Kev,
I can't even imagine how much that jersey would go for on EBay. That is a thing of beauty. I ran Tuffs for a while too. I had a blue set and Rockne had a Yellow set. We had really harsh landings at Triangles and our Araya 7B's took a punishment. Rockne's 7b's were so beaten up that his bike would hop up and down at speed. There was even a crack at the welded seam.
I remember Alex Adams always running Tuff Wheels. But I couldnt pull them around a track like Alex could. Felt too heavy to me. Not as bad as Motomags though like the one's Darrin is using in the last shot though. Cool shot by the way BC.
Be cool to slap a goose together with Motomags and get some jumping pics at HK.
Here's one of the EKI pics. I'm not sure who the riders are. Maybe Rory can help.

I think 3H was Karl Moose from the Big Island. His uncle was Duke, the guy with one arm, whose son used to race at Campbell too.

Hey Sug, just gotta find a day we can all go out kinda early, so we can get the most done. Last few rides only had maybe 2 or 3 people so I think if we had a few more we could do more building. At least 4 people so that we could break up into two groups of two, of course more would be better. 6 or 8 people could get a lot done if we each built one jump. That's a start to a rhythm section right there.

I remember those old Honda jerseys.I had one of those. We used to have a Honda CR125 . Got the jersey from the old Sandy Brodies motorcycle shop that was in Kaneohe. It is now DJ Motorsports.

Wow I haven't seen that book in years.

Aug 7 2008, 02:56 AM
Do you have the actual book or did Jim just send you an e mail of the cover? I always wondered what the exact rule was to tuning expert was. Klaus turned X by winning 3 in a row and I did it by winning 5 not in a row. Big news, maybe. I got a call from a construction company owner that wants to start a track. He said he has the heavy equipment and has talked to people that have land. The area is in Kailua somewhere near the old drive inn. I answered as much as I could and had him contact the ABA. This could be a great thing soon as he already has the two hardest things already taken care of, land and covering cost of heavy equipment. Lets hope he has better luck than I have had with the state. If Jamaica can have a Bobsled team Hawaii surely should have a BMX track.

Jason,
I remember the rules to be something like that. Were you win x amount of races they pushed you into the expert class. Then when you changed age like from 13 to 14 . You would race novice and start over again until you had enough wins to go to expert class again. If you raced like 13X and there was not enough people to make a class .You would race in the 14 Novice class. There was also a minumum to run a class. I think it was like 3 or 5 riders needed to make a class.
Jeremy K.
Aug 7 2008, 10:01 AM
Changstar,
That is HUGE news. I hope it works out. Was the guy involved in BMX before? Any more info on that?
I am sure Jim has the whole rule book. From what I remember they could push you to expert after 3 wins or at their disgretion. When we were 14 a big amount of us were pushed to X at one time. We ended up having two full gates which was awesome. Like BC said when you moved age groups you could go back down to novice again. But, you could go X anytime you wanted after. When I would switch age groups I always raced Novice for one race then switched back to X. I remember BC and I were in 16 over novice one race.
BC keep the pics coming man! Jason, I can scan your pics for you. Lets make this thread blowup!

Yeah, the guy I talked to said his name was Ari, or sounds like that, don't know the spelling. He said he raced a long time ago, then more recently has been doing MTB. Maybe somebody here knows him. One thing he did say was they were worried that kids would ride on that road and it is dangerous with all the big semi trucks on it. So a ruled might be that you must get there in a car or something, no riding your bike to the track.
I'll keep you all posted, I want to race as much as you guys do.

Ok so now who is the starter of the pants tucked into your socks racing uniform?
Jeremy,
Found an interesting rule.
12. INSPECTION
b. Required Apparel
iv. Long-legged pants must cover the entire leg. Right pant leg must be
tied, clipped, taped or tucked into the sock to prevent it from getting
into the chain.
Just another reference to pants tucked into socks.QUOTE (Jason Chang @ Aug 6 2008, 10:56 PM)

Do you have the actual book or did Jim just send you an e mail of the cover? I always wondered what the exact rule was to tuning expert was.
Jason posted a question regarding the rule book. Yes, I do have the
actual rulebook. Regarding advancement to expert,
Para 5. Advancement
b. To advance from Novice to Expert a rider needs three first place wins,
not necessarily consecutive, 300 points, and/or at the discretion of the
HBMX Committee.
Hope that answers his questions.

