How about the old (there I go again) crew that used to ride for "The Great Outdoors"? Where are they now.

John
Moki
Gabriel
Kevin

I got to tag along with them as the token howlie.....

Kenny

This is what I can gather from previous posts. John works at Aiea Cue at night. Moki has a myspace page. I think it's under flyinhawaiian52. From what Rory mentioned Gabe drives for Roberts Hawaii. I talked to Kevin Sano when I ran into him. He is a graphic artist at Crazy shirts. He said he still has a GHP 24.

Moki is riding again. But, I havent had the honor of running into him yet. But, Changstar posted a killer shot of Moki Pancaking. Would be great to get the boys together again.

Hopefully like Changstar posted we can get some sort of HBMX reunion going. JT mentioned that he will be glad to provide the vintage HBMX DVD's if we can get a projector. JT also suggested that maybe we can get one of the Mililani rec centers as the venue?

jk
Jason Chang
Think we can pull in enough people to fill the rec center??? I hope so, that would be very cool. I know prices and the amount of people the rec can hold is in the local Mililani mag that they send out every month, I'll try to find mine.

Changstar

I wish I could go! Oh to be back in the islands.....

Aren't there some rec centers that are smaller than the huge one up Mauka?
Jeremy K.
I was thinking about this today. Anyone had a special talent they had BITD? Like you could bunnyhop really high or like Perfectnut you could tabletop off anything. Or maybe you were a holeshot specialist like Rockne? Or you were super smooooove like Rory?

I had a huge talent or knack I should say for getting flats. It's like the darn plague I tell you. I used to flat so much BITD that Jim T even bought me a patch kit one year for Christmas. Funny thing is thats probably the best present I got as a kid. Well its the only present I really remember from childhood anyways. I even had a slow leak at the Mongoose Grand Nationals in Long Beach. I swear this talent is still with me. Since I started riding again I flatted no less than 12 times. WTF? I finally got smart and I carry a pump, spare tube and tools in my hydrapack. I don't know how I survived as a kid with the distances we traveled. I must have walked alot.

I even laughed at Klaus when he flated at HK.........sorrry Klaus.......But, it was the first time ever that someone else around me got a flat. It's usually me.

So whats your talent guys? I know, I know, Rockne........you never did get a flat.......ASSSSSSS!

jk
Sugi
Jeremy,My son might be able to keep up with you with the flats.I don't know how he does it.I've used 1 1/2 patch kits just on his bike alone so far.Amazing!!

Mililani Rec Centers aren't that cheap.Rec 1 has two smaller rooms upstairs but I'm not sure if those are for rent.Rec 3 has a room and it is much smaller then rec 5(Mauka).The thing with the rec centers,I'm pretty sure you also need to hire a police officer as part of the agreement.

So what about the ride?
kaneohe808
Jeremy,

Doesn't Sano also work at Jelly's by Cutter Ford in Aiea. I ran into him a while backat Jelly's.

As for the Mililani Rec Center you need a spcial duty police officer there when your function is going on.

Maybe some one has a connection with a business that has a room on the side for meetings you can use for a few hours. Maybe the theaters in Mililani ? Don't know how much it would cost though. I know Temple Valley Theaters rent out a theater for parties.
Jason Chang
Mililani Theaters has rooms upstairs for partys. Don't know how much. Imangine if we can also get them to show "Joe Kid" on the big screen. Or better yet the new movie about mighty Stu Thomsen.

Now that would be BADD! Anyone got connections? I know that Russel's friend Tim has MTB movie showings/parties at one of those new art galleries downtown. Maybe we can get Russell to talk to him and get some info? May be a great venue to show JT's video's and have a party.....can probably get the bike shops involved with that too. They are doing that with the MTB scene here already. Maybe Klaus can talk to Duane?

