Start shopping for that micro mini now. Do you know Reid from the Sand box? I heard he is a fireman, or one of the board members of the Sand Box is one.

A little update for you local boys: I just got back from buiding the ABA track on the Olympic Traning Center grounds......very cool place with a tech track! Chula Vista (San Diego) is not too bad of a flight from HI! Hope to see some of you there in Sept.

My first race (competing) will be in Rockford...anyone going?

Here are a few pictures from the OS legends show this weekend. Chang/Klaus, I met a guy at the show, I can't remember his name now, that used to know and ride with you guys. He moved to Schofield barracks in 86 just after I moved to England.

Hey Leasure,

Can you add some details and dates for Chula Vista??? I plan to hit InterBike in SEP, so depending on the dates, it may work out to visit San Diego.

Thought about Rockford, but airfare was pretty high and it's a small pain to get there from here.

Chula Vista is where the American Olympic team trains. To see and experience BMX at the highest level this is it. Competiton will be world class as many of the top international racers will be there. There are only 2 other international race events that rank higher, that would be the Olympics, and the UCI world Championships.

Rockford is also a great event, being one of the top tracks in the country. Not only do you get to experience the top notch racing on one of the best tracks, but it is also the largest gathering of old school BMXers with many notable people from the past and a huge display of anything old school. It is like a first class custom car show, with voting for top show bikes in many catagories. They also have a banquet dinner with special guest speakers, in the past people like Bob Osborn, Bob Haro and many other have been guest speakers. For me, I love that track and have always done well racing there but never able to get a win, got everything else except a first place. 2nd place is still pretty good for this local boy.

Jason,

Thanks for all the info. Too bad there's overlap on SAT, the 19th. The timing is good as InterBike is the following week. Need to think about this.

Are you going?

JT
Jason Chang
Sorry I have no plans to attend, I would love to but that is to much for me to spend for a BMX event. Maybe in the future if I tie it in with a family vacation or something, or get rich. Maybe after we get a local track going and I work towards being competitive on a higher level I would consider it.

By the way, this years Rockford guest speaker is none other than Stu Thomsen, I hear he is also going to race it in Cruiser and 20 inch. Last year Stu won the cruiser class at the NBL grand nationals.

Hey all, please check out the voting for thr BMX hall of fame. You all can vote and this is as high an award as it gets in BMX, and voting is open to the public. I have had a look and cannot decide who I am going to vote for yet, the all seem deserving. Some of the nominated go back to BMX day 1. It is so cool just to read about those that made history in our sport.

That's rad Jeremy! How old is your kid? My daughter is 2 1/2, but she's still just a hair too short to work her push bike. There's a kid at our track that's 3 1/2 that catches air on his push bike! He wears carhart overalls too. It's the definition of RAD!

JP smile.gif
Jeremy K.
He's 3. I'm pretty stoked! He loves being on the dirt. He rode from 9am-1230 this morning. He actually begged to go to the track this morning. I hope his enthusiasm lasts and he will ride when the track is built. The wifey is already warning me - not to be one of those parents. You know yelling and screaming at their kid to pedal faster. I just want him to have fun! But, lets be honest......A big part of me wants him to race! biggrin.gif He actually went down the steepest sender at the track with no hesitation......Then he started to cry because it scared him. Too funny!

Hey jipster - catching air on a push bike! That is RAD!!!!

I have some micro mini parts left from when my daughter was that age. Pretty sure I have frame fork and cranks and just about enough to do a whole bike. Never sold anything so a whole bike is somewhere. Let me know what you are looking for. Of the new bikes out of the box Redline has a great micro mini with 18 inch wheels that are 1 inch wide like the old sew ups that kids had waaay back. Just now it is a regular tire and tube.

That's new to me. But from the sound of it, maybe more of a trail type area like HK. Since it says small track. But still would be a fun and new place to check out. Should attract more people into playing in the dirt.