I remember the name Jump Track, for sure. Looks like the Ashtabula forks and stem. The motomags are truely retro. My younger sister had a chrome Mongoose with the silver motomags and coaster brakes on it. She has the clear grips that entombed the black box-square handlebars and small black Ashtabula neck.
I believe her Goose also featured the one-piece cranks and I am almost certain they were black in color.

Be sure to tell the boys about this site, especially Jeff Kang. He would be completely blown away by some of the old pics I raised from the dead of him jumping at Cannons Club. That guy would try any kind of mental-looking tabletop no matter the consequences!
He was so funny, we would ride and he'd say "Paiea, you're my idol!". Puhleeze. One time we were riding from the bike shop on King St near the McCully Bike and Library, he bunny-hopped the wall by the front door and launched off the other side of the wall over the sidewalk into the side street. That was very rad, I thought "whoa, this guy's skills has exploded into the stratosphere".. He also did the 100 plus mile Century Ride with us and finished over an hour ahead of the rest, including me. He was a rad BMXer, mos def.

Jason, I think I had about 3 Robinsons. Frames were stock since he only sold racing frames. When I got a new one, I would give the old one back. Nothing fancy, all things off the shelf. I think the fanciest things I had was on my white one, Dura Ace cranks, Reedy pedals, blue powder coated spokes, and I think I had Dura Ace track hubs on that bike too. My chrome one after that one was with the same parts only with the smaller sprockets, 34/12 or something like that, Ed's idea which worked pretty good. Third bike, chrome, and with chromoly cranks, with cassette hubs. But my tires remained the same, Carlisle Aggressor front, and Cheng Shin rear, blackwalls all the way!

Jason,
If you are talking about the 20 inch bikes. I was big but the bike felt alright. I was able to jump but I had to use steel cranks. I raced several times with the dura ace cranks but they flexed to much. When Red Line came out with there version. I think Garrick Isaka had a set and I tried riding with it.I didn't like them. As for the cruiser we had at the shop. It was set up nice. We were able to jump and ride the bike just like it was a 20 inch. One of the guys in Kaneohe even bought that 24 inch Mongoose? they built for that factory racer. Bike felt awkward. I think the only guy that rode there bike with the bars forward was Garrick Isaka . He had his bars forward so his knees wouldn't hit.

Here's the wifeys dog "SCOUT". It's her way of apologizing after chewing on my Troy Lee Designs helmet on the way to the track.

jk hey JK YOU LOOK COMFORTABLE ON THE CRUISER. YOUR JUMPING LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE BACK IN THE GAME! ISN'T THAT BADD AWESOME!!

I'm pretty jazzed on how the bike rides. I don't want to say it but..........It's hard to ride the Team Jag after riding this thing. It's alot more comfortable and isn't squirrely like the Jag. The Badd forks freak me out though. The clearance is so tight with the current front tire. Theres 1/8 inch clearance at the top with the 1.85 Max Daddy tire on it now. When the front knobbies pick up pebbles it hits the fork and you can hear the "pink" noise when the pepple hits the fork. I'd hate to have a large pebble stick in the knobbs and toss me over somehow. Problem is I really love the front tire. Feels great at the HK track. There was a 1.85 Max Daddy on the rear to but I just changed that to a 1.75 Holy Roller.
Changstar here's a pic of when I got it:

Killer looking bike.Badd won a magazine shoot out awhile back, so I know the geometry is spot on. But they stoped making them.So is this one of the old ones or the new 08 version. I did hear they were starting back up again. Didn't know they were out already. You know who else has an original Badd? None other than Russel. Russel has a few 03 ish bikes from when he raced at Wheeler. All of them top notch with the best parts, But I think he stopped short of adding clips. So how many of you would consider clipping in?

Glad you guys like the bike. Kinda looks like a minigoose to me. Wouldn't it look good in Transluscent candy blue over nickle with Minigoose decals?
Planning on clipping in in about 2 months. Let the crashing begin!