BC,

I'm not sure if Sano worked at Jelly's. I think someone else mentioned that too on a previous post.

jk
kaneohe808
Jeremy,

That was me that posted before that Sano worked at Jelly's. I went in there about 1 month ago and asked a worker if he still worked there and the worker said he was off at a comic convention. He would be back the following week. So I guess if you ever have to track him down you can look for him at Jelly's Aiea.

bmx joe,

I'll try and get some pics of the Kalaheo jumps when I go back out there. Or you can check out dhhawaii.com too. There's some pics and video's there. I seen Walter ride in the parking lot of The Bike Shop. I was amazed at what he could do. I wasn't fortunate enough to see any of the TGO contests. You are definately lucky to have so many riding places close to home. It's frustrating right now to drive from Mililani to Hawaii Kai to ride. The cost of gas just kills you. So the closer skate parks is definately where I'll spend some riding time. Buddy is a very cool guy. Hopefully he will come out more after things get a little easier with the new family addition.

Hey All,

Checking out the ABA Nationals in Roseville was a pretty neat thing to do. BMX has come a long way. Gates are automated. Tracks are fast. Riders are very fast and graceful. And it seems like there is a standard track layout, as I've seen videos of other ABA events and the track was the same. It was also good meeting Joe and Marlo.

So JK, if there is a reunion in Hawaii next year, I will make every effort to attend. It would be good to see all the people again, from riders to the parents and the bike shop owners and managers.

B.
Jeremy K.
B,

We are definately looking into getting a reunion going. And we will do our best to schedule it when you can come down. Would be nice to see everyone again most definately!

BC,

Spoke to RHirata a few evenings ago. He ran into Sano at Jellies.

JT and BU,

Thanks for coming out this evening. Was good to see BU ride the track. I hope you pick up that 20. When I finish my build I'm going to start riding 20 again. Be nice to have some riding buddies. Was hoping Changstar and Sugi would show up this evening. But, no luck. Nonetheless the HK track was pretty packed with riders. So that was fun. JT I hope you got some decent pics. I had the hardest time jumping with those things. I was worried I would break them. I don't mind breaking my own stuff. But, I would hate to break anyone elses stuff. I didn't even want to ask how much they costed. Pretty incredibly trick stuff I must say.

jk
Jason Chang
Sorry got out of work too late to make it. Will be on vacation starting next Sat so a few trips out to ride is in the plans. You said BU was out, would that be Barry Uyeno?

Good to see you back Buddy I. Tell us more about the national, must have been a trip after all those years.

Anybody interested in doing gates? I have a friend thats has a 2 man electronic gate with timers. The timers lay on the ground and starts when the gate is released and stops when you run over a strip that you put out where ever you want. Maybe we can duel for holeshot and best time run.

As for the reunion, I say we need to hear from the out of towners so we can plan around them. Who else out there would like to come? Let us know. Maybe we can start a roll call thread to get the word out and see who might be interested. I may even get a few special guest to come over, a few old timers have been telling me that they want to vacation here.

Changstar,

Barry was there. He mentioned that he wants to pick up a 20. I'm hoping more guys want to ride 20. My heart is always with riding 20. I'm down for doing gates. Whatever it is I am down. If it gets us riding I am all for it. JT mentioned the same thing about finding out how many people would be interested in a reunion. JT suggested the following feeler:

After seeing the great success of the Team Eki and the Team Safari reunions, how many of you would be interested in attending an HBMX reunion? This is open to anyone who participated in an HBMX race. Family and friends invited too.

Would you attend if the cost per person including pupus and soft drinks was:

$15
$20
$30

Please e-mail responses to: lughead55@yahoo.com

The above email is mine. Or you can contact Changstar or myself thru Vintage.

On a side note. I am going to be at HK tomorrow morning maybe 10ish. i couldn't find my mojo today......so I am going back tomorrow to feel better about myself........ laugh.gif Anyone wanna ride? Changstar when youre on vacation lets set something up.

Sorry JK,I had other things to do in the morning then my son wanted to practice some baseball in the evening.

