Hi All!
It is a blast to go down memory lane reading all of these posts! My BMX days are the most fun and fondly remembered memories in my biking history. I loved working at The Bike Shop from the early days of BMX. Remember Toku Fukuhara? He was one of the early BMX racing organizers after Dennis and Faye Saiki. I fondly remember working with Cy, Jarrel, Jensen, Stu Ono, Atomman Kim, and Faye and Dennis. I loved riding and playing chase with Rockne, Roland, Buddy, Bo, and Barry Ikeda, Eric Phillippart, David Wakatake, Alan Shin, and all of the great kids who would follow us around. All of the memories are flooding back. Remember "Rock Jump" at Punahou School? The guys would taunt the security guards and then take a flyier off the jump. I think that one time the guard tried to follow them on his moped and ate it bad!
Riders ready, Pedals ready, GO!

Hi Jeremy,
I was looking for a Pro Class like I used to have but it seems that nobody is interested in selling theirs! Oh well, I probably couldn't afford it anyway. I have a brand new Redline series 3 frame, fork, Stu Thompson redline bars, and stem so am working on building a bike. I wonder if Jason still has a set of vintage redline cranks and bottom bracket? I will try and call him. I will try to coordinate a trip to Honolulu on a day when there a race so see all of you. I am excited with all of the new developments. Thanks for all involved for your hard work!

Wow the track was pretty packed today. I guess the word is getting out. Some OG's even came out - BC and Rory. And Walter "worm" Watanabe was doing some laps!

Keeeen !!! glad you found us. I remember you as a racer then as the track operator of Keehi. For sure get with us if you get over here. I do have a set of Redline cranks(180mm), first gen with single pinch bolts. Not sure if I am going to part with them, but maybe.

Not set with all the rules of the 4X but it should mimic the 4X rules at the UCI events. If allowed those Black lightning bikes with be the ticket.

That reminded me of the KMCB we raced on a long time ago. Looks like fun! I think they want to run races seperate from us - on Saturdays. Thats the impression I get anyways from Aris post on dh.
My thoughts.......I just hope they respectfully let IBMX run a few races first before they run their 4X races. Hey I am all for it just gotta teach the MTBers that you don't skid and power slide on a bmx track.

I posted the idea on dh to gage the interest. Pretty positive feedback. I am hoping to do one race a month starting in January with the finals of the series in April. Hoping to promote interest and memberships. They do this in Washington and have had good success with it. There race rules state 26" wheels, no rigid forks, and four-man gates. There will definately be ettiquette lessons posted on DH Hawaii as this gets closer to being a reality.

Of the MTBers riding the track right now - Tyson and KLau look really fast and smooth. Of course Enrite looks really fast too. If he races his MTB he'll be a threat to win the whole thing. Sounds like fun no matter what. Why the no rigid fork rule?

Yeah I see no reason to not allow rigid forks. Those are the rules of the race organizer in Washington that we're trying to copy. There has also been a request for a clydesdale class, seems appropriate for Hawaii.

Just gotta clean the mags, and find better bars and a stem.

Nov 13 2009, 03:15 AM
Are you looking to get a Gold stem for it?
As for the 4X, will the repop of 26 inch BMX bikes be allowed? I know SE has one and maybe a few others. Sounds awesome, more people, more bikes, more racing. Think the HBMA will be holding this class also? Whats a Clydesdale class?

Very nice! My first BMX bike was a Blue Mongoose / Motomag. It was the shorter frame and had no brake caliper bracket. I think it had the gusset on the bottom bracket too. I'm not positive though. Later when hand brakes and aluminum rims hit the scene Dennis Saiki riveted an aluminum bracket onto the frame for me. Dang...........thats a very long time ago.
Rust you gotta bring that thing to the track one day. Would be cool to do some laps on it.

How much does that bike weigh? I know they were heavy but never knew exactly how much. Imagine a special coaster brake class. What kind tires are on there, looks just like the old original (Cheng Shin?) style knobby's. Moki might be interested in racing that bike.

I tried out my old 20 incher last Sun. At first it seemed real squirly but it felt ok after a few laps. For being squirly there are just some things that is easier to do on a 20. I felt about the same as when I ride cruiser, but many people said I look better on a 20 than my cruiser. Strange but I am happy that I did get noticed, and not for being worse, ha ha. Guess it was more in my head the fear of riding the 20 again. So guys don't be afraid to give the small bike a chance again. By the way the bike I was on is for sale if anyone is looking for a 20.

Maybe I should do more time on my 20 than my cruiser. But thanks, funny you were not the only one to notice. Sometimes what I feel and what others can see is totaly different. I would like to try a lap or 2 on your 20, you can try mine and maybe we can get a better idea to fine tune things. I have wondered if your slightly longer TT would be good for me. On a 20 I can adapt to a longer TT but on a cruiser it seems more crucial, maybe cause everything is bigger. I have tried a 21 TT on both, on a 20 it was OK, but on cruiser it was a tank.