Cool pic Jeremy! I got 2 years and 9 months to go before my little becomes that age and I can't wait, but for the mean time I'm enjoying every moment! Have a Happy Father's Day this weekend everyone! biggrin.gif
Jeremy K.
BMXJoe,

Wow! Congratulations! And Happy Fathers Day as well! I hope you are finding time to get some sleep. biggrin.gif So far so good. We went out to HK yesterday and he is still loving every minute of it. I'm trying to figure out when I will get him a bike with cranks and pedals. The Redline Micro with 18" wheels looks pretty good. I think he is too small for a 20".

Changstar,

Yup........everyones riding. We need to set something up. Well, it can get difficult to get us all out at the same time now. Not like small kid time where all we had was school then zip home and grab the bike. But, would be cool to get us all in one place once in a while. Man, I miss the days when you would have 20-30 riders in one spot or riding to TBS.

jk
Jason Chang
JK, that Redline out of the box is the best deal out. Cost me an arm and a leg to get 18 inch skinny wheels built. But they were trick, 18X1 rims and hollow axle road hub, and 14 TI spokes. Somebody keep me posted when you are riding. Yea I been lagging. The internet is all the BMX'n i been doing. We should set a date to see if we can get everybody that is on Vintage and have a bike to get together. Even if you don't have a bike I think we can find some for them. I have 2, so I got one extra guy covered.

Yeah I miss those days too! Zip home after school, ride all day go to local store for drink and snack, then go home do home work and choirs, talk on the phone, work on bike, listen to radio etc.. Then do it all over again the next day. Then couldn't wait till those weekend long jounrey rides to Town or Ala's. and of course all our stops to the local bike shops and jumps. My friend started his son on 16"
2 Hip Cyclon and is doing well on it. He is about 4 years old I think and 18" was a little to big. Only thing that it has freewheel and hand brakes. Check 2 Hip site for details on Cyclon.
Rust808
I tried, but I just couldn't get it working smoothly. Maybe I need a better shifter. When I brake, it sticks a little but when I loosen the friction bolt the lever feels too loose. I'm gonna mess around with it later, if it still don't work it's back to the Tech 77's. Could also be the shifter doesn't have enough "throw".

It looks weird, but it don't feel too bad braking with the thumb.

So give us an update?
Jason Chang
Well as far as the exciting info, we tentatively have been scheduled to have Billy Allen come over in mid to late August for the track build. Billy has done tracks world wide and does all the ABA indoor national tracks and rebuilds of the outdoor national tracks. He is simply the best, and we got him. On the other side of things, did you know that a local BMX organization has existed for nearly ten years? Yep, Island BMX INC, formerly Island BMX association is the group working with the people from the Sandbox group. Soon IBMXI will be seeking people to fill open positions on the board. This group will work on the details and do some dirt working very soon. More to come, much more.

JK,

First, thanks for your confidence in me. I would consider getting involved although I no longer will have a business to support a team or sponsor races. I would like to attend one of their meetings to see what they are about before I commit any time and resources.

JC,

PLS keep everyone posted on the next meeting so that all interestd parties can get involved. Suggest that all the BMX shops also be invited.

Good, I am glad at least some of you are interested in hearing more about the direction we are trying to take this. I do believe that we are shooting for an odd number of officers to prevent ties in voting, and hope to have many advisory member to draw input from. One of the difficult things in the past were people with very limited experience in BMX, and therefore many times looking more like what Mom and Dad might want verses what would be best for the riders. As you know my vote will always side with the riders. Happy parrents are important, but not at the expence of the riders. An example of an item that actually became heated. With XXXX dollars we could make changes to the track and create new challenges, or have a end of the season dinner to celebrate and issue new numbers (top ten in each class). With only enough funds to do one, my choice was to change the track, as I felt this would help keep the interest in current riders and as word spreads it many times brings out past riders, there is always excitement with new jumps. However due to more Moms on the board I was out voted and we had a party. I was not the one heated by the way. Then at the party many people said on their own how they wished we had changed the track for the new season. With that 4 Moms got what they wanted. Sorry to all Moms that are not this way.