I'm down for a reunion. It would just depend on whether my schedule will be free.I allways seem to have more things to do than I have time to do them.

Cool, when Barry starts ridng again I'm sure some of the other town guys will follow.
Jason Chang
drinks.gif I think we here should throw out names on a list too. Instead of waiting to see who responds. Funny how when a name comes up, word gets out and they most times will check it out. A thread dedicated to the reunion I think would be very helpfull, it has worked well for the BMX Action legends reunion as well as many other old school gatherings. I try to get it up, and start with JT's poll.

Jeremy- Thanks for posting up pics! Marlo and his son amazes me on how well they progressed riding in only 4 months! Its great to have riding friends expecially if your around the same age. Dirt jumps around here tend to get messed up and you end up fixing things more then riding, thats why I mostly stay with skatepark riding. I like to ride period! does not matter what it is, its all about finding something positive about it and have fun! Keep watching those skatepark dvds and find some awesome lines! In time you'll start to make up your own! biggrin.gif

Thanks guys!

I went out there again this morning. I think I invented a new trick but I am not sure what to call it. Its a nose dive, both feet off the pedals, and drag your nutsac on the rear tire. Then land like that! Lets just say that was the warning sign that it was time to go home. By the way Rockne where were you.

I have those days when I hold myself back from doing stuff. I don't push myself hard to ride, always tomorrow to try again if you know what I mean.

I guess you call that a deck trick, when you set you front peg on the coping and your back tire is on the deck of a quarter, ledge, rail, etc. Then there is feeble, that is your front tire on the deck and your back peg on the coping which is the oppisite of a smith. Then there is the double peg, which is both pegs on the coping. These are the 3 basic peg tricks and they can be either stalled on a deck with coping of a quarter or other things, or be grinded while moving forward or backwards on coping etc... Start watching some of those dvds of today and you'll see more advanced stuff that will blow your mind!

Jason,

Not sure with the costs of plane fairs now days being so high. He works for the Dept. of Defense in Washington. When things get put together on a date, time, and location . I'll ask if he wants to attend. He has to convince his real BOSS(wife) if he can spend the money to come home. As for stuff on display . I don't have much . We don't have any gear left gave it all back to the shop. Darrins bike is in poor shape . I could probably get in touch with Steve the owner of HIC and put together a display or bring some stuff to display.

Jason,
Maybe each shop can put together a display with there former riders
Jason Chang
Oh, didn't realize he was that far away. I would say displaying Darrin's bike would be awesome. Doesn't have to look brand new, just cleaned up a little. For sure get with Steve, maybe he has pics or some kind of memorabilia. Each shop having a small display would be killer.

ZAP,

Here's how you can post old pics.

1. Scan the pic.

2. You need to download the scanned pic to a image hosting website. I use photobucket. You can open
a free account at photobucket.com

3. Now that you have your pic downloaded to photobucket you will see under the pic the following:

Email & IM
Direct Link
HTML Code
IMG Code

Double click on the one that says Direct Link. A yellow pop up will appear that says copied.

4. Now go to vintage and post like you normally do. In the little tool bar for your post there are a bunch
icons. Go to the one that says "insert image" when you drag your mouse over it. It's one of the green
ones. Click on that.

5. An Explorer User Prompt will pop up on the top left of your screen. Right click on the white area where
it says http:// and then hit paste. It will enter the link for your image. Then hit OK.

6. You should be good to go. You can hit preview post to see if it works first.

Hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing your pics!

Notice I said old school, not old guys, ha ha. I am only slightly younger than you so I feel it too when people say old. But hey if you are 20 years old but into stuff like a 1979 team Mongoose, Dura Ace cranks, anything Ashtabula, then you have an old school attitude and thats cool. Then there are those over 40 years old and are into the newest Magnatanium monocoque tripple buted thinga ma jig then you are new school. Not so much is it actual age but more what you are into.
