Did Shimano track hubs come in any other colors? I thought they only came in silver. There is a trick to making any hub spin as good a a track hub, but it won't last because the hub itself is a softer material and wears out fast. Shimano would heat treat all the areas of the bearing assembly which made it super hard and rolled the best. Just take any hub and clean out all the grease. Put it back together with rubbing compound(red) instead of grease. Then ride or attached a drill to your axle and run it to polish and smooth out everything. Clean it out and do again with polishing compound (white). Spin or run again for a while. Finaly clean and put together with grease. This is the way to get the best out of a loose ball hub.

I used to use "Blue Magic", still do for polishing, nothing better.

To polish frames/parts to a mirror shine w/ blue magic, use Charmin TP (red labeled one) and change whenever it turns black. And use it to clean the polish off. You'll end up using a lot of TP, but the results are stellar. Charmin has no wood chips in the paper so no scratching.

There was a good turnout. It rained of a couple of times. Nothing too bad though. The rain actually made the track better with everyone riding. Rory was there watching. Its always good to see him. Another old school Campbell days rider (Jan Luna) was riding the track with his son. He ordered a 24 from Bikefactory and is waiting for it to come in. Props to Jim Drake for getting the track ready every practice.

Yeah I was watching, he crashed on the first straight was about 4th or 5th when it happend. he was boxed in from all sides and kept it pinned. He's only been riding about a month. Damn impressive. Also Gorgeous George winning the cruiser #1 plate and being in the 41-45 cruiser class. That means we also have the largest rider count. So lots of comp in that class. Looking forward to giving it a try next year.

Update from IBMX:
BMX enthusiasts,
We’ve been up and running for a couple months now and are over 160 new riders who have been to practice. We continue to grow and hope to begin racing soon. Thank you for everyone’s support for this project now and into the future. If you haven’t been to our Web site lately (islandbmx.org) , it’s been updated with a Twitter feed that is updated before every practice. You can check the web site or sign up to follow the feed on your own. I was looking for a way to get the word out about the weather since the rain has discouraged people from coming out when the Sand Island area hasn’t actually been affected as much as other areas where you live. Also check out ABA’s latest 30 second commercial and the links to some awesome ABA race videos posted on GO211.
We expect to have the starting gate foundation poured this Friday. Thanks to Ari McLaren for his support in this. Also, Kevin Lau has made the metal part of the gate and should be installed soon. I’m expecting to call for a work day, perhaps a week from Saturday for help fixing a few things up. We recently got two 20ft. containers from Aloha Air Cargo that we’ll use in the starting gate area for equipment storage, race signup, and starting gate tower. We’re working on fencing for the track as well. The Bike Shop has generously donated $5000.00 to that cause, but we’ll still need help when it comes time to put the fence up. As always, we’re open to your suggestions as we continue to progress and improve SANDBOX BMX. See you at the track!

Hey guys, poured the gate pad today and a little sidewalk for the kids to push back to the gate. However the track got damaged by the heavy rain. Parts of the track had over a foot of standing water today. I have cut some trenches to drain the lake. I plan on going down tommorrow with the excavator to dig the trenches deeper and install some drainage pipes. Gonna be plenty to do if we're going to ride on Sunday.

Yesterday from Jim Drake:
Aloha BMXers,
This is a heads up that there is a possibility that SANDBOX BMX will open tomorrow if the sun continues to shine and there are a few extra hands to help groom the track. We’re still literally digging out from Thursday’s heavy rain. Luckily Ari had the planned cement pour for the gate and assessed the water damage, with a couple lakes on the track. He did some hand digging to relieve the trapped water on Friday and he took the initiative to bring his back hoe tractor in today for some major dirt work. We laid a drainage pipe between the berms for turn one and three. So if the sun holds up, the track will be in considerably better shape tomorrow afternoon. However, if we can get as many as possible to come out early tomorrow before practice, we’ll see how things go for riding. I’ll still try to do a twitter update before opening. Thanks
Jim Drake

Don't buy Atom Lab, their parts are specific, can't just buy a cog, need to be Atom Lab. Just make sure the hub you get has a 3/8" axle conversion kit and is a single speed hub.

actually, you can use poverty cogs. once you screw them on there is no taking it off. you use a 29mm wrench and chain wrench. need to make a custom 29 wrench the ones I tried all bent. so if you know what gearing you will be running, it is a good hub... right now I'm running a 28-12 seems to be pretty good, was running 30-14 but winds out too fast. if you have the hub, you can call atomlab and they will sell you drivers for 35 bucks instead of 65 bucks...

Well find and post up the pic. Thumper has always been very fast. Vann got his start in Hawaii, later moved to SD and got a NAG #1. Give any Hawaiian some time to fine tune his game on the mainland and most of the time they have done well.
Saw the concrete at SI and it looks awesome. The gate is going to change the whole timing of hitting the straight away. I know it seems long to the first jump but it is going to take some horse's to get there. Anyone know where I can buy some stronger legs and back?

Being that the park is being run privately. You probably have to look for a vendor that makes signs. If it was run by the city or state. It would be parks and rec for the city.State would be harbors. Maybe you can ask Reid if he knows someone who can do the sign.

As for the dirt bikes. Because the only legal place to ride is Kahuku. People will look for places to ride. The signs would be a good step. But I think you guys still have to put up a fence. Maybe someone can try and get some grant money from some organization like Kam School or something to build a fence. I don't know just trying to give ideas to get funds for a fence.
