here's one i found waiting to be thrown away in the kaimuki area. it had hutch race bars too. thinking of making it like rus808's. not sure though, since all the re-pros are only going to be white. anyone know of a chrome plater?

Nice find! Always keep your eyes open! You never know if you'll run into someone riding something old or something being thrown away on the side of the road.

how do you find these things? I don't know if the local chrome shop is good now. before when my friend used to own it the plating was awesome. but now I don't know, I can find out from my other friend what mainland shop they use to chrome their hot rod parts. now all you need to find is some graphite tuffs with campy hubs...

Klaus,

I know of a chrome plater down here but cannot vouche for his work.I'll post a link later or e-mail you.

Most of the hot rod and low rider guys do it in the mainland. It's alot cheaper due to competition and the quality I got to assume is better.

You mean my Tuff's? Not sure, I think I sold them to H Weeks, mine was cracked in the front. Rams frame was cracked but not his Tuffs.

That bike needs some MX 1000's or 900's, with the short Dia Comp lever. Ohh and Kool Stops.

Trick Star I bought at (Busters) Waipahu/McCully Bike Shop back in 1991 on one of my Hawaii visits/vacations.
I still have it and pic was taken last year before I changed some stuff on it to upgrade it. Bought it from Buster himself, and it was great to talk about the good old days when I was a kid that hanged out at that bike shop.

Holy nuts! Awesome trickstar! love the color! gotta love the personality of old school bikes. smile.gif you can tell them apart from a mile away.
Jason Chang
I remember rows of them at the original Bikefactory, that just brings me back. I hated putting on Rotors, I guess cause I tried so hard to get them smooth and work as well as if there was no Rotor. I always thought Hutch was like the Ferrari of bikes.

Probably just around town, ala moana, bike factory. Maybe 4-5ish? Just to get the cobwebs off my bmx legs. J, you up for a short ride one day? Monday I'll give it a shot, i'll be at Bike fac 4-5 pm.
Jason Chang
Bummer, I work Monday. I work weekends, but get out about 1:00-2:00pm. My next days off is this Thurs and Fri. Would be good for me to get some saddle time too. It's been about 3 or 4 months since I took the bike out.

Jeremy-This is my bike that I rode in Hawaii from 83-84. I built it up the same way I had it back then. The only original parts that I had back then is the Pro Class stem which is on there. The handle bars, California lite pads, 1 set of the Skyway brake pads I still have but didn't include it on the build. Back then I cut up the number plate to fit on the smaller handle bars, but didn't want to mess up this Haro number plate to do that. It still has the original chrome plating which is clean! Funny you should say as it was orignally candy blue back then. This was the bike I won highest bunny hop and almost beat Moki at the long distant jumping contest at the 2nd Great Outdoors FreeStyle Show/Contest. I think he beat me by a 1ft. it was real close. I racked up many miles on this goose! All those weekly Ala Moana,Magic Island, Sandy Beach, Sand Island, Pearl City runs. Also here in Calif. before I laid it to retirement in 86. Could never get rid of it.

Gotta take Marlo to that spot! He will be coming back to Calif. this Sat. Is that a step up jump?
Jeremy K.
Joe,

Its awesome that you still have that goose with all the history behind it! I can only dream of coming across one of my old bikes. I tried explaining to my wife how much of a bond us kids had with our bmx bikes. She just looks at me strange when I tell her that at that age my bike was like my best friend at times. I know sounds corney but whatever.

Coming close to beating a legend like Moki at anything bmx is a real feat. You should be proud!

Yeah, the RS jump is a step up jump. I came across it on Fri. I cased it the first try and went over the bars. The third try I totally overshot the landing. And sprained my ankle a little. But, I couldn't stay away and went up there today. I'm not sure why MTB guys like having logs and rocks and stuff sticking out of their landings. I guess with their suspension they can absorb alot of that stuff if they case it. Took me a few B_itch runs before I sacked up and went for it. But, I dig it now and it saves alot of travel time to HK.

bmx joe-- another cool ride! You got a great secret stash of old school bikes. A dangerous addiction, restoring old bmx bikes smile.gif
JK--Whoo hoo! crazy pic! Chickened out on riding today, but my guts feel like the night before sunday races.
Just need a brake cable/housing and lever, then the old bike will be street-worthy.
Jason Chang
You may be searching for a while for some true MX 1000's, so just throw on some cheapo brakes to get it on the road or dirt. When you find some brakes you can always trade them. So has BU been warming up the legs? Who else out there besides JK has been on it again?

This is what happens when you get carried away with the collecting & restoring! The bug bit me about 8 years ago, but the last 3 years I kind of slowed down on it and focus on the riding part.

What color brakes and brake cables you going with? I might be able to help with the cables.

Nice town run! I remember riding in the rain alot! Nice Skyway T/A! Wish I had one in my collection!
Awesome 24" Thruster Tri-Power! There were a few guys in Waipahu who ride the 20"Thrusters. Wish I had one of those to in my collection! I guess you can't have everything! biggrin.gif
Keep up the riding! Get an old school bike cruise/meet going! Bring back the Bmx scene in Hawaii!

Wow, I will feel out of place with my new bike. Well kinda new, it's a 2001 Nirve 20 inch. For cruiser it is a 06 Formula. I am to used to the new stuff, I think I would feel uncomfortable on a pre 2000 bike. But I do have a 1987 Goose that I always thought was my favorite, but have not had it built or ridden for about 15 years. Hoping to restore it soon, and I hope it rides like I remember it. I still got some old Tange Switchblade forks that I used on it BITD.

Hey, a bmx is a bmx. New or old. Don't blame you for feeling uneasy on an old school bike, when I rode yesterday, the skyway felt like it was made of tin foil, not flexy but light compared to the freestyle I got used to riding. But hey, at least no one can call my skyway a carpet queen. biggrin.gif

Not to blow your guys "vintage bmx" thread but since BMX and skateboarding were the original action sports,I thought some of you guys night enjoy what it has evolved to.

http://www.nitrocircus.com/videos.html

Watch the trailers and then tune into MTV to see the show.I don't know about you guys but I allways loved a good adrenaline rush. This on the other hand is EXTREME.Check the click of Pastrana jumping out of the plane with only a set of shorts and a Red Bull can/no parachute.

Klaus,

I'm still trying to find out about the chrome shop in the mainland.I know it's in San Diego but don't have the name yet.---I heard bad things about the shop down here.

Any of you Mililanians been riding lately?I haven't had time to touch the bike for awhile.
Jason Chang
That Nitro Circus looks nuts!!! Could be my favorite show soon.
Hey Rust, how was the ride? Sorry I missed it. My back was telling me to be mellow. My doc says I have the spine of a 60 year old. So I don't ride as much as I would like, but when I do I try to make the most of it. Since no matter how I ride I will pay for it the next few days. That's why I go jumping, gonna be stiff and painfull anyways so might as well get as rad as a 60 year old back can be. I will hook up with you guys soon. Maybe with a few Mililanians too.
