Finals of BMX Supercross. Awesome 80's style pedal in the air. Watch everybodys going to start doing it again. Wish I still could do that, than again I wish I could still get off the ground.

QUOTE (Jeremy K. @ Oct 13 2009, 06:10 AM)

This is the second major injury from a crash on the BMX track. Both were from "older" guys poaching the track when it's closed. We - meaning sandbox, IBMX, as well as the riders - need to get moving on the sign. We need to come up with he verbage. I am pretty sure we can approach the State with making the sign since the track is on State property. The sign should include info about safety gear, track operating times, ABA membership etc. The sign is the first step in limiting things like this. Then we can work on getting the fence. I bet the ABA would even be willing to help out with the sign - Shannon and Leasure are Hawaii transplants after all.
We need to get the word out that guys need to stay off the track when its closed. The State is leasing the land to the Sandbox for 2yrs. So this is a trial period. Guys poaching the track and getting hurt can lead to litigation that can shut this down for everyone - BMXers, RCers, and MXers. That would really suck to have to tell everyone that the BMXers F'd it up for everyone.
There is a big jump in traffic on bmxhawaii lately. I am sure it is from interest generated from the track. We need to capitalize on this. IBMX needs to update its website - I know, easy for me to say. A forum section would do wonders for those seeking info on the track.
Another thing IBMX might consider is having practice days on Holidays as well. This last crash happened on a Holiday so I am sure other guys are checking out the track on days that they have off from work. This could be another way we can help generate interest - have special open track days on Holidays.
And guys don't forget to grab some flyers at the next practice. The ABA made some flyers for us - you can pass them out to kids with the candy you give them on Halloween.
Just my .02.

.. hey guys-
got this invite in my facebook mail.. i know greg and clayton chee, and have raced with them on the road, though i have not been on the road competing or training lately .. it appears as though a cyclocross event might be going down.. those of you who are familiar with cyclocross will realize that the track or most aptly, "course" is different than a bmx one .. wonder if the skinny tires will tear up the berms and jumps..
here is the post:
---
Clayton invited you to "The 1st Annual Better Late Than Never Cyclocross Series" tomorrow.

I was lucky enough to get an invite to the Team Safari and Team Eki reunion. It was the most fun I had in a very long time. Seeing childhood friends after such a long time is the best part of the whole BMX revival for me. A lot of memories and stories were swapped. JT shared some vintage BMX video's of KLau and Eddie Fiola. Larry Carmack was gracious and welcomed everyone into his home. He even had his OG Gary Littlejohn cruiser on hand to share. The only bummer is that Malvert didn't show up and Alika Akiona and Alex Adams were both on duty. Hopefully next time!

Jason and Jeremy,
I see you met my boy yesterday at the track. He was telling me that he was watching you two at the track. He was telling me how fast you two were and how the track was a great place to be at. I guess you got him started . He was saying that he might consider racing now. Since it was so much fun. But he did say the track was tiring and that he could only make half of the track before he ran out of gas.
How's Darrin's old bike. Not bad for being 30 years old. It was pretty much the same except for the lousy paint job we did and the rims that we still have thats in the back tool shed. Oh sorry we changed the seat due to the original one was broken over the years being stored.

It was great meeting your son! Its always good to see new riders coming out to check out the track and ride. But, it was a good moment seeing Darrin's old bike getting some dirt time. So much history in that bike. I am glad to see it still in the family. I hope your son gets the bmx bug and continues to come out to the track. Tell him don't worry not much of us can make it around the track without gassing out - I know I can't. Hopefully you can come out with your son one day soon!

Jeremy,
If he starts racing I will be watching him race when it starts up. I have been at the track a couple of times and what you guys have been doing is great. I probably get Darrin's old sealed hubs relaced and get the boy to run those rims. Right now I told him he cannot run those rims due to the spokes are weak. We had 80/60 spokes on them and over the years the spokes seem a little flimsly. The spokes are real loose. Plus I don't think they make those spokes any more. I tried getting replacement spokes one time and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. The begining part is 80 gauge for about 1/2 inch and then the rest of the spoke is 60 gauge. Then I took the rim down there and they guy never saw one like that before. Man lacing rims is expensive. 25 bucks for labor and 25 bucks for parts. That's only for the spokes and labor. I'm providing the hub and rim. That's why I bought a pair of rims for the bike for like 70/75 bucks I think.Oh well thanks again for starting up the track .

BC,
I remember those spokes! I had them on one of my wheelsets too. I'm pretty sure they don't make them anymore. From what Russell was telling me - the bike shops have a tool that they use to cut and thread the spokes now. So I guess the spokes are bought in bulk at a certain length and the bike shops cut them to the length needed. Nowdays there are so many hub sizes that approach makes total sense. I hear you on the prices! Everything costs so much more now!!!

Brian, bring the parts for the wheel and I can lace it up and true it for you at Kahuku. Just let me know when you are going. Also, bring a frame or fork that I can true it on. It'll take me about 20 mins per rim. Rory

We are premiering the hot new DVD from Fit Bike Co., "Stay Fit" this Saturday night at BIKEFACTORY Waipio. As you all know, a lot of the Fit team has left since the completion of this flic so this will be the last DVD from them including Chase Hawk, Dakota Roche, Chase Dehart, Russ Barone, Trey Jones and Rob-O Morales. I'm not sure if I'll have DVD's available for sale but we will be taking preorders.
This will be an evening of wine, women and song . . . or at least beer, BBQ and bikes. Same basic game as last time . . . be here about 7:30pm and I'll start the flic at 8:30. We'll have a grill up and running, so bring a dish with enough to share. The coolers are already here and will be stocked with ice so you can bring beverages. If you're of age, BYOB. We'll also try to have some folding chairs on hand so there's somewhere to sit if you don't bring your own.
Again, if time permits we'll bring out the bunny-hop poles and the Grind box so don't forget your bikes. The BBQ will be going so bring some food as well. If you have any questions please let me know.

They do still make those spokes, they're caled double butted. Maybe look look for a more modern used bike, that old bike has so much history I wou;dn't want to see anything break on it. Awe yea, i see the gate skeleton! Kevin, what will you be using for the grip in the gate for the tires? We use the "grip strut" on the ABA national gate (google it). You could pour motor oil on it and still get a gate without spinning the tires. It's a little spendy but worth it in the long run.

Jason,
Yup, He came home that day and said he went to the Sandbox and two guys asked him about the bike. He described you and Jeremy. I told him who you two were and that you two used to race. He was really excited to have meet two guys that new his uncle back in the day. He was telling me how the two of you were excited to see the bike also. Thanks for the offer Jason for the parts. Have to see were the boy wants to go in the racing part. If he is serious I might get him a new bike. But then again I think Darrin wouldn't mind if his nephew began to race his bike again. In a way he would be racing on a track again.
