We are premiering the hot new DVD from Bang Pictures, "Stompin' Stu - The Story Of BMX Legend Stu Thomsen" this Saturday night at BIKEFACTORY Waipio. Bang Pictures produced "Joe Kid On A Stingray" and this one takes a longer look at Stu, one of the OG bad asses. Well, we just showed Joe Kid and I think we all had fun at that showing. Lets make this one even better. As far as I know, this is the first Official premiere in the U.S.
Same basic game as last time . . . be here about 8:00pm and I'll start the flic at 8:30. We'll have a grill up and running, so bring a dish with enough to share. The coolers are already here and will be stocked with ice so you can bring beverages. If you're of age, BYOB. We'll also try to have some folding chairs on hand so you there's somewhere to sit if you don't bring your own.
Again, if time permits we'll play some games like bunny-hops, wheelies, foot-down. I have some small prizes to give out so don't be afraid to bring your bikes. DVD's WILL be available for sale so don't order them online. If you have any questions please let me know.

Just seen the sand box news clip on channel 8, why was there a motocycle riding the track? I hope people don't get the idea the bmx track is for motorcycles.
Jason Chang
Aug 25 2009, 02:10 AM
Yeah saw that too. I am OK with them doing that just for TV. But they should have made it clear that he was on the BMX track. What if some friend of Reid wants to ride his Dirt bike there. What if everybody thinks it is OK to take a motorcycle on there to ride. There go's all the work and money we put in to get this far. Lets just hope nothing bad happens.

Hey Jason,
I hope you guys can put up the fence soon. With in the next couple days. I bet there will be one guy with a motorcycle that will jump on the track and trash it. With the pictures posted I was drolling and thinking how nice it would be to ride on the track with my kids YZ125. I'm sure with the news showing the guy on the motorcycle riding the track made a lot of people drolling. I think the news said it was a supercross track, a remote control track, as well as a off road track.
Then they interviewd John Desoto and he mentioned that it was nice that they built another track due to there was only one other track to ride on this island. That was Kahuku motocross track.
On Saturday for sure there will be guys that will be there with there dirt bikes wanting to ride on the track.

The news coverage was pretty harmful I think. Especially channel 5 which basically made it sound like a motocross track. We pretty much got punked with the media coverage. I was walking the track before the ground breaking and the areas we had raked and sweeped had big rocks all over them. My guess is its already happening - motocross riders on the track. I think a start is to get some signage up like at HK. Otherwise when we show up and some motocrosser is riding the track there will be some kind of confrontation. Any ideas on what we can do? I know the motocross community is a huge part of this project going forward. But, we don't stand a chance if every wrist twitcher thinks its a supercross track. I don't feel like putting any work into the track only to have it destroyed.

Bruddah Russell got his own rules. As for a work day, when I get my next work(job) schedule I will aim to work on what ever days off I get. It looks rough(the track) now but we are closer than you think. If I can get some cool prizes do you guys think we could sell raffle tickets to raise money for fence? What if we can get Joe Kid or Stompin Stu at a theater and proceeds from ticket sale go to benefit the track. However there will be no selling of chili or candy or likewise. Only cause I feel we can come up with cooler more fun ways to raise money.

I definitely agree that a fence is needed. Spoke with one of the Sandbox directors on MON after the dedication ceremony. He said that they have a fencing contractor that is donating fencing. I don't know how much fencing or who will install it. Maybe Changstar can confirm this with the Sandbox organization.
Fund raising can be tricky. Raffles must be conducted properly otherwise you can serve time for gambling. Similarly, a showing of the movie would have to get the proper licensing to prevent copyright violations. I'm not against fund raising, I'm just saying that it needs to be done correctly.
There's been a lot of chatter about motorcycles running on the track. When I walked the track after the dedication ceremony, I did not see any evidence of MXers except for the electric bike. The rocks observed could be due to two things, (1) Billy adding the jumps going into the turns that were not there on SAT, and (2) natural settling due to rain and wind. The fine dirt settles down exposing the rocks that were just below the surface. My $0.02 worth.

Sorry JT. Not sure if I agree with you. The rocks I saw were pretty good sized. And it was on the first straight, first jump, starting hill etc - areas we cleaned pretty good. The wind and rain will erase the tire tracks but, the rocks and damage will stay. Happens at HK everynow and then. Sometimes, when I get to HK you can see the minibike or Motocross tracks (faintly). The wind begins to erase the tracks. But, I do hope I am wrong on this.

Jason,
Stopped by to see the track today. The track is impressive to see in person. Saw a guy riding the track that looked like you but wasn't sure.I asked my cousin if that was you riding the track and he said that it didn't look like you. I was there with my cousin who showed me the whole layout for what is planned for the area. He showed me were the RC car area is going to be.Were the 4X4 guys are going to be and were the motocross track is planned. When they finish everything that park is going to be huge were families can go and enjoy the entire park. I think even the guys that fish will be happy so they don't have to park outside and walk in to set there poles.
Well any way while there there was one guy on a mountain bike riding the track. Some guy with his kid riding the track. There was this guy with his kid there and he was checking out the track and his kid wanted to ride the track but he didn't bring his bike. They said they were going to be back Wednesday to ride the track.
The kicker was some guy approached us and asked when the track was going to open and he wanted to know the hours. He wanted to bring his motocross bike to ride the track,
We told him that the track was a bmx track and that the motocross track was not built yet. He looked a little bummed. But you could see that he was drooling over the track.
I hope you get up the fence soon.

Sorry I missed out on the first wave of building. Had mom and dad out for the week from the mainland. When I told my wife I would be leaving camping early to go build she gave me the look that says do and you die. The good news is I am in for the long haul. When we get the fencing material I can lay out the fence posts and rent an auger for my bobcat. Ameron has told me I can have left over concrete for the post holes. I did a drive by and it is amazing. Great job everybody.

The track is on the island of Oahu. Luckily, there's always fare wars with the local airlines so if you visit your family in Hilo, you may be able to catch an interisland flight fairly cheap. Other than that, you'll probably have a connecting flight out of Honolulu International anyway, so if you look close on the landing or departure, you may get to see the track.

You can't ride the track now. There are concrete barriers on all the jumps. The faster we finish the track - the faster we can ride.
