyways.
Chang, you know if anybody got a ride for Baham? It seems like he's interested, bum knee and everything, but he doesn't have anything to ride.

Hey everyone,

Just found this site by accident I was looking for motorcycle stuff , but then wound up surfing thru oldschool bike days. Used to be a sucky bike/bmx'er in the mid to late 70's wink.gif Tho I dont know any of you personally I do remember hearing about some of you thru others etc.. I used to pal around soley moanalua/salt lake guys, Scott Iha, Judd Yamane, Ace Tanoue etc.. Ive also seen James Cambe and Larry Carmack mentioned here.. I knew James from the neighborhood/school etc.. and Larry used to live down my street. Im sure others will come to mind as well.

Anyway cool pics guys, brings back memories as I sadly I never took any. Btw If any of you ever see or have a pic with a guy sporting #481 looming in the background let me know. laugh.gif

Welcome to the site......glad to see any old school Hawaiians drop in. I used to ride with James Cambe alot at one time. If you run into James or Larry tell them about the site. I think Rory still hangs with Larry Carmack.

JeffW.....Forgot to mention Rory said he might get a 24 too. A few more guys and we might have a full gate. angel.png

What's up Jeff? Well, I broke down and got a 24. Not anything fancy, just enough to ride on. The handlebars feel super low though. It's a Diamond Back Nitrous 24. Went into Eki's yesterday and picked it up. I'm super squirrelly! hehe I'll try to ride with you guys when I don't ride my dirtbike. Larry and I go every sunday. He still has his Mongoose 24, so I'll try to get him to come out too! Anyway, I'll be practicing so at least I can go over the jumps, I'm having a hard time with curbs right now. lol Talk to you guys later!

Oh Yeah, lets all hop on those 24's! Rory Squirrely.....I don't believe it for a minute. You are one of the smoothest riders I have seen.

Every shop on the island is going to wonder why 24's are suddenly selling. I have a few used ones for sale if anyone wants a cheap price for a good bike. I used to ride for NIRVE about 2001-2003 and got a few 20" and cruisers. NIRVE was created from a group from GT that all left together. Maybe we'll get some surprise people show up this Sun. Rory?

I'm pretty sure you mean Anthony Fennell. I rode with him a few times. I took him from Red Hill to Kahala and back one day. Never rode with me again. He thought I was nuts to do that everyday. I see him everynow and then. He is a huge now. Not fat huge but muscle huge.

Definatey gotta unearth the Thruster when you go back home. And post some pics when you do.

Thanks for the links to the Vegas tracks!

I used to race Lonny all the time, Alex Damron too, or Fluffy Eubanks(sp). I know one year at the grands we had 99 riders in 17 over. Made it to semis, got beat at the line for 4th by some guy named Dave Clymer.

Don't know how rad EF is. But I know you can ride it. All the local tracks are rollable since even the 5 & unders have to ride it. But if you want to blast some doubles then I am sure you will have your chance. Track website may have pictures.

EFP is a great track, It's desinged like most tracks today. Rollable for the beginners, but the big guys can still air it out. You'll be fine. Don't forget to sign-up for an ABA membership before you hit the track, Maybe get a race in with some points. Since you'll be the only rider in HI. with points you could sneak in on a hawaii #1 district plate. hehehehehe....... Changstar will be jealous!

Rockne's building a SE Floval Flyer. Picking up stuff from Ebay. Check with Changstar he can hook you up with a Formula Cruiser. The geometry on those are tight!

Definately will let you know when we hit Summit. Sunday was definately brutally hot. At least the VOG kinda went away. Gotta bring a cooler when we go out next time.

Aloha from California. Glad I stumbled on this forum as I keep having my mid-life crisis and thing of the days of old. I used to ride with Kevin, Moki, John in the 80's and even raced against John in the cruiser class (took 2nd at Castle Park). I think I spent most of my time at The Great Outdoors (wasn't Dennis the owner).

I also remember the days of the Mongoose Van and even going on thebike rised around the island )or at least trying) on single speed bmx bikes. Needless to say we didn't make it around as the rains came and we had to call Dennis to come and pick us up at Turtle Bay. Good Times.

Thanks for the memmories and I look forward to reading more and maybe I will hook up with friends of old.

I never really rode trails before, so going from full blast on a 25 foot wide track to trying to put it down on a 1 foot path just played with my mind. Plus it was pretty lippy and short so over jumping scared me too. Not that I over jumped but I had it stuck in my head. Still so much fun to try and get back some skill and learn a buch of new ones. Mike can still ride really well, almost like anything he thought of he would just do the first time out. It was the bald head that threw me not the tattoos.

Thanks for the good words. I am trying to dig up some pictures from those days. I started racing the cruiser class in 1980 at the Raceway out by Waienai. Then the group started to get larger and then the State Chapionships were the best. I was fortunate to be good friends with the Great Outdoors guys that I got to participate in the builindg of that track for the Championships.

I was trying to remember one of the other Great Outdoors guys , he drove a white Monsa or Vega with a black stripe (I think) down the center.

I will try to find the pics that I have and get them scanned.

Kenny--
Any details on Mongoose you looking for? Color, year etc.. Maybe I can help.
KennyBrown
bmx joe,

The year would have been 1980-1981 and if I remember correctly it was nickle plated but it could have been a bad chrome job too.

I don't think the cruiser was a Powerlite, for some reason I think it was a Pro Cruiser or something likt that.
