Tantlus trails are a whole different and wild story.

Phew! Now I'm tired.

Russ

Hey Russ,

Now that you should be rested, how about some Tantlus stories?

That's not twisted. Like they say, talk the talk, you gotta walk the walk.

Hey BU,

What a contrast between new school and old school. Either way, they both are awesome!

Will we see the 38 Special on the track on SUN?

I noticed those hubs too. That bike came out killer, looks like you set it up to ride anything, track, street, park. A do it all bike, is it heavy?

Thanks, now need to find a 16T White Industry freewheel. Any leads?

Changstar
Jason Chang
If you are gonna run a freewheel these are the best by far. Hard to go back to a Shimano DX freewheel. Some say it is even better than high end cassete hubs. Funny I asked about it to a few shops and they did not know what it was. Maybe we can buy direct.

Not sure, I just wish that the new track had a set of doubles like them where it is faster to actually jump them instead of manualing them.

I have to admit all the jumps are the same speed if you jump them or roll them. But the key is still to take them smooth. Either way the smoothest will be the fastest. In the futute we can make a few changes and make a gut check style jump that is faster if you can clear them.

Hey everyone, the new gate is up and running. Was totaly fun and made it feel a lot more like a real race. The vibe was more competitive and less freeride. This Sun should be great if weather holds out. Also we will be taking a poll to chose our first race date. Should it be Feb 7th or 14th? Superbowl or Valentines?

From Jim Drake:

Aloha BMXers,

At long last we have set the date for our first BMX race at SANDBOX BMX. We have had two successful practices with the starting gate and are planning the first race on Sunday 14 Feb. I originally thought we would start on the 7th, but we figured it was pointless to compete against the Super Bowl. We will still be open that day for those who would like to get a few gates prior to the first race.

Some things to remember;

1. Bring your bike prepped without reflectors or pegs, or anything that could fall off and injure yourself or someone during the race. Also make sure you have your number displayed in 3” numbers on a plate. Your number is the last 3 numbers from your ABA card. If you haven’t gotten around to getting a number plate yet, we can give you a temp one made of paper.

2. Bring your card to check in (3-4PM.) We will scan your card during the check in process. Entry fee will be $10.00.

3. As always, make sure you have long pants and shirt plus your helmet.

4. Remember, parents may accompany children into the race staging area, but only 5 and under are allowed to balance their child’s rear wheel on the gate (no pushing for a faster start.) If you haven’t mastered the balancing act yet, just put one foot on the ground and expect that you’ll not be the only one that will be doing the start that way.

5. The first 3 finishers in the main event will get trophies. Everyone should receive a medal (including trophy winners) for your first race at SANDBOX BMX. If we miss you, don’t hesitate speaking up.

Thanks to all that have stepped forward to volunteer for the positions required to make the races go better. If you don’t have a job yet, we’ll be calling for volunteers at the races. See you there!

Good luck guys with the first race at the Sandbox.I wish I could make it out there but we are tied up with other sporting events until summer.

Remember, second place is the first place loser.

Jeremy, I'll be there with a cooler full of drinks and my grill making some dogs. I'll have a donation/tip jar but that's getting donated to IBMX at the end of the day. And it will definitely be alot of fun!

From Jim Drake:

BMXers,

To prepare the final touches for our first race on Sunday, we’ll be having a work day this Saturday. We don’t have a lot of extra tools, so the most useful tool to bring is a broom (we only have two) for grooming the track. Metal rakes are useful as well for the rocks. Ari Mclaren will be out in the morning (about 8AM to Noon) to head up the work and I will be there for a few hours from noon on. I’m thinking the track is in decent shape, so for those comfortable with carpentry work, I’d like to build a few shelves and mount some speakers (8-9 of them) for the PA in the afternoon. Anything you can do to help is most appreciated. See you at the track!

Went to watch the races today.I was impressed with the turn out of riders. Hopefully next time there will be more of a turn out. Then the next time more of a turn out. Each time increasing the amount of racers coming out and making the sport grow again.

I was watching the races next to a guy that said he used to race back in the 70's/80's on the mainland. He had two kids that was racing. He said he brought his kids every Wednesday to practice on the track. He was also there with one of his kids friends. So hopefully they can get other kids involved and make the sport grow.

Jeremy looked like you did not slow down a bit. You looked real smooth and fast.Especially out of the gate. As the gate dropped you can see you pull away from the pack.

There were several other riders that looked impressive and pulled away from the pack.

Hopefully the remaining bicycle shops that are operating will get involved like before and start to sponsor some riders and promote the sport more so it can grow.

I can't wait till the next race day.

BC

jk, you smoked em today... bruddah russell, you gotta show to show us what fast is... LOL
anyway today was killer, havent raced since keehi lagoon. i think one of the guys in my class was a pro rider, so it felt good to beat him... oh well, cant wait til the next race... my hats off to all the workers and racers for a job well done today...

Reid Shimabukuro
Wayne Rhoden
Jim Drake

Wes Anzai
Jason Enright
The Bike Shop
Bikefactory
All the volunteers and companies that donated their time, equipment, and materials

Huge thank you to Jim Drake and Jason Chang. Jason Chang made a huge sacrifice and didn't race so he could get things running. I am sure he wanted to be on that gate badly. Thank you to Jim T for taking the time to video the racers. BC and Larry Carmack thank you for supporting the racers. It was great to have some OG's out there supporting BMX. And most of all thank you to the wifes and moms for being understanding and letting us do our thing on Valentines!

That was so much fun!!!! I never felt my legs burn like that since probably 1979. ohmy.gif There were some great battles - I really loved the battle between Alaska and Woody coming into the last turn. Unfortunately, Alaska's front wheel came off (broken dropout) and they both went down. Things are going to be really competitive in that class.

But, like BU said where was bruddah Russel? At least TG was out representing!
BONE808
jk,

post some pics of the race.... I seen your wife snapping away....
