Hey BC,

Somewhere in there is the secret to anti gravity. The reason for all the big air time and getting so rad with a 30lb bike.

Aloha!
Sounds and looks like BMX is going strong again on da island! Chang, what's the deal with the track?
Anyways, heading out to build the ABA grands track in a few weeks, I think Mike Day may be coming to help with the Pro Section along with KB. The Grands track is going to be crazy, if any of you local boys think you got what it takes, come on out to Tulsa for Thanksgiving weekend!

Yo Ha Y N, how ya been? Sorry not rich enough or in shape enough for the big show. Someday though I'll give it a shot again. New 41 & over 20 inch class does make it much more appealing. I think I could do OK in Inter, ha ha. The scene is growing among the past 80's racers. When we get a track I see the older classes probably being bigger than the kids classes. Gonna be fun seeing how old skills adapt to new style track and clips. Bunny hop clipped in is tons easier. Falling down hurts a ton more. I am sure I am not the only one keeping a close eye on the older classes to see where the speed and skill level is at. I will be watching the grands on the net. Send us some advance pics and news of the grands, are you racing it this time? Don't drink from dirty cups or kiss strangers this time.

HAWAII KAI TRACK
.......so word on the street is the BMX guys are going to build up the jumps into doubles. I know the regulars would love that but I don't think the state is down. anyway just thought I would pass the info on to be discussed...
This was brought up on DHhawaii. There are a handfull of guys who have gone thru great lenghts to obtain the HK track with the neighborhood board. I know everyone has their idea of what they want there. But, please don't come there and dig stuff up. Someone came and dug up one of the middle jumps and left it. Word is it was some of the BMXers. Thats pretty _ucked up. I love that jump and I know the guys put alot of time and energy into building and maintaining that stuff.
The agreement with the State is that whatever is built there has to be rollable by the kids too. So everything is built under that premise. If you want to change stuff please discuss it with Lawrence first. We wouldnt even be riding there if it wasn't for his time and effort. So please show some RESPECT and common sense. He is more than approachable and open to ideas.

Where in the world do you keep finding all this cool stuff? I don't even remember seeing any JMC's at the track racing. Looks like it has a Euro BB too.
Too bad what happend to HK, I wonder what happend, or who. I like all the jumps, maybe could be a little longer as we seem to be on the edge of over jumping them. Not in to do or die style jumps either, so I like them all rollable too. Maybe we can get Lawrence on here to make sure we all know the do's and dont's. At most when I am there I will sweep to fill in ruts and water it. Not too many places to ride so lets keep it all cool.

For sure I would be up for a group attack on the mainlanders. Just like the old days when TGO, The Bike shop and a bunch of other racers would hit a big race. I always heard the stories of the old NBA grands(Long Beach), or Knotts Berry farm. As a racer I only did one trip to the mainland with a group of Hawaiians, that was back in 82 for the Jag world champs in Vegas. About 10 racers went, of the older guys it was Sano, Lau, Horikawa and quite a few racers about 12 and under. I think Eric Higa made his main in 6 & under. Shane Sakuoka won his 7 Novice main and brought home a 7 foot trophy. Us older guys never did to well. It was the first time on a electronic starting gate. Imagine the fun/trouble we could get in to now. Gonna have to bust out the 20 inch so I can race Inter. I know I would get whooped in cruiser.

Next to Derek is Darren Higuchi on a Quadangle, back then a part time Hawaiian, now lives here and is a Hot Tub specialist. Darren was over 6 foot tall at 13 years old. Was also a neigbor to Toby Henderson, so we always got to see some trick stuff on his bike. Darren was the one who brought roll backs to Hawaii, being able to roll up a hill stop and come back backwards.

That was one of my favorite jumps. In practice we were rolling it and just getting up a rythym on it, the fastest I went on it in practice was about 5/8 speed. Then in my first moto, Malvert holshotted, but I had the inside line. We were going at it full blast, and about 15 feet from it we both looked at each other, but we both weren't gonna back down. Well we hit the first lip and just flew over the whole thing about head high and about 25ft. I think I won the moto but he won the race, but I didn't care, because that was the first race that it was actually faster to fly a jump as high and as far as you could. Jason, you had the Beta of that race, because your father played it at an HBMX meeting. Bryan, thanks for the pictures man! Rory

On the gate you have 6 of the fastest people back in the day.
The current #1 and three former #1 plate holders. Also Malvert and Buddy
Holding the gate for these guys was hard. Notice the big indention in the ground from the gate being dropped.
#1 the Rock
#5 Moki Fernandez
#21 Rory Ingano
#11 Buddy Ikeda
#6 John Llacuna
#7 Malvert benigno

Speaking of JT! Look what he has been up to!!!! He went up to the SEMA/AAPEX shows and drags in Vegas. Even went next door to the Richard Petty Driving School and did a Ride Along just before the SUN drag finals.

For a Leary, you must kick out to your back foot. With my pedals level I have my right foot back, so I kick to the right. Otherwise your knees and legs get tangled up and you can't get it clicked all the way. Basicaly a big kick out and turn your body like you are trying to look at your back tire. This sounds funny but to learn the body positioning I would lay on the ground on my back and have my bike over me, then twist into the position. It is much harder on a cruiser, cause of the lower bars, it gives less room for your knees. And 20 inch kicks out easier.
